Is that big light on the controller distracting?

@Mr-Kutaragi:
I prefer replaceable rechargeable batteries to built in but also think MS should include them.
How is the usb cable lenght compared to the DS3 one? As long as its big I wont have a prob with that. The smal length of the DS3 usb cable was anoying as I couldnt lay down on my bed with it while charging... :(
If gaming for 7-9 hours without having to recharge is short, then people have some real issues. Buy extra controllers that charge while you're playing or take a frickin break for an hour.
Yeh, thats much more convenient than an extra pair of charged 2400 mAh eneloops that lasts 3 times longer and doesn't drain for years when not in use .
That awesome build in tech .
LOL at the lemmings defending ancient previous gen tech.
Fixed I've never had much problem with my DS 3 going dead on me why Lemmings think AA batteries are superior............
As someone that has experience with the DS3 and wireless 360 controller, batteries are superior when it comes to gaming controllers
why does xbox controller still uses batteries?
because M$ are always behind the curve when it comes to tech. That's why Xbox has always been so redundant.
behind the curve on technology?
integrated hard drive
PC video card
integrated broadband
5.0 GHz wireless
Rumble triggers
Kinect
XBL
300k servers
integrated tv
windows media streaming
all things that MS was way ahead of the tech curve on

Valid point.
I get about 8 hours of heavy-duty BF4 gaming in before I need to plug the cable in.
Is that bad? I honestly don't know. I never really compared to my 360 controller, which was wired anyway.
I don't care though. I love that DS4 controller.
Hell, my iPhone doesn't last that long if I'm not connected to a WIFI hotspot.
Some people here cannot take any criticism towards the PS4.. hella butthurt.
But yeah, I do like the DS4.. the battery is just terrible compared to last gen.. and when i have my PX4 plugged in and needing to charge.. the 2 USB ports at the front of the PS4 are not enough, especially when I need to charge the headset and controller with the sorround sound thingie already plugged in.
Anyways, it's not a major issue, I just hope they release better controllers down the road.

I bought the charging station. It's nice and always have a controller charged. I dont think we'll get much more than 11 hours in the future.

Really because as someone that has experience with the DS3 and wireless 360 controller I have the exact opposite experience. So no they're not, that's like saying the old MP 3 players that used AAA batteries were superior. They're only superior if you're too stupid to remember to connect them for a recharge.

ahahahah just making up stuff to list LOL. ALso add "first console with changing faceplate". The innovation LOL!! Sad that have add pc card and broadband as innovation. And kinect haha now MS was first to have camera gaming, lemming gone mad. Yea, nobody ever use servers before MS... Rumble trigger is gimmick not innovation.
Sorry cannot stop laughing.

Please define the difference between a "gimmick" and "innovation".
That list wasn't "made up". They are facts.
Making a console more similar to a PC is exactly the thing that the developers are PRAISING with this generation as it will make development so much simpler. So actually using "pc cards" is a huge benefit to modern consoles...
Mine lasts for probably around 15 hours.
I used it 3 days straight before I had to recharge it.
EDIT: It was dead when I had to recharged it
Is that big light on the controller distracting?
Not at all, although I'm sure it takes up some battery juice along with the build in speaker, rumble, and perhaps the touch pad.
The DS4 charges fast though, and you can even use a cell phone charger lol.
why does xbox controller still uses batteries?
It still uses batteries because despite popular system wars belief, they are superior to USB charging when it comes to gaming controllers. You DON'T need to buy the official Microsoft play and charge kit as I have a rechargeable battery stand and 2 pairs of rechargeable batteries since 2005 and they still work for up to 15 hours each. If I have one pair charged I can take the back off my controller and replace them in 2 seconds once every 15 hours. How exactly is that a bad thing?
This doesn't make sense, are you gonna give them to him?

The PS3 controllers did about the same. It's just people being stupid.
So why didn't MS include rechargeables again? People say it uses AA batteries, so you can have options. But why not include at least one battery for the controller. The PS4 is fine as long as you recharge the controller over night, leave the PS4 in standby mode, otherwise it wont recharge the controller.
or do what i did and get a cheap USB extension cable

19 =/= 6-7.
It might just be your's. Li-ion's are a lottery, especially if the supplier cheaps out on parts.
Xbox 360 Play and Charge kits when they first came out either lasted a good couple years (like mine) or a couple days then died completely.
It seems to me that my DS4 charge doesn't last as long as my DS3.... its a non issue for me though, since the PS4 sits on a desk only 2 feet from where I sit. I haven't tried playing constantly from full charge to measure the time... I usually game in spurts... an hour or 2...then have to do something.... come back for another hour or so, and then something else comes up.
because sony is so depraved that they have no problem using cheap and radioactive materials for the ps4.
because sony wanted put entire lightbulb on the controller.
While MS just put 2 little red dots on there's... Does the same thing lol
It uses LEDs which consume next to no power at all. You could power the LEDs (when alone) in the back of the Dualshock for probably 4 days straight before losing power.
It's the rest of the controller that takes the charge, and they probably have too many resistors in there wasting power as well which won't help
did you know you can get leds so powerful you can cultivate plants indoors?
but yeah you can also get them with really low power. they are an amazing technology.
and yeah, a few people have said it and you say it yourself - no changes to battery chemistry yet an increase in controller demand for power.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DualShock#DualShock_3
Dual shock 3, 300-500mah; DS4, 800mah.
but despite the bigger capacity it has to power more things.
the main problem is slow advances in battery chemistry. apart from including 'more' li ion, how you can increase the battery capacity? also, the controller can't weigh too much, li ion cells cost money, 'more' li ion cells take up more volume.
to really get a better battery in either console, someone has to invent a new type of voltoionic cell with a better milliamp per hour storage density than the lithium ion, not only that - but cost effective and just as easy to implement.
this is why ps4 uses ps3's last gen tech of li ion, and xb1 offers 360's last gen tech, except the play and charge kit is not NiMH any more, it's Li ion. unfortunately batteries are not affected by moore's law.
anyway. maybe thats interesting for some people, and being a hard out 3d modeler i thought some inorganic chemistry might change things up a bit.

How so? It cost me £5 to buy the stand + batteries and you don't have to worry about a short USB lead. If you want to game using a wireless controller then batteries are better. What is the point of plugging in a USB lead when you can just use a wired controller and not have to worry about charging it?
Compared to the DS3 that would last ages, the DS4 is terrible.. the battery lasts 5/6 hours max and needs to be constantly charging or charged.
at this point, i'd take replaceable batteries that could last ages, my Xbox 360 when using normal batteries would last a good 15-20 hours
How long does the X1 controller battery last? because right now the PS4 is great but the controller is awful.
So after the xbox one batteries dies in 20 hours what do you do.?
1-Go into a treasure hunt for double A batteries on your home, stripping any TV,DVD or Blu-ray on your way to continue that online section your were having.
2-Go outside side walk into any store and buy 1 pair.
3-Buy a play and charge kit which is $20 on.
4-Complain to god that why in hell MS still not put rechargeable batteries on the controller like sony, because even at 6 hours per charge at least you can still connect the cable and keep playing while you charge it.
Yeh, thats much more convenient than an extra pair of charged 2400 mAh eneloops that lasts 3 times longer and doesn't drain for years when not in use .

That funny i bough more than 3 pairs of rechargeable batteries for my 360 controller since i got mine, these are not the cheap ones that come with play and charge kit or any other sold cheap, yet my DS3 launch controller still has its build in battery working.
Dude complaining about battery life is stupid, just plug the damn cable and keep playing while charging, you don't have to stop playing to charge your PS4 controller just like in the PS3 case.
it has a lot of stuff, light, speaker, rumble... as an online gamer i gotta turn rumble off so i get much more battery time.
Gotta turn rumble off? Damn thats half of my feedback in BF4... Rumble is vital for knowing where you are getting shot from, what kind of terrain you are going over, among other things

Intergrated Broadband? eh? 5GHz wireless? Thats called Wireless N and its been around since 2000, PC video card? you'll need to elaberate on that. Integrated HDD? Come on man this should even me mentioned... its a given and has been since the 80's. Integrated TV? no just a push though for TV which you still need your tv box for

hm? i dont play BF, but i dont need rumble to know where im getting shot from, i use sound instead lol. Rumble bad for beast aim.
I played ACIV for 7hrs one day and it still had power left so I guess I've never pushed the battery to its limit. That being said I rarely play game sessions that long anymore.
Plus standby mode still charges the controller so I'm not sure what is so bad about the battery in the DS4.

Yea it does knock your aim off somewhat but you get used to it, too me anyway, the benefits far outweigh the negatives. Yea you can do most of this stuff with sound, but its just another way to interact with your surroundings. For example, getting a mobility hit in BF the sounds dissipates after about 3 seconds, yet you care immobile for 7... you only know when you are out of being immobile when the TINY little sign disappears... or rumble stops its very specific set of vibrations. Hepatic Feedback is so helpful, never dismiss it :)
