I mean they lowered the price also, and at 299 Elite is a really nice deal.

I dont know weather their was a spike or not ......But how far ahead was the $299 elite rumored and even announced before the actual drop? That needs to be factored in both cases.I mean they lowered the price also, and at 299 Elite is a really nice deal.

I dont think many new users are thinking of getting a 360 now that there is a better console for the same price.
I think Premium at 199$ would really give Sony trouble again, maybe bring the Arcade down to 149$, I would think by now to manufacture a 360 Arcade is probably under 150$.
its a nice deal, but the 360 hasnt made any noise so to speak in the gaming department so far this year.
[QUOTE="DeadMagazines"]Because it's september maybe? Still gonna laugh when 360 outsells ps3 during holiday. Oresome
ya all those RROD victims need to replace their 360s!
Hmmm ....so why did they go with the 360 instead of PS3.......how telling huh? Or mabey its just that what you said is not true? And yet if it was it really makes you think huh? So what is it ?:)Cuz its not a real price cut they just discontinued pro which was $299 and made elite $299 so its like just give consumers an extra 60 GB space in HDD only sorry but thats not enough to draw people attention seems MS cant lower 360 price anymore at the current time cuz they want to remain profitable on every 360 sold.
Because it's september maybe? Still gonna laugh when 360 outsells ps3 during holiday. DeadMagazinesThat really is not going to happen, because grand turismo 5 is getting released in december and you will have a pretty big boost in europe sales for ps3, and then final fantasy 13 is coming out december in japan which the ps3 will have a massive boost in sales, So this holiday worldwide there is no chance 360 will outsell ps3.
Hardware wise, at the same price point, PS3 demolishes the 360, its just a better built console, 360 is just a one dimensional gaming console, and it does a pretty good job at it, both consoles has sometihng different to offer.
Is there some reason the Xbox should spike in sales? No price drop, no big games until halo std.... nothing new reallyTheDuffman26Was that a misquote or a bash?
Anyway, lack of progress in the gaming department could have something to do with it.

bash Oh I guess when you put it that way then we should all be juvenille when describing things we don't like. In fact I could go off and say things like "PS3 owns crapbox 360" or "360 pwns g**sation 3" and wouldn't bring anything intelectual to the debate. On topic, yeah the 360's been slipping. We'll have to see what happens this holiday season.I think Premium at 199$ would really give Sony trouble again, maybe bring the Arcade down to 149$, I would think by now to manufacture a 360 Arcade is probably under 150$.

Yes but without the hard drive a 360 is really worthless and $120 for 120 gigs is just laughable not as laughable as $100 for 20 gigs :)

I don't know if that was a typo, but I LOL'ed

I dont know weather their was a spike or not ......But how far ahead was the $299 elite rumored and even announced before the actual drop? That needs to be factored in both cases. It was not known ahead because they did it out of desperation due to Sony's drop.Microsoft can do one of two things to compete with Sony:
drop the price of the Elite to $199
or
Start including wifi at no extra charge and drop the X-Box Live charge
If Microsoft doesn't do something soon they're screwed. PS3 is by far a better value. The only reasons left to buy a 360 are "Halo!111!!!!111!!111", "Mass Effect11!!!!111!!!1!!! or"all my friends are on X-Box Live1!11!!11!!!". Seriously, what other reason is there?

Those sound like very legitimate reasons. Wouldn't you want a system that has your favorite games and has most of your friends playing it?Microsoft can do one of two things to compete with Sony:

No. PS3 is the better value because it has Wi-fi and blu-ray. It doesn't even matter if you lack a wireless router or HDTV(Most people don't have these), PS3 is the better value. Drivel Drivel.I already said other times that the price-cut announcement for 360 wouldn't have the same 'big' impact as the PS3 one...
Dont forget that 360 has been the cheapest console for a very long time with the Arcade model (and still is), and the Elite was still cheaper than the PS3 (before price-cut), so its not like we should suddenly expect 360 sales to boost at a considerable rate just cause the elite got a price-cut...
If 360 didnt sell on a regular basis 3x as much as PS3 when it was $100 - 200 cheaper (arcade model) dont expect it to sell such figures now that PS3 is just $100 more and for just that amount has also WiFI &Blu-ray..PS3 now also offers a solid games library & a much better online (free) service than what was back in 2007..
People are scrambling to pick up PS3s now that they're more affordable, we know that a lot of folks have been waiting since release for this price drop. 360 price drop on the hand wasn't really significant since most consumer opt to buy the cheapest model M$ has to offer anyways.
The only way I'd buy a 360 is if they had a model with at least 80gb for $150 and Xbox Live as a free service. With a 54.2% failure rate, I wouldn't pay for a 360 unless I got a deal that good or better.Nadya__Sulemandude where did you get the 54.2% failure rate? , gamespot did a news story on this the other day, the failure rate since the begginning of 2007 was around 27% but that figure included the oldr zephyr 360 units, your figure is just garbage mate.

People forget that the past holiday seasons PS3 was always much more expensive than the 360.. the arcade & premium were much cheaper than the PS3 since PS3's launch..(even the Elitehas always been cheaper)
but this holiday season it will be a much more interesting to see how both consoles do.. PS3 though still more expensive is at a reasonable/affordable price considering at $299 you'll be getting also a Blu-ray player... Something not to underestimate is the fact that PS3 now has a solid games library which imo is on par with 360, something that could not be said back in 2007 & even 2008 (though 2008 Ps3's games library was already great)
Finally many gamers love playing online, enjoy theextra DLC & downloading XBL titles sothat would make the 360 Elite modelthe perfect choice and compared to PS3 slim, there isnt much of a difference price-wise (adding up XBL cost).. I think it will bemuch more of a fair 'battle' this holiday season..
I dont know which console will enjoy better sales, both have much to offer & with some great exclusives coming up..
The price drop was probably done to stop 360 sales from decreasing rather than making them really increase.Floppy_Jim
I got that same feeling, somehow MS saw the PS3 at $299 as a threat, which further confirmed that price factor is important for the consumer and was the main reason why 360 outsold PS3 for many months/weeks in certain areas (US & EUmainly)..
MS'price-cut serves to minimise the impact in lower sales caused by gamers choosing a PS3at its new price of$299
