How can they get away with this garbage? They're a big-name developer. Do they not even bug test their games at all? Seriously. It's like they slap them together and ship them out without testing for bugs. Every game past Morrowind has been a buggy mess. Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Brink, and now Skyrim. It's unbelievable. And there are GAME-BREAKING bugs. Escortees in an escort mission that just vanish, NPCs not doing what they need to to complete a quest, extreme model clipping, texture issues, falling through objects, and crashing. Oh man, crashing. You thought Source was bad with alt-tabbing? Play a Bethesda game. Hope you like hearing a sound effect on loop for 5 minutes. It's like they spent all the development time on graphics. And even then, the graphics are trash, with horrible models, low-res and pop-in textures, and just overall ugliness. Bethesda games only look good at a distance while squinting.

It's inexcusable, and I honestly don't know how people try to justify buying a Bethesda game at launch.

Yeah, what the player mod community has to fix up what Bethesda left behind is inexcusable.

New Vegas was Obsidian (Bethesda published and was in charge of patches I think).

I've only run into a few bugs in Skyrim so far, so it's not too bad. I can justify it easily though... The games they release are awesome.

Is this another copy+pasted/stole article you got from somewhere else? Anyone who would actually try to argue this would know not to include Brink.

Also that picture isn't buggy. It's intended. The Gamebyro engine was a PoS which led to multiple problems. It's hard to create a fully open world like Elder Scrolls and be able to nail every bug.

I'll avoid Skyrim for now. Let the launch users be my play testers. That seems to be the strategy at Bethesda

People don't excuse the bugs? Skyrim got a 9 and in negatives it specifically says there are bugs. Really though People are willing to excuse them because Bethesda games are good enough in other ways.

The only logical reason is the game is too large to bug test thoroughly.

I don't see how the picture is indicative of a bug. I think guards should do their duty even when they are in water ...

" Every game past Morrowind has been a buggy mess." Uh? You sure? because last time I checked, every Bethesda game after Arena has been a buggy mess. Every Elder Scrolls game has been a super bugfest at launch. Arena - Bugged Filled. Daggerfall - Bugged Filled Side Games - Bugged Filled. and so on. The good thing now is, they release patches! Before, rarely anyone had connection to internet, so they didn't bother. lol

my guess is the dvd limitations of the 360, a game that big just isnt meant for 1 dvd disc.

I got rid of Fallout 3 after I had a glitch that made progressing the plot impossible, and this was late in. New Vegas crashed a lot which was very annoying but luckily it saves every time you enter a new room and I was saving more than usual too. It was still awful and I'm not buying anything with the Bethesda name on it until a patch or two.

So, compressing a game onto a disk causes in-engine/game bugs? Could you explain exactly how?

Could you also explain, if what you say is the case, how games released before the 360 were also bg filled.

I have yet to encounter any major bugs in any Bethesda developed game. All I ever came across were wierd ones, like flying 100feet into the air after getting hit by a giant...

Colour me lucky, I suppose. :?

It's more likely to happen in sandbox games, as eventually the player will do something that the developer hadn't anticipated. But yeah, Bethesda tend to push it to the limit when it comes to bugs.

Bethesda has crappy programmers/bug testers I would imagine. A friend of mine is loving Skyrim but he had to make a new character because towards the end of the main quest the NPC he had to talk to randomly became hostile no matter what he did. He reloaded a save an hour beforehand and they still became hostile and attacked him immediately. Plenty of graphical glitches when I watched him play, too. Most people give them a pass on bugs because they find the games really enjoyable. I can understand that I think, even though I feel that just about everything in their games is lacking.

All games of TES series are buggy (Daggerfall was probably the most buggy of them all) because they are open-world games that are trying to emulate real world, and thats a goal that is incredibely difficult to achieve in a singleplayer game. Skyrim is actually pretty well polished. The screenshot you posted is not even a problem for me considering the scaleof the game.

Reminds me of when people were claiming Kevin ignored the framerate problems in Dark Souls, even though he clearly brought them up and marked them down as negatives. I think certain people around these parts don't have the attention span to actually read/watch the reviews, so they base their entire argument around the score.

Because they take bigger chances and are more ambitious then more devs.

Its not a linear corridor game its games wher eyou can go ANYWHERE you want.

Skyrim is very well optimized though, I have played 25 hours and no issues. I almost cnat belive its a Bethesda game heheh.

Because they're massive complex games....that's really the only reason. They are games that try to do things few (if any) other games attempt. And they largely succeed. I've only had a game breaking bug happen once in a Bethesda game, in Morrowind, can't remember the details too well but it was during the main quest. I think it was a skull I needed to retrieve vanished or was glitched or something.

Besides, you think Bethesda is bad with bugs, go look at ANY Obsidian game to see how bad bugs and glitches can really get.
