Just watch the command success rate 360 vs X1 dpad video and you'll see why.

You do know that Dpad on the X1 is 100x times better than on the 360?

Could you explain why you think that?

I heard it was a lot better than the 360's D-pad. Played it for about 30 mins and thought it was better.

I've played Killer Instinct in Best Buy for about 2 hours and I was forced to use the analog to play because the dpad would not register my diagonal inputs but once out of every 10 attempts which is terrible for fighting games since I'm a dpad user. The dpad on the x1 is terrible for diagonal inputs as shown in this video:

Loading Video...

I can not agree about the X1 controller being better.

I own the Xbone machine and I've logged in hours in Killer Instinct and I can tell you first hand the Xbone Dpad can be incredibly aggravating to use for fighting gamers. I'm a hardcore fighting fan though and I play a lot of 2D games and Indie games, so I can see FPS/3D gamers not caring as much. The Dpad does look better yes. It had me fooled on looks along, but the Dpad actual real performance is the problem.

That video illustrates the problem with the new Dpad which is Diagonals.

Also, I swear I had this same conversation and I posted that video a few weeks ago. Déjà vu FTW!

@SolidTy: Out of curiosity I took apart a 360 rechargeable battery pack that had stopped taking charge and was mildly surprised to see there were simply two skinless AA NiCad batteries inside the casing. For some reason I expected something different.

Maybe I should do that sometime with some of my wonky battery packs, haha. Your results don't surprise me given the shape.

Even though they couldn't supply enough power to use a 360 pad, I could still stick them on my Duracell charger and use them in my TV remote. Not just nifty, but also thrifty. Win-win. :)

Nifty and thrifty, indeed. LOL! Also, I may follow in those footsteps. Thanks for the super gaming pro-tip! :P

Do Xbone controllers all have broken analog sticks right out of the box like 360 controllers do?

The Xbox One is getting another controller update, unfortunately.

then buy a recharge pack, If you are so worried.

*note: The legendary SolidTy purchased about 6 recharge packs but still bitches*

I shouldn't have too, that's my issue. It's the principle. I hope with the next Xbox, they offer internal + cord. You are right, the solution is only dollars away, but for $500, I was hoping for more value.

I went through half a dozen battery packs on 360, those things don't last forever sadly.

Really, I have three and all are still functioning.

Although I did notice Play and Charge Kit doesn't work on the 360. The recharge pack has charge memory problems. I took one I thought was dead and was about to throw away and tried it in the 360 Quick Charge Kit (charges a pack in two hours from wall socket) and after a 2 or 3 charges from empty to full, it was fully usable again, Stopped using the Play and Charge Kit after that.

There is also the matter of gaming time on 360 between us to consider...as well as the length of time we've owned 360s to consider. I can't tell you how many hours I've played 360, but I can tell you I have over 120,000 Gamerscore if that gives you an idea. That doesn't count all the hours (hours upon hours) I put into fighting and online shooter games I maxed out the Gamerscore but continued to play against others online. I have had two 360s since 2005 launch. I have about 6-7 of the battery packs that hold 10 minutes or less and need to be charged again. I have probably 4 of them I bought three-ish years ago (because my originals were not working), and only two of them still work proper. The other two hold half a charge.

My equipment btw, is TWO wall socket chargers (360 Quick Charge Kits), and at least four Play and Charge cords. I'm not sure they even sell white battery packs anymore, but that's what a lot of mine are. I also have a few black, one green, and one red battery pack.

The idea that as a new Xbone owner, three-four years from now that $25 battery pack won't be working right doesn't sit well with me.

Don't let my low gamer score fool you, while it says only 20 something thousand, I put a shit ton of hours in, granted not as much as you, but I usually play the same games over and over and over. I have 3 recharge packs I was using in rotation, and have worn out 2 or so controllers playing. I've had a 360 since 2006 when they came back in stock in the UK.

I've put a RIDICULOUS amount of time into Ace Combat 6, since it's launch in 2007 alone and I still play it week in and week out and that's never going to change until there's something better in that genre, other games might take me away from it for a short while but I'll be back on it, it's an obsession. so my gamer score isn't getting any bigger any time soon. It's the only game I have two copies of in case my current one wears out too much.

But to be honest I use the corded 360 pad now, because the battery slot sticks out a bit in the wireless pad, and without it, it's just a bit lighter and more comfortable.

Yeah the design of the controller looks great but it has those issues here and there that are a nuisance.

The only issue I have with the controller is the shape of the bumpers and triggers - 5/10 times I end hitting the back edge of the bumper. Why the f--- would you "shape" the buttons together yet not allow me fluidly slide my index finger completely across the trigger into the bumper? Makes no sense.

I actually played XBO at Best Buy last week... Not impressed at all.

The controller is indeed worse. The triggers now have a void when pressed and tend to lightly pinch your fingers. The bumpers are a chore to hit and the whole controller is sloped inwards on the handle... Making in feel like crap.

Not to mention the flat top of the controller makes it feel cheap.

The interface is complete and utter mess of boxes and the demo's I played didn't look good either.

yup, the 12-14 hours battery life is better. and it gets fully charged in 50-70mins

You realize the quicker you charge batteries the more heat generated and the quicker you destroy them. Thats why i prefer replaceable batteries i can slowly charge them at 200MA over several hours and just pop in a fresh set of batteries in the meantime.

@HalcyonScarlet: There is really no reason for a 360 controller to be "worn out" as long as the circuit board is fine, if a bumper goes out you can buy a new one for 50 cents shipped off ebay, an analog stick is 90 cents shipped. With a desoldering iron (or braid), soldering iron, and a torx 8 wrench (for a wireless controller) it takes about 5 minutes to replace them. All my launch controllers are still going strong, i just replace the buttons as necessary and its incredibly easy to do. Definitely worth the initial investment.

@SolidTy: Play and charge kits are garbage batteries, just as the built in DS4 batteries are garbage. Buy some eneloops, cheaper than a play and charge kit... hold a charge for longer, should easily last you 10 years, and can be used in both 360 and xbox one controllers or your lady's personal massager etc ;)

Its better just because it has a Nintendo like D-pad, only because Ninty's patent just expired.

Even then. I liked the feel of the 360 more. Even with the shit D-pad.

What we're Microsoft thinking

It's not. XBox One has a few addition features that makes it better then the 360 overall. The 360 controller still has a slightly better feel, but both controllers are awesome.

I think the Xbox One controller is damn near perfect. Same goes for the PS4 controller. Both have improved much since their predecessors. Last gen I was always torn, I liked size of the 360 controller, the triggers, and the perfect fit over the small sized of the PS3 controller. However the PS3 had the thumbstick layout I liked and I found the battery life to just be better with it for some reason. Also the D-Pad was definitely superior for fighting games and side scrollers.

This gen I say they're both equally tied. I could pick up either one and be just fine.

The XB1 controller is better than the 360 controller IMO.

Only step back was the bumpers, everything else is better.

PS4 controller is very good as well, only downside is the analog stick placement.

Once they release a mod then it will be perfect.

I rate them like this

  1. PS4 modded with offset sticks
  2. Xbox One Controller
  3. PS4 Controller
  4. 360 Controller
  5. Old lady boobs
  6. PS3 Controller

I dont get the complaint about the bumpers, the bumpers are great. I can roll my index finger to the side and hit the bumpers while keeping the trigger pressed. I love the new bumpers. With the 360 pad if there was a game that used the bumpers and triggers heavily i would have to put my index fingers on the bumpers and my middle fingers on the triggers and hold the controller all awkward.

The only thing I dont like more about the xbox one controller is the size of the thumbsticks, i like the texture and feel but i wish they were larger like the old 360 controller.

I havent tried the X1 controler yet but I found the 360 one very overrated. Its astounding how people call it "near perfect" when its FAR from it. Seriously only the ergonomics and the triggers where really good, the rest was bad to mediocre.

stick placement has more to do with muscle memory than whatnot. I prefer the simetrical placement of the DS but thats subjective

the 360 bumpers where HORRIBLE. it had barelly any depth to them. they felt just like some "click" on/off buttons. Horrible

The face buttons where... weird. the DS2/3 face buttons where smooth with barely any convex shape in them wich made them confortable to press. The 360 ones where more convex thus making me feel a "bump" when pressing them. It was a minor thing but still kinda anoying after being used to the DS3

And dont get me started on the terrible TERRIBLE D-pad. Just worthless.

This is how I feel. The only thing the 360 controller was better for was shooters AND ONLY because of the triggers. Everything else I prefered the DS3.

Oh, and if you dont believe I have a 360 controller see pic below. I bought one for my pc.

It's more like the nintendo d-pad now, but they didn't go far enough, they should've just cloned it.

I really hate that it still uses batteries. I can only think of one reason they did that, and that is so they could make money on rechargeable battery packs and chargers.

Laughs at TC having to try the gamepad at some sketchy kids store. The gamepad is fine and anyone complaining about the shoulder buttons you are doing it wrong.

It shouldnt require a video tutorial to use a freakin controller, just the fact that you need to press the bumpers in a specific way shows how bad of a design the bumpers are on the XBONE controller.
