PS3 isnt doing all that well anywhere... and I dont see it doing much better anywhere else. The console is an overpriced pos with very few exclusive titles no matter what territory you live in lol

(3. 1 million PS3s are being shipped to the UK alone on launch day. A reason Wii sales are starting to dwindle is because people are fed up with waiting to get one, this will not be the case with PS3, it will be easy to get, attracting casuals...)                                                                                                                                                             LOL this is one of the funniest things i have ever read at gs. Saying something isn't selling because its selling to much is just to funny, doesn't make sence at all

1. Sony consoles ALWAYS sell best in Europe. In UK PSP is beating DS, and Europe bought the most PS2s, more than US

2. PS3 games are CHEAPER than 360 and Wii games in Europe, at only £40, while Wii games are £50 and 360 games are £60

3. 1 million PS3s are being shipped to the UK alone on launch day. A reason Wii sales are starting to dwindle is because people are fed up with waiting to get one, this will not be the case with PS3, it will be easy to get, attracting casuals

4. On average Europeans earn more money than Americans, so $600 seems like nothing to them

5. RFoM is a Brittish game with Brittish voice acting. UK gamers will see this and will like the game

6. Seing as though most Europeans own a PS2 and PS1, they will not be put down by the slightly worst BC

7. Only the 60GB model will be available there, so Sony wont have to waste time making 2 kinds, meaning more supply.

It won't win in Europe this year that's for sure. When the Xbox 360 was first released to limited amounts people saw it as a bad PR stunt and it took Microsoft months to recover from that. The console is doing well because it's had time to establish itself, the same can be true for the Wii to a lesser extent.

Also I think it's poor showing on Sony not to release the list of PS2/PS1 games that can run on the PS3 until launch day.

PS3_FTW

1. Alright, so you go with brand name.  That worked well for Nintendo when the original Playstation came out.  The brand name will not save Sony.

2. Wii games are the same price as PS3 games, and 360 games are only £45

3. 1 million PS3s are being shipped to the UK...if you still trust Sony to ship as many as they say.

4. First, the PS3 isn't $600, it's a couple hundred more (£117, approx $230), second even assuming average European welfare is better than that of Americans (which it's not), the PS3 still carries a huge price tag.

5. I'm not even going to say anything.

6. What?  Owning a previous console means you don't care about BC?  What about those people (by which I mean the majority) who want to sell their previous console to be able to even afford the PS3?

7. So, by making people pay even more money, it'll convince them to buy?  The problem in the US and Japan isn't even supply anymore, it's demand.  PS3s aren't selling.

How can anyone blindly buy a PS3 in europe if sony refuses to release a BC list before launch.  Its like a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get.  Oh yeah, motorstorm wont save PS3.  Not even Resistance could save the PS3.

1. I'll give you that. Sony did great in Europe. Its time for them to prove it again. 2. Wrong. Wii games: € 34,99 to € 59,99 XBox360 games: € 29,99 to € 59,99 Ps3 games: € 49,99 to € 69,99 Which makes Ps3 games most expensive. These are the dutch numbers though. 3. Wii didn't ship great numbers on launch day but they are shipping massive ammounts now. Demand is still high. 4. Well € 599,99 is A LOT to me. And I'm sure to everyone else. 5. Perhaps 6. They will when they keep reading how sony keeps screwing us. 7. € 599,99 ZOMG!!11eleven Oh and by the way can I rent your crystal ball? Mine broke :(

PS3_FTW

The flipside may occur, because maybe.......just maybe........the PSP delay, Sony suing over PSP imports, the PS3 delay, Sony suing over PS3 imports, and now the lack of backwards compatible games compared to other regions, may have ticked many Europeans off?

PS3 may not dominate anything. Abuse your customers and fans enough and they will eventually drop you.

We do actually buy a greater proportion of british games than anywhere else in the world. Resistance is not a British game however. It was developed by Americans in America and the main protaganist is American.

It just happens to be set in Britain and lots of British soldiers are routinely blown to pieces by aliens whilst the one solo American saves the day.

Oh the appeal!:o

That's just like saying some British guy/gal would buy Little Britain the game over Halo.

Here is some 2004/2005 per capita income info pertaining to item number 4 on PS3_FTW's excellent, well thought out post: Country, 2004, 2005, Rank Luxembourg 56380 65630 1 Norway 51810 59590 2 Switzerland 49600 54930 3 Denmark 40750 47390 4 Iceland 37920 46320 5 United States 41440 43740 6 Sweden 35840 41060 7 Ireland 34310 40150 8 Japan 37050 38980 9 United Kingdom 33630 37600 10 Finland 32880 37460 11 Austria 32280 36980 12 *Luxembourg's top ranking results from the fact that a proportion of its workforce live in neighbouring countries and are not counted as residents of Luxembourg. The source is www.finfacts.com. This is just info on per capita income. I'm sure that there are dozens of other variables to consider in addition to income, but I've wasted enough time questioning a ps3_ftw post :)

Wrong

2. PS3 games are CHEAPER than 360 and Wii games in Europe, at only £40, while Wii games are £50 and 360 games are £60

Not true either. Only because someone in UK said that the PS3 games are cheaper there doesn't that mean it's cheaper in whole Europe. UK is just 50 million of the 710 million people living in Europe.

3. 1 million PS3s are being shipped to the UK alone on launch day. A reason Wii sales are starting to dwindle is because people are fed up with waiting to get one, this will not be the case with PS3, it will be easy to get, attracting casuals

It's 1 million units for whole Europe. Wii is still selling out.

4. On average Europeans earn more money than Americans, so $600 seems like nothing to them

PS3 costs $950 in Sweden.

5. RFoM is a Brittish game with Brittish voice acting. UK gamers will see this and will like the game

Don't think so.

6. Seing as though most Europeans own a PS2 and PS1, they will not be put down by the slightly worst BC

Most people are already pissed because of the price.

7. Only the 60GB model will be available there, so Sony wont have to waste time making 2 kinds, meaning more supply.

We'll see.

This is ridiculous. First off, America is still the richest country in the WHOLE world. We make the most money, we have the highest consumer benefits, companies always ship to us, and we have the least corrupt government (well, not maybe LEAST corrupt now that we have Bush running the US :)). I don't see how Europeans make more money that US citizens. princeofshapeir

Offtopic here, but I never quite understood why the richest country in the world never seemed to be thinking about making a good insurance plan. Our insurance here is pretty much free. If I go outside and get hit by a bus I'll just lose a couple of days of my life spending in the hospital. That's pretty much it. No payment whatsoever.

For all you're lack of evidence or proof this reason still bugs me the most. How Resistance will sell in the UK remains to be seen, but I would hope that the fellas across the pond will not be stupuid enough to buy a game based on the voice acting.

You know, this kid gets owned hard for every post he makes.  I just feel sorry for him.  Maybe he is a "special" kid.  I'm being serious.  Maybe he just doesn't know better.  I have a hard time believing anyone can be that blind of a fanboy without having some sort of mental impairment.  Perhaps we should just ignore him instead of pointing out how absurd he is for pages and pages?

1. Sony consoles ALWAYS sell best in Europe. In UK PSP is beating DS, and Europe bought the most PS2s, more than US

That's a logical fallacy. Things change; you cannot assume the Sony brand will always remain dominant because it has won two rounds in the past. When the first playstation launched, many assumed it would fail because Nintendo "always" won up until that point.

2. PS3 games are CHEAPER than 360 and Wii games in Europe, at only £40, while Wii games are £50 and 360 games are £60

I have a hard time believing that. Care to offer some proof?

3. 1 million PS3s are being shipped to the UK alone on launch day. A reason Wii sales are starting to dwindle is because people are fed up with waiting to get one, this will not be the case with PS3, it will be easy to get, attracting casuals

A lot of consoles being shipped is not a sign of victory. It takes a lot more than the first batch being sold to make a console the victor. In terms of world-wide sells, the wii is actually doing better (though that could possibly change).

4. On average Europeans earn more money than Americans, so $600 seems like nothing to them

Europe is a pretty big place. Last time I checked, parts of it had significantly lower pay than America, while others are about the same. I'm sure some Europeans make more than some Americans, but such gaps can be found within any of the better-off nations. You seem to be thinking more specifically about England than Europe as a whole.

I've seen plenty of American-made games fail within their own country. It will sell or fail because of other factors.

6. Seing as though most Europeans own a PS2 and PS1, they will not be put down by the slightly worst BC

Again, Sony's past success does not make them immune to future failures.

7. Only the 60GB model will be available there, so Sony wont have to waste time making 2 kinds, meaning more supply.

While the 60GB model is superior, it being the only model released will not make or break the system. Even if both models were released, those who wanted the 6GB one would merely wait until they could get one (which wouldn't be that long).

wow

I don't think you manage to get one thing right. For instance 360 games are not £60. More like $40. Wii games aren't more expensive either. And $800-1000 is a lot of money, especially for a gaming console. The 360 is $300-450 less.

1. Sony consoles ALWAYS sell best in Europe. In UK PSP is beating DS, and Europe bought the most PS2s, more than USPS3_FTW

First of all, past performance is not indicitive of future performance. Sega dominated Europe in the 8 and 16-bit era. Yet the Saturn and Dreamcast crashed and burned. Secondly, you are incorrect abot the sales figures of the PSP and DS. The DS is, like pretty much everywhere else, selling more than the PSP. Also, according to Sony, there are more PS2's in the US than in Europe.

2. PS3 games are CHEAPER than 360 and Wii games in Europe, at only £40, while Wii games are £50 and 360 games are £60PS3_FTW

No they aren't. PS3 games have been confirmed at £39.99 for first party games. It might not be the case for third party games, but assuming it is, 360 games sell for £39.99, or £44.99, with Special Editions costing £49.99 Wii games are priced at £24.99 for budget titles, £34.99 for Nintendo titles, and £39.99 for some third party games.

3. 1 million PS3s are being shipped to the UK alone on launch day. A reason Wii sales are starting to dwindle is because people are fed up with waiting to get one, this will not be the case with PS3, it will be easy to get, attracting casualsPS3_FTW

Incorrect on both counts. 220,000 units will be coming to the UK. 1 million is the number going to the PAL region as a whole. Also, Wii sales are not dwindling. It's in short supply, but as soon as the units get into stores, an hour later they have left them. Demand for the Wii has left stores bemused, since it was assumed that by mid febuary, it would have died down, and be readily available. This is not the case.

4. On average Europeans earn more money than Americans, so $600 seems like nothing to themPS3_FTW

Thats laughable. $600 is a hell of alot to the average European. However £425 ($833) is even more expenisve.

5. RFoM is a Brittish game with Brittish voice acting. UK gamers will see this and will like the gamePS3_FTW

Resistance is an American game set in Britain. We are treated to a spectacle that displays the British as rubbish, who need to be saved by a superhuman American. Awesome...

6. Seing as though most Europeans own a PS2 and PS1, they will not be put down by the slightly worst BCPS3_FTW

Quite alot of PS2's have been traded in. Sony's have suggested that the backwards compatability will be alot more than simply 'slightly worse'.

7. Only the 60GB model will be available there, so Sony wont have to waste time making 2 kinds, meaning more supply.PS3_FTW

Theoretically, but the lack of a cheaper entry also possibly harms sales.

PS3_FTW

As a resident of the UK I feel obliged to thwart your nonsensical arguments:

1. Complacency is not advised, nothing remains indefinitely. Firstly the DS is beating the PSP in terms of sales in the UK, secondly you would be surprised at the amount of anti-PS3 anger in terms of inflated price, delays and botched backwards compatability. 'Hardcore' gamers who are the most likely prospect for the PS3 are up-in-arms over the latest abuse of the European fanbase.

2. The RRP for Wii games in the UK is £35, the 360 varies between £40-50 and the PS3 is the most expensive at a uniform £50. Complete and utter lies on your part.

3. I am unsure of the validity of that figure but I highly doubt 1 million PS3s will be coming to the UK alone at launch, if they do then they will certainly be stuck on shop shelves or in the warehouse for a considerable amount of time. You overestimate the long-term demand of the PS3, the early adopters will be 'hardcore' gamers, technophiles and those whipped up in the media hype and misinformation about the power of the machine and the benefits of Blu-Ray.

4.Whilst Europeans do earn more than Americans in general you have to realise the cost of living is higher and the price of the PS3 is grossly inflated, in the UK the price would amount to around $800.

5. Such a token feature is of no import whatsoever.

6. As I mentioned earlier many gamers are incensed by the sub-par backwards compatability in addition to other Euro-specific mistreatment. I presume those who buy a PS3 whilst unaware of this trickery will also be infuriated, many who bought a PS2, in the UK at least, did so for games such as DDR, Buzz or Singstar. When they realise that they may be unable to break-out these party games on the PS3 they will be sorely disappointed.

7. What is supply if there is no real demand to meet it? A 20GB model could take two routes, the same road as the Core 360 which is largely seen as watered-down and a waste of money or alternatively it could be seen as an affordable version of a ridiculously overpriced console.

WRONG! 360 games range from £40-£50, Wii from £30-£40, and PS3 games cost the same or more as 360 games

3. 1 million PS3s are being shipped to the UK alone on launch day. A reason Wii sales are starting to dwindle is because people are fed up with waiting to get one, this will not be the case with PS3, it will be easy to get, attracting casuals

The reason they're not selling is because there aren't any to buy. The demand's that high.

4. On average Europeans earn more money than Americans, so $600 seems like nothing to them

We have to pay $850 if you didn't know.

5. RFoM is a Brittish game with Brittish voice acting. UK gamers will see this and will like the game

Coronation Street is the longest running soap-opera ever, and it's British, so I guess everyone loves it, right?

6. Seing as though most Europeans own a PS2 and PS1, they will not be put down by the slightly worst BC

a) Learn your grammaras. Thems bad wid no grammors

b) Every casual I know who has owned a PS2 is turning to the 360. They simply don't care for the PS3's hefty price tag.

7. Only the 60GB model will be available there, so Sony wont have to waste time making 2 kinds, meaning more supply.

Yeah, so we have to pay full price
