Because the Xbox One seems like its built like a PC; it looks like it can be assembled pretty easily. The PS4 on the other hand probably has a lot of custom internals. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone considering Sony makes a living designing hardware. Like Yoshida said, the PS4 looks like a second iteration of a console; the PS4 is simply seems really well designed.

EDIT - The real reason why the Xbox One is that size and look is because they wanted it to look like an entertainment device that could stand on its own in the middle of the living room.

Height wise the XO is slightly taller but if you turn the PS4 side ways it takes the same amount of shelf space as the XO.

Xbone is bigger, heavier, fatter, weaker, uglier, more expensive, overall it's just poorly designed console....i bet it'll break easier too

Why is Xbox Live bigger than PSN?

It all boils down to the strengths of the company and Sony has more experience at making hardware than Microsoft does

Because the XOne is a custom built, optomised, very efficient console that is silent.

PS4 is an off the shelf cram job that will probably sound like a jet engine, just like the fat PS3.

You're so predictable.

Because, MS aren't "Hardware" geniuses like Sony; which is why MS started all this PR bullsh!t about how they have the better "software" engineers... Honestly, no one cares about your software when you have a history of hardware failure.

[QUOTE="Wickerman777"]

Well, half the console is a gargantuan fan.

xhawk27

And yet Sony Trolls and MS haters think somehow that the Xbox One is going to have hardware issues like the 360!

All you have to do to overheat the XB1 is to lay a game case on top of the grill.

That fan blows air up or down through the grill - it's so easy to accidentally cover up that grill with anything - a case, a book... I wonder how fast it'll heat up when people lay stuff on top of the grill and cut off the airflow? Seems like a bad design idea to me.

Because they don't know how to design their consoles.

Although,

big heatsink = cooler

big fan = low RPM = silent.

Except that X1 will run like a well oiled machine and PS4 will have UI lag and load times when switches from games to netflix. Hardware specs can actually have their ahrdware differences minimized with proper software vs poor programmed software.

i ordered the ps4 BUT seriously i could care less about the LOOKS of the console. If MS has gone with a bigger console, so what?. Maybe it'll be better at keeping the console cool. That fan looks pretty big and thats actually a good thing.

we aren't going to be staring at the consoles guys, we are going to be using them! i like the controller for the xbox one as well. it actually looks improved.

[QUOTE="asylumni"]It's mostly an aesthetic decision in how each wants their console to look. MS appears to have chosen a design to fit in with other a/v components while Sony chose a more unique appearance. It has very little, if anything to do with cooling as, contrary to popular belief, a bigger box does not mean better cooling once you include fan(s).cain006

Yes it does. Allows for more surface area for heat sinking and larger fans.

True to a point, but we aren't talking about laptops, here.  Both are well past the point where heatsink and fan size could be an issue.

The shots of the XBONE internals showed there was a lot of unused space left over in the casing and that their cooling solution is really simple. It's probably a cost-cutting measure.
