i have enough money to buy either consoles (PS3/Xbox360) and i realise that i have to pay to play online on the 360 ......so my question is , why is it worth paying ?

What will I get from xbox live that i wont get with PSN ?

(please dont tell me stuff about connetions with friends cuz non of my friends are 360 users)

I would stick with PSN. XBL has more features than PSN, but PSN will get the same features from updates for free. Why pay just to play online? Pay to play online? lol

So you already have a 360 and you're considering selling it to possibly buy another 360? I'm confused.

Also, the price difference between the two consoles is so much that you can get up to 2-4 years of Live and a 360 for the price of a PS3.

Yes it is actually, Imo your console choice should come down to hardware/games rather than paying for online, but that's just me :P

Ignoring the fact that XBL has more features and MS has done a supremely better job of thinking the service through, you may have answered your own question in your first post. If none of your friends have 360s, then maybe you should get a PS3.

When? Next week? Next month? A year from now? The PS3 has been out years now man, and these mythical updates havent come outside of XMB and a minor trophy update.

Recently a mate of mine bought a ps3, so naturally I went over to his house to chech out the rumored beast of a ps3. After we messed around with it for a bit we wanted to download the new naruto demo.

First the system needed to be updated (cant remember which update) which took us ages to do. It was downloading slow as hell and get this, it came up with sytems errors 3 times, meaning we had to re-download the whole thing 3 times.

Finally, after allot of swearing it was finally updated so we started downloading the demo. The naruto demo is just over 500 megs, which takes about 40 min on the 360. After about half and hour we were on 30 percent for the demo.... guess what happend?

Error code some thing or the other, pls contact blah blah blah. Eventually we just gave up and never downloaded anything.

Before you say it is his internet speed, he has a 360 as well and it downloads and updates very smoothly. The reason you pay for live is because you get what you pay for. With all the money sony is loosing with the ps3 it is impossible for them to keep a high quality psn. You can not have a good online service if you cant afford to maintain it properly, simple as.

Not any more...there is hardly any difference between Live and PSN. Live makes you pay for everything, customization, themes, gamer pics. I can get that all for free on PSN and still have the same great online experience.

I don't think paying a one-time $50 charge once a year is bad personally. I mean, I would expect this to be pocket change to the hardcore cows in SW, especially since:

1. They all seem to own HDTV's (Because playing PS3 on a SDTV is just being mean to yourself)

2. They all seem to own High-End PCs (They don't have 360's because they can play the superior version of the games whenever)

3. They bought a PS3. Unless you stole it, bought it online or off the street, or bought it used you paid at least $300-400 for it.

I wanted the best Sony had to offer, so I forked over $500 to get the best setup available. Same with my 360. Bottom line is there are a LOT of people who sit on here and brag about how they have the best of everything, yet nearly have a stroke about having the OPTION to pay for a service that has and is for the moment the superior of the three console online services. You don't have to have it.

well if you had a 360 you'd know you get a free month of live, as well as some games come with a free month. so make your own informed decision.

The most common mistake made by cows, if you ask me, is to think PSN is the same as Xbox Live without ever having experience Live themselves. It's why so many ask as you are, "what makes it better?" because they believe PSN is pretty much as good as online can get.

The biggest difference is the interface and speed. Take the NHL 09 Demo for example. I downloaded the demo for both my PS3 and my 360. The 360 demo took 22 minutes to download and play, while the PS3 took 4 hours to download and then another few minutes to install. I'm not saying that this is worth $50, but it is a big difference. Secondly, Xbox live is just a more intituative way to play online than PSN. I think it's great that PSN is free, but I don't mind paying $50 for much better online experience. Not only that, but Xbox live just seems more exciting than PSN. People are always on, alsmost everyone uses a headset, you get a wide variety of people, and it just seems like there is more to do. I would gladly ay $50 for PSN to never have to update my PS3 with it's current system. With the 360 an update takes seconds and you're back playing. With the PS3 it can sometimes take hours. The biggest difference is that within my group of gamers it seems like everyone buys and plays online games on their 360. This might not be true for everyone, but if the game is multi-plat and online I would never even consider buying it on the PS3 because in the end more people will be playing that game on their 360's.

true, but who's to say Microsoft won't keep adding more features? anything is possible. Sony might always have to play catch up. maybe it will happen, maybe it won't. either way this is getting old already.

just enjoy games people.

Sorry. I don't subcribe to the Sony mantra of "just wait". If XBL has it now, I'm all for it. And just as PSN will eventually get those features, XBL will continue to evolve.

Everything to me seems more uniform, streamlined, and consistant on XBL. Especially when it comes to managing friend and game invites and chat sessions. On XBL, I can be playing a completely different game than my friend, but still have a chat session initiated with him. A mutual friend can then send an invite to both of us for yet a different game and we can all be joined up in a matter of a few minutes, while still keeping the same chat session going. This is just one example of why I enjoy XBL.

That's not accurate at all. Customization, themes and gamerpics are FREE. There are those that do cost, but plenty that won't cost you anything. Additionally, XBL has:

  • Infrastructure that allows the community to self-govern with:
    • Gamer zone
    • Rep
    • Prefer/avoid
    • Feedback- monitored by an international team who randomly join sessions to police the online experience
  • 2 levels of matchmaking:
    • Preference-based with the features listed above
    • Skill-based using the proprietary TruSkill system
  • Functional cross-game invite system that brings you straight into a friend's session
  • Closed, secure network that actively checks for modded consoles
  • Compared to the competition, MS seems to be the best connected to its community
    • There are publicly visible MS personnel dedicated to the Xbox Live community like Major Nelson and Trixie
    • They have Ambassador and Community Developer Programs. See the gamercards in our sigs? MS didn'make those. But they do have their programmers help community sites.
    • Community Calendar with Ladies Night, Prime Time and Family Game Night, Play with Devs, Game With Fame

On top of that, XBL is much more integrated with Xbox.com Full profile pages that allow you to manage your friends, messages and your account info from the web. So whether by MSN Messenger or through Xbox.com, I can still chat with friends logged onto XBL while I'm not on my 360.

Not any more...there is hardly any difference between Live and PSN. Live makes you pay for everything, customization, themes, gamer pics. I can get that all for free on PSN and still have the same great online experience.

Bro, I have seen you post this a dozen times or more. You should know by now that no one is going to respond to it. They never do. It is always overlooked for some strange reason.

Do me a favor TC and dont move to the U.S. This country is already filled with stupid people that cant make up their own minds. You already sound like a PS3 head so dump your 360 in a river and get a PS3 so I will never have to hear you on XBL.

Whew... I thought it was just me that noticed that. For a while I thought that GS was just glitching and no on saw it.

As long as people keep asking the question, I'll keep posting it. It's painfully obvious that the repitition is needed.

Besides, I just added the Xbox.com integration bit. I think people take that for granted.

Well the reason this information is overlooked is because some people choose to think that XBL is only about playing games online. It goes a little further than that. Much more of a coherent community than PSN.
