Clearly, I just can't understand this one. First with MW2 pc gamers said that they would boycott the pc version of the game and then when it was released alot of pc gamers bought it despite saying they would boycott it (see the steam boycott group picture). Then everyone said that they would never buy another CoD after all the hacks and bugs MW2. Activision announces that Treyarch will develop another new CoD and alot of people say they will buy it and continue letting the franchise being milked. Can someone explain why is that?

Because the Shooter Fetish is still underway and probably wont die until next gen where consoles actually support MMOs properly.

Honestly, there is some truth that Call of Duty games are fun, though most people here complain.

I just think a good franchise is getting milked. I would have stopped after MW2 for atleast 2 years.

You might as well ask that for every single IP that is still going on.

Well, they don't release a game that is some updates of the old one each year. Halo that is another hated franchise (especially by cows) takes some time before releasing a new one and Mario, well the main series take some time too.

There are tons of gamers who dont know much about the gaming industry and the just buy stuff becuz its popular and thier friends are getting it. I know a guy that bought a PS3 like a month ago and was shocked to find out that Gears wasnt on the PS3. So you see, some people dont know stuff we here think its basic for every gamer.

Some people have decided the hacks at Treyarch are somehow gods because they didn't **** them quite as vigorously as Infinity Ward did with their last game. I.E. World at War had dedicated servers and mods on PC, whereas MW2 did not. I don't see how that in any way excuses the general level of mediocrity in WaW, the hilariously historically inauthentic material, or the completely shameless way in which the hacks at Treyarch stole wholesale the entire game of COD4, including the engine, game mechanics, and UI, and slapped a few World War 2 skins over top of it and called it done. They don't deserve anyone's respect, that's for sure.

It used to ba an amazing franchise once, and there's still a glimmer of that it you're willing to look past all the bull****.

Not enough to make me play it anymore, but I understand it.

Yeah, I have read that CoD3 is the first or second worst of the series and that WaW was just a copy paste of MW only with a different setting. I bet Activision also will tell Treyarch to remove dedicated servers and mods on the pc version of this new CoD.

Absolutely not, the core mechanics of the series have ALWAYS been weak. The series only came to glory with COD4, because they painted a bunch of flashy nonsense overtop of it like killstreaks and "OMG +10!!!" arcade crap that stuns folks and cows them into grinding in games. Honestly, I liked COD4 more than COD2. The mechanics were exactly the same, which is to say they were mediocre, but at least, for a few hours, I felt like I was doing something interesting.

Sure they do. It had a great coop campaign with the really fun Nazi zombie mode. Sure, it copied many elements from IW but it is very much it's own game with a separate feel to it entirely. Also, you're extreme views on the Call of Duty franchise seem a bit to harsh.

I had much more fun with W@W than in CoD4, and I've hated every IW Call of Duty since 2. So I like Treyarch better. Aren't opinions great?

I just finished MW singleplayer. And i was underwhelmed. I just don't believe this game. If you even go one step from the path the game intended for you, bam dead! Infinite spawning enemies, you never actually do anything by yourself, you are constantly guided, every little step is narrated to you like you are a little child or something. And grenade spam, oh my god, who designed this! I must have died like twenty times from enemies constantly spamming grenades. MP was fun though, pretty slick, but i would rather play CS Source. I didn't pay much for it and it was OK i guess. No way am i getting MW2 at 60 euro price..

I bet you bought it when it was 15 at Steam. The most hilarious thing is that Activision was also advertising the five maps for MW2 that had the same price as MW1.

It did not even have a remotely unique feeling to it. It was a hack job, plain and simple. A small group of monkeys could have made that game for all the talent and inventiveness required. They basically took a complete game and reskinned it. There are modders that do more, but I don't see you drumming up how awesome they are.

people enjoy them.

I don't understand why people like these JRPGs and whatnot, but I'm not going to go around asking them why, because it's their taste and it's bound to be different with every person you meet.

I've bought one COD game, MW2, I'll just point out that these bugs/glitch complaints appear to be hyperbole. maybe I'm blind, I just know the game isn't properly balanced, and for some, they aren't going to be bothered by it.

So you think that the hand ful of people that said they would boycott the game on PC from message boards are the only people that buy PC games? It isn't at all possible that 95% of the people that actually DID buy the game don't even post on message boards or said NOTHING about boycotting the game? The other answer to your question is simple... HYPOCRISY. It is the answer to most of the stupid questions that get asked on these boards. "ACTIVISION IS THE DEVIL, ILL NEVER BUY A GAME OF THERES AGAIN! OMG I CANT WAIT TO TRY THAT NEW BUNGIE IP! THEY ARE INDEPENDENT FROM ACTIVISION SO ITS OK!"

It doesn't matter if Bungie's independent, Activision owns the exclusive distribution and production rights for their new IP for ten years. Essentially, whatever new game they're making is going to be owned and exploited by Activision for the next decade.

Yes it does have a unique feeling to it! I can't describe it, but the atmospheric music and look of the game is just really great. Maybe you have to play it for as long as I did, but it really has a goth-type feel to it. I hated the game on PC though, it was much better on Xbox, as with COD4. But MW2 is on par with Xbox now because of the great matchmaking. I haven't tried any of the mods, but I'm not personally interested in them for this game. Let's not get into the old dedicated server vs P2P debate though; for this game I much prefer the matchmaking system.

I was going to post something like that on the topic but I don't know if the mods would get angry if hypocrisy is on the title. But I agree with you, everyone here said that Activision is the new Electronic Arts, that they ruined Infinity Wards and they would never buy any Call of Duty again. Funny is how people change what they say.

Why? That makes no sense. Maybe not good to you, but the general public thinks the game is great. Gaming communities opinion as a whole > any individuals. At least in a debate on whether a game is good or not.

Really? Let's put it this way: Activision hires a crappy developer for develop Call of Duty. As long as the game has Call of Duty on its name then it is instant sales, it doesn't matter if the game is good or not. And for the second one, ask any decent gamer and they will tell you MW2 isn't compared to MW1 and the second one sold more than the first one.

So the millions who play MW2 over COD4 are just idiots then? And yes if COD was a bad game it wouldn't sell(not the crazy numbers MW2 pulled off anyway). I don't care what you put on the front of it.

You could asked that about any longer running IP Games. Why do people still play MGS, FF, GT, Halo, Zelda, Mario, etc...? They play because the game is fun and exciting. It takes the gamer away from the real world for just that short period of time. Maybe gamers like that.

It might be fun for a while but sadly, the publisher of the game is a bad company. How's that that you must pay $60 dollars for that game in pc without the dedicated servers or mods? Or that you must pay $15 dollars for five... three new maps? Clearly, that is the reason I don't like alot CoD. Well, I wish I could continue discussing this but I need to do some work and this thread is killing my spare time. Later.

Other games are too hard for them to enjoy, I guess. Every shooter, that isn't COD that is, that I own has a higher learning curve and takes much more skill to play well. KZ2, BC2, U2, they are all more difficult to learn how to play than CoD, and they are all less popular. All of those games have a lot of recoil in the shooting, varying levels of accuracy. Warhawk is another one that is insanely difficult to get good at.

[QUOTE="XanderZane"]You could asked that about any longer running IP Games. Why do people still play MGS, FF, GT, Halo, Zelda, Mario, etc...? They play because the game is fun and exciting. It takes the gamer away from the real world for just that short period of time. Maybe gamers like that. Miroku32

Well, that's you. There are other people who didn't mind paying the $15 for the maps and playing the game dedicated or non-dedicated servers. It amazes me that hermits think because the PC is more powerful and have dedicated servers, that gamers would automatically flock to the format to play the same game. lol!! It doesn't work that way. MW2 sold like 8 times more copies on game consoles, then on the PC. Dedicates server or not. It's obvious where the majority of people like to play certain games. MMORPG and RTS are for the PC. Everything gets played more on game consoles.

LOL!! Most of those games aren't difficult for seasoned gamers. They may be difficult for you, but most gamers who have played shooters for several years are able to adapt to whatever controls are thrown at them. Warhawk always took a little time to learn, but it's not much harder then any other flying game.

honestly in my opinion, the core gameplay is better than most other shooters on consoles. better than stuff like halo at least.

I didn't say that they were difficult for me to learn, nor did I imply that what I said was in regards to "seasoned gamers" (lol). I'm speaking about popularity, which isn't exclusively comprised of seasoned gamers. In fact, I would think most people who are better at shooters would avoid the CoD franchise, as it is simple, and lacking in depth. I don't care about killstreaks and perks when the gameplay is uninspired, lacking in any sort of realism, and most of the guns feel the same.

I thought that KZ2 had a pretty steep learning curve, and I think most people felt that way also, which is why the online shrank so rapidly. The community on there now is pretty dedicated though.

Because COD isn't trash or the devil, it's a great series. I'm quite disappointed with MW2, but many others love it. Even if you prefer other games, there is no denying it is a very good, fun series.
