Absolutely not. It's no coincidence that after the GameCube got off to such horrible sales at it's start that the 3rd parties suddenly started dropping support for the system.I'm not saying that's what'll happen to the PS3, but the first year is important, as in many ways it sets the template for the future of the system.Hoffgod
No, it's not a coincidence...but I'd say that the GameCube was more the victim of precedent than any of the usual first year obstacles. Like it or not, the post-SNES days of the N64 lost Nintendo a lot of fans and a lot of third-party relationships. A year of poor sales wasn't what put the GC in third-place, it was Nintendo's inability to get organized and react appropriately to restore those relationships. For a lot of us, Mario, Link, and Samus had been largely replaced by Snake, Cloud, and Nina Williams. That happened long before the GC was even announced.
It's a catch-22 - gamers wanted more third-party titles, but to get more third-party titles, Nintendo needed more gamers buying their hardware. You're right to correct me, but I think you're off in boiling it all down to some kind of "success/failure within a bubble" during that first year.
Big wall of text...As you can see, maybe the price isn't really the biggest problem, it could be how the smallest rumors and manipulation of rumors can propel people to believe into the wrong ideas and information.StrifeDeliveryActually, I think the biggest problem is the hype Sony themselves built up for their machine, and the fact that it in no way lives up to that hype. Regardless of whether you think it's more powerful than the X360 or not, it's still not what Sony promised people.
Because they aren't many good games out there, just crapy ports.

Sony refers to the PS3 as a blue- ray player not as a gaming console.
Â
Not everyone will spend $600 on it
[QUOTE="Iyethar"][QUOTE="karicha9"]Yeah, price has nothing to do with it...SilverGamer99
It's not just the price. It's also less desirable than its competitors.
MGS4, 8 days, Killzone 2, FF13,FFV13, White Knight Story, Tekken 6, Heavenly Sword, Lair, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, GTA4>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.Halo 3, Mass Effect, Alan Wake,GTA4, Bioshock, and Gears.

hahahah u put GTA4 up against itself...smartÂ
dumb or not, it is expensive. $600 is family groceries for a month, or rent for a month or two, a car payment for a month or two. It is many peoples take home pay for a month or two. When buying a console interfers with paying regular expenses, its expensive. It's not for me, but for millions............it is.its simple....there are no decent games out at the moment. mgs and lair etc will end this ps3s will kik off. what made the 360 sell? gears...what made the wii sell? its controller

Crappest post ever. Killzone better than Halo, Bioshock and Gears? GTA better than GTA? wtf. Â
In order of importance
1. Washed out colors kill all its games, multiplatforms most of all
2. No AA+HDR
3. Price
4. No games to write home about until MGS4 or FF13 arrive in 2008 or 2009

I think Blu-ray plays a part mainly due to the cost, If the PS3 had 200$ invested in ram instead of unused Blu-ray, I would run out right now and get the PS3 even at 600$. But right now the PS3 is a over hyped bottle necked console with pricey Blu-ray technology that offers nothing for gaming.
It's not wise to spend 600$ and then wait, especially when there is only 1 good game to pass the time.Â
A ton of casual PS2 owners are getting Xbox 360s because they think $600 is a big rip off. MANY of the PS2 owneres were casual teens and they are all buying Xbox 360s, especially when Halo 3 comes out because a) No teenage gamer unless obsessed with Sony or obsessed with video games is going to shell out $700+ for a system and mediocre game, they will put that towards a car or gas or something b) they don't want Wii because its childish c) Xbox was cool last gen to have and this gen the graphics are good, Gears of War and Halo 3. Trust me, I'm a teen and I know a couple people personally went the route I stated because of what I said above...shadow8585
Seeing as how the PS3 is a $600 game console, do you honestly think Sony is even remotely interested in your age group?
Most teens would struggle to afford even a $400 system, let alone $600. Whether you think it's a good move on their part or not, Sony is probably more interested in the buying power of a more adult market - they make more money, have higher credit limits, and don't have parents or age restrictions limiting their purchases. For a teen, it's obviously not likely that many of them will be able to afford an HDTV, A/V receiver, surround speakers, and a PS3...but if you being able to afford the PS3 means that I have to lose out on those little luxuries that I (and many others) can afford, then i'm perfectly OK with your age group being left out.
This isn't a personal attack, but you have to realize that as my generation has grown up with this stuff, what we want and what you want are often very different things. Game companies are able to see this shift, so they're trying to design and market their products accordingly. Sony happened to target mine, the Wii is targeting yours, and the 360 is trying to tackle both.
Frankly, i'm shocked that parents are buying their kids the 360 or the Wii. If i'd have asked my Mom for anything in the $250-400 range, she would've laughed in my face and told me to get a job.

stop it, just stop, oh and what do you have to play after Halo 3, I'll tell you nothing.
Â
Do I REALLY need to make a list to prove you wrong? Or will you just accept it and save both of our time?Â
I think there is some games coming to PS3 this year and alot of people will buy it then, I think some of the most wanted games in Europe,South America and middleeast is Pro evoluition soccer,WWE,MGS,RE5 and DMC4.I think major selling amounts of consoles will come after that.bad82man82
well you know most of those are coming to 360 and some already are on 360Â
Coming t 360: RE5 DMC4
already out: WWE, Pro evo soccer

I wish the PS3 had offered what the Xbox offered last gen - that "creme de la creme" gaming experience. It was expensive, it offered fewer games, but they were strikingly better than PS2 games in terms of graphics and sound. Now? The PS3 has yet to top the 360, and keeps getting games six months late.Â
I think my big issue with the PS3 is that it just doesn't offer the gaming experience I want. The 360 Elite and Xbox LIVE are expensive as well, but I'll be getting those this summer after I pick up my new job (moving, need new furniture, there goes a lot of my savings, yay! You don't realize how nice it was being a kid until you spend $600 on a bed instead of a PS3).I wish the PS3 had offered what the Xbox offered last gen - that "creme de la creme" gaming experience. Honestly, that's the same reason I haven't bought one yet...that, and convincing my girlfriend when it's a "good time" to buy one. I tend to have a loose "rule" that I won't buy a console until it has at least 3-5 games i'm really interested in. MGS and FF tend to be among the few franchises that will make me break that rule.
That first year of games never shows what a console is really capable of, though. Go back and look at Perfect Dark Zero and see how it stands up against Gears of War. It's almost comical. Look at the old PS2 launch titles, like Dead or Alive 2 or SSX. I distinctly remember feeling a little underwhelmed when I got my PS2 home on launch day. You're talking to a guy who got stuck with Orphen, because it was all the store had left. Now? It may not be the most powerful system on the block, but there are tons of great games available for it.
The PS3 came only came out a few months ago, but from what i've seen of games like MGS4 and FFXIII, i'm sure that developers will be able to do a lot more with the system than the current games would indicate.
I go where the games are - this gen, it happens to be both Microsoft and Sony offering 'em up.
[QUOTE="SilverGamer99"]I've got a better question, why is 360 not selling? Its been at the 9 million mark like since christmas last year. musicalmac
Is that so? Why then does it sell more than the PS3 has in NAÂ since the PS3 was introduced? Ridiculous.
If the 360 has the games it should be selling like pancakes, but not ... if the PS3 is going to have games and people know it then it sould be selling like pancakes, but not... right now there's no doubt that Wii is keeping their gaming where there mouth is ... it is selling more consoles that its competitors.Â
I'm tired of hearing the "PS3 has no games." I'm sure the PS3 would have quite a few good games now if they stopped making PS2 games and just made PS3 games...like microsoft is doing with the 360 LOL.Daffy101Well they haven't stopped making for the PS2, and they don't have the games..........so just deal with hearing it, because the truth hurts. I am so happy I haven't bought a PS3 yet. Because in the end. WOULD HAVE does count in the real world and this is it buddy.
Seriously. I have the money to buy one right now. but when I look at the PS3  game shelf space in stores it doesnt make me want to buy one.
Maybe if I had an HD TV I would just so I had the option to play more HD content. But with only an SD TV I'm still waitng for NGS, Heavenly sword and Lair to come out. Â I'll be getting Multiplatform games for my 360 mostly so PS3 wil have to have more exclusives out before I get one.
Yeah, price has nothing to do with it...karicha9
If you really believe that price has NOTHING to do with it, I am going to have to call you a fanboy or just plain naive.
It might not be the only reason, it might not be the biggest reason(which I think it is since there are tons of kids in their teens that cant afford it right now and will have to wait till xmas or their birthday), but price IS a reason why its not selling liek the wii at the moment. $250 vs $600....You tell me which is more practical...Speaking strictly about price since that is what this thread is talking about....
its simple....there are no decent games out at the moment. mgs and lair etc will end this ps3s will kik off. what made the 360 sell? gears...what made the wii sell? its controller

Interesting theory, but I'll put my dignity up against yours and say that the 360 will still have a larger userbase after this christmas.
I think its not selling because people dont see it as a step up from the ps2....and why should they for that price??!

where's the EU sales numbers?
if you're going to use multinational markets, you should include them all....;)
and no. 1% penetration of your own customer base is not "fine" by any measure...:(
