Honestly FFXII >>>>>> FFX.
At least they made TWEWY.
Seabas989
Agreed, i love the battle system in FFXII. FFX felt like a linear corridor rpg:?
Square´s best games this gen is those non-jrpg´s, they have published some great games:)
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I give them credit for publishing great games like Deus Ex HR, Just Cause 2 and Sleeping Dogs...
But most of the games they've actually developed this gen have been terrible. I think it's because they (like many Japanese developers) are too stuck in their old ways.
The fact you consider Chrono Cross and FFX good games just screws your opinion to the ground. FF fans keep choosing X as the downhill point when ten was horrible on every level.Square...they used to make great games like Chrono Trigger/Cross, FF4....FF7/8/9, FFX.....such amazing master pieces. But what happened to them? I noticed after FFX (their last good FF) it started to go downhill, especially with that trash MMO (whih MMO isn't? ). And their character designs have gone off the wall, it happened in FF12, seriously who wanted to play as a cross dresser?
Square is not the giant they used to be, even the hardcore FF fans today have to admit it. I don't know what happened, but Square needs to go back to it's roots, those games were perfect, so use that kind of formula. Whatever it is Square is trying to do today, it isn't working. FF13 is honestly one of the worst games I played this gen. I tried so hard to like it, but I could not. A game should not have to do that, it should not feel like work.
Only FF game I'm looking forward to is FFX HD for PS3, I am not looking forward to any of their new FF games. So why does Square suck now? What happened?

[QUOTE="deu5ka175"][QUOTE="gameofthering"] There is also a large performance difference.Honestly. Why do Hermits think graphics or 60 fps instead of 30 is gonna make the game more fun? I have Metro 2033 on PC and the 360. If I go from one to the other it takes all of 3 minutes before I cannot tell the difference between the two (unless I am outside. The 360 has some rough textures on the outside portion of the game which is about 5% of the gameplay). And my PC is a pretty good machine. Depends on the game, if it's left 4 dead 2, battlefield 3, CS, Skyrim, etc yes 60 fps makes it better but if it's LA Noire, Alan Wake, and other more cinematic games it's actually worse imo.parkurtommo
I love the folks saying oh hey just cause 2, sleeping dogs, and deus ex....something the square side of the company had absolutely nothing to do with. and the hermits....LOL f***ing morons.WilliamRLBaker
That's what I was thinking. They're just a publisher of those games. No idea why people in this thread brought them up.
It's a damn good thing they bought Eidos. It's probably the only reason they continue to be relevant. And picking up Sleeping Dogs was an inspired choice. As for the games they develop internally? The team that was responsible for a majority of the best received FF games (IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, etc) is no longer there (they're at Mistwalker now), the Xenogears team works for Nintendo, etc. This is what happens when your talent leaves.
They care about making good pc ports, and they publish good games bro.

They published those, they did not make them.
Plus PC is all about ports anyway.
They did make them..... anyway square is doing fine. Deus Ex, those two I quoted, hitman, tomb raider.. yeah looks ok to me.

Not only that but they told the devs to go all out with the PC version and gave them a lot of support for that game. They seem to understand and see potential in things. They did a great job helping out with sleeping dogs

You have to be independent to be a second party developer.

Great publishers, strong handheld support, shat all over the FF name.
Gxgear
cant agree with you on that.
[QUOTE="parkurtommo"][QUOTE="SKaREO"]Console ports = TrashMaybe they'll make another PC game and then I can respect them again.SKaREO
Have some bacon.
Shadow is a complete baboon but he is right. Hermits really do over exaggerate how good the games look unless you are really willing to invest. And when it comes to console exclusives or PC exclusives it is mainly a matter of taste. Go ahead and send a smartass comment my way now for telling the truth.........[QUOTE="deu5ka175"][QUOTE="SNIPER4321"] Here we go again. even if port but still PC always got superior multiplat. deal with itShadowMoses900
Yes exactly. I am not saying they don't look better, they tend to have better draw distances and a bit better lighting and whatnot, but they don't look THAT much better. Certainly not to the level where hermits say the console versions look like crap. It's not a night and day difference like Hermits say it is, not worth the money at all.
Only if you use graphic mods then there is a big difference.
But they look far better comparing a PC game to console when compared to what you will say looks better on 360 vs ps3... in fact there can be a massive difference once you hit 60fps 1920x1200 + aa + af + tons of other **** Its small things here that add up to a game with much much more detail.[QUOTE="Gxgear"]

XIII polarizing the fanbase, XIV, vXIII nowhere in sight. I've given them credit on the handheld front, but those games will be long forgotten as years go by.

[QUOTE="dracolich55"]They don;t make good games IMO, but they publish good games... like Deus Ex: Human Revolution.GD1551
Square Enix made Deus Ex... so I'm not sure what you are saying.
Um, no? Ion Storm created Deus ex and Invisible War, while Eidos Interactive published it. Eidos Montreal created Deus Ex Human Revolution while Square Enix published it.They only failed with the Final Fantasy franchise and that isn't really a fail... FF XIII it's still a good game, just not as good as its predecessors.Ricardomz
FF13 is horrible!!! jesus christ.. Final Fantasy was a Open world adventure RPG for christ sake... FF13 only has the Name to get sales with out that title the game would have been a market Failure.. the game was trash nothing of it represented a Final Fantasy game.

And Nintendo owns Retro, but we still make the differentiation of a Retro developed game.
I know TC is a dipsh*t, but I think most everyone in this topic knows what hes getting at. Hes talking about Square, the type of games they are famous for and how they are at an all time low this gen.
The core SE that we know is not on top of their game. They used to crank out gold on a regular basis and now they take years and years to hand out an average game.
Sure they're a good publisher and sure they've acquired some talent under their umbrella, but obviously TC is talking about Square as a developer and how they've handled their flagship IPs in recent years.
