Why is the 360 so popular in America?

When compared to the PS3? I mean last gen the PS2 was the best machine to own to play games, now times have changed and it seems the 360 is the console to own if you want to play the best games. In highschool the PS2 was king and now in college the 360 is king for gamers.

(I know the Wii is winning, but I'm talking about the high-def consoles)

It's very popular in the UK, as well. Exactly the same situation; last gen PS2 was the household name for games consoles. Now it's 360.

I think Sony's high price tag and complicated system killed much of their casual appeal this time around.

It came out a year earlier, was able to break into the market and grab a few good exclusives. But now MS is screwed because they have yet to make a true next gen console which is probably in the works as we speak.SolidGame_basic

That's funny, because from what I could see, for the first several months of life, the PS3 was little more than a Resistence delivery device. If it was only known by the hardcore pre-launch, it became known by all owners soon enough through sheer necessity.

well here in the Middle East the PS3 is the dominate console it is so popular because of the PS2

very very few people buy the Xbox 360

and most of them don't know that the Wii even exist

you do realize how fundamentaly wrong and bitter you are right? Just because the PS3 has yet to surpass the 360 in terms of graphical power doesn't mean you get to make outlandish statements. You could write it like this,

"well, the ps3 promised to have all these tech advantages over the 360, like the cell's graphics and "home" but it really has been a letdown of monumental proportioins and Americans would rather pay one hundred dollars less for their console that has a much better online, and games"

There now I infused some reality for you. I like the ps3 but to call the 360 a "last gen" console is rediculous.
