You'd think they'd Atleast give us that considering their competitors both are giving it away.Tony-BaxterXbox has been out how many years now? Anyone that wants wifi can get it easily. There are plenty solutions and they don't include purchasing the Microsoft wifi adapter.
Same reason playing games on live still costs you, if people pay they really have no reason to drop it. Look at the $600 PS3 for an example of what happens when people dont pay....alextherussianmight want to check out the $299 ps3 also

because they hate you
Well you have to go back and look at the technology at the time for consoles. Wifi wasn't a big issue last gen and since the 360 was the first console to come out I don't think they needed it. The other two consoles came out a year later and have more time to include whatever they wanted. Besides having the option to adding the newest standard N+ wifi connection is a good option. I don't think you can buy first party products for the Wii or PS3 right now so you're stuck with the older wifi standard in those consoles.

*crawls out from under a rock*
Wait... when did this happen?
Also, I think it's pretty obvious why it's not built-in on the 360. Microsoft does love money afterall.
The bigger question is why the Wii doesn't have an ethernet jack.
I simply cannot fathom any reason for it not be built into the console.
Correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm not that knowledgeable on the subject, but isn't it good that the wifi isn't built in? This way speeds can be increased with wireless N, no? PS3 is just G built in, an upgrade would require a separate device. Plus, you don't have to use microsofts two hundred dollar antenna.
Why wii can't even read a DVD? Cuz that how it is, wireless is useless.silversix_Many 360 users disagree with you. In a place like amazon the 360 wireless adapter has 170 days on the top 100 bestselling list in videogames. That means there are quite a lot of people buying it.

The only way i would see my self spening so much money on an useless thing such as wireless adapter is only if my cables are way too short and i have no choice.

My PS3 is in the living room so I have no choice but to use wireless unless I want a very long cable going throught the house which I don't. Still online works pretty good for me. I can see many people on the same situation. Of course if the adapter was $100 I would look for a way to get that cable there no doubt.[QUOTE="kuraimen"][QUOTE="silversix_"]Why wii can't even read a DVD? Well, if you live in a city, with a wireless connection you can often times just pick up your signal for free. I had xbox live for two years at one point without even having a service provider.

Or the convience of no wires suits your taste perhaps. Not everyone wants to or can have cables running all around the house just for the superior "wired" connection.
wifi connections can be sketchy... sure some people have decent wifi connections, but the more wireless devices you use, and the more electronic interference you get the worse it is. XBL is a much better thought out service than PSN, and the designers of the 360 knew the more wireless devices the lower the quality of online gaming would be. Still some people have no option besides wireless so MS provides a solution, but they create a barrier to the cost of entry to keep it from reaching the masses. If MS really wanted to make money they'd drop the price/quality to where it would sell more units, and easily gain more profit, but profit isn't why the wireless device is so expensive... we not profit from hardware considering live is MS money printing machine right now.
Because..... most people have Ethernet cables... and isn't wifi horrible for online MP? I honestly think Sony is very stupid for wasting thier money and time on features too many people don't care about... blu-ray? Wifi... costly features I abosultely never wanted.............................................................while the Xbox 360 focused on online MP.... games.... being able to install your games on your console to conserve games..... being able to create your own game and sell it on live...... now those are cooler features... know why? Because they have to do with games...and that's why I bought a console... for the games not to watch a movie on blu-ray.......CalmadorSpeak for yourself. I use my PS3 for blu ray just as much as i use it for gaming, and the wifi is very convenient because it doesnt require me to drill holes all through my house.

Maybe because only 10% of 360 gamers actually need it, it is pointless
A 5$ lan cable will do, 99% of the time 360 is not THAT far from the router, and you can always grab a HUGE lan cable for almost free
MS is doing it the right way, i dont want to pay extra for something i have exactly ZERO need of
The $299 PS3 has WIFI built in but the $299 360 doesn't. What does that show you? They gave it for free considering you have to pay extra if you want to WIFI add-on for the 360.
If they aren't too greedy, they'll put it regardless if you need it or not, its not like you are forced to use it if its there.
The real argument is why MS didn't add the feature and why must charge $100 for it when they know the competition is giving it built in and technically free.
This is MS we are talkin about, ofcourse they will charge for anything.
because wifi is pointless for anything that stays in one place. laptop and pdas are the only things that wifi is useful on. Wired connections are simpler and work better so why go wireless? imprezawrx500
cause my PS3 and wii dont always stay in the same place. My PS3 ends up downstairs frequently and that in itself gives me more of a reason why i prefer using a wireless setup also the fact i dont like cables lying around :( if i could have wireless stereo speakers i would until that day comes i cant :( cause the speakers are laid under the floor.
At the time of its release, wireless just wasn't as prominent. The target market was late teens/early 20 somethings. The system sold well, so obviously microsoft made the right choice. Wireless is nice, but its hardly essential. With the amount of cables going in and out of a surround reciever, woofers, and a plasma, I can't see myself being bothered by one more.
Honestly, I am glad they don't and hope they keep the prices up. Wireless is garbage for online gaming and there is nothing worse than getting on someone's awful wireless connection barely a half a mb upload with huge lag spikes and the game doesn't have host migration.
The ignorance on this thread is outstanding. Wireless router =/= terrible connection. It doesn't always make sense to run 100ft wires through your house when you have an good cable provider. Wireless is future proof, and it keeps on getting faster and more stable. It's also way more convenient and I still don't lag in games. Maybe your modem/router is next to your Xbox 360 and that's great for you, but for others the set up is a little more complicated. If you're worried about connection and lag, just make sure you get the right router and set it up right. My baby = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124190mD-
Please, just stop making excuses. Have you ever thought about having your modem and wireless router next to your Xbox 360, hardline into the router and make your PC wireless? I think you need the better bandwidth for online gaming than surfing Gamespot.
And wireless router != terrible connection it is a wireless connection that is unstable and is not as good for online gaming. Have you actually played on someones wireless connection? I have plenty on numerous occasions with all different service providers, DSL and cable and it's bad.

Played games on STEAM, like TF2, Counter-Strike: Source. Played and downloaded off of PSN and Xbox Live. No lag at all. My brother has played on PSN while I've been downloading at 600 k/b and surfing the web. No lag at all. I give a lot of credit to my excellent router too. Comcast is my cable provider and I've pretty sure my speeds are a little lower than they can be because everyone around uses Comcast too. I NEVER lose connection with that wireless router by the way. I've never had to reset it once. I've had routers that are worse than this, so that's why I know this one is amazing. Please Log In to post.
