Well the reason this information is overlooked is because some people choose to think that XBL is only about playing games online. It goes a little further than that. Much more of a coherent community than PSN.

lespaul00

That's exactly right. I've always thought that the gaming experience extends outside the confines of any game. "Gaming" is about playing games, yes, but also about staying connected to the gaming community. XBL does this very well while leaving much more room for improvement.

MS's holistic approach to Xbox Live is what drives the online console space... maybe it's a little too forward thinking for those mentally stuck in traditional console conventions. It's very clear that Sony just doesn't get it yet.

Xbox Live will be free soon mark my word. Right now the service is in the perfect position to make lots of advertisement revenue. Maybe something will happen when they launch the new dash.

[QUOTE="NSR34GTR"]you get what you pay forlespaul00

Not any more...there is hardly any difference between Live and PSN. Live makes you pay for everything, customization, themes, gamer pics. I can get that all for free on PSN and still have the same great online experience.

That's not accurate at all. Customization, themes and gamerpics are FREE. There are those that do cost, but plenty that won't cost you anything. Additionally, XBL has:

  • Infrastructure that allows the community to self-govern with:
    • Gamer zone
    • Rep
    • Prefer/avoid
    • Feedback- monitored by an international team who randomly join sessions to police the online experience
  • 2 levels of matchmaking:
    • Preference-based with the features listed above
    • Skill-based using the proprietary TruSkill system
  • Functional cross-game invite system that brings you straight into a friend's session
  • Closed, secure network that actively checks for modded consoles
  • Compared to the competition, MS seems to be the best connected to its community
    • There are publicly visible MS personnel dedicated to the Xbox Live community like Major Nelson and Trixie
    • They have Ambassador and Community Developer Programs. See the gamercards in our sigs? MS didn'make those. But they do have their programmers help community sites.
    • Community Calendar with Ladies Night, Prime Time and Family Game Night, Play with Devs, Game With Fame

On top of that, XBL is much more integrated with Xbox.com Full profile pages that allow you to manage your friends, messages and your account info from the web. So whether by MSN Messenger or through Xbox.com, I can still chat with friends logged onto XBL while I'm not on my 360.

Bro, I have seen you post this a dozen times or more. You should know by now that no one is going to respond to it. They never do. It is always overlooked for some strange reason.

Whew... I thought it was just me that noticed that. For a while I thought that GS was just glitching and no on saw it.

As long as people keep asking the question, I'll keep posting it. It's painfully obvious that the repitition is needed.

Besides, I just added the Xbox.com integration bit. I think people take that for granted.

Well the reason this information is overlooked is because some people choose to think that XBL is only about playing games online. It goes a little further than that. Much more of a coherent community than PSN.

Sorry for the wall of quotes, but you hit it on the head as far as I'm concerned. PSN is about playing online, XBL is about community. It does so much more....and there's even more coming in the Fall update....including the ability to download marketplace items from your computer (while you're at work, school, whatever) directly to your 360 so that it's there when you get home....

lol, thats what I get for assuming!(it did sound harsh but I didn't have an option to put one of those smiley faces so I guess I came out pretty harsh, sorry!) usually when someone owes someone else money its usually cause they borrowed, again I'm assuming. anyway, no its not the biggest waste of money, anything you spend money on and enjoy it is not a waste of money, maybe for other people, but who are they to judge us how we spend money. some people collect stamps, hey if thats how you spend money, enjoy, I wouldn't do it, but you know what I mean.

besides its 50 bucks a year, is it really that painful to pay 50? I understand the principle behind it, I don't want to pay 50 a year, but god almighty I'm wouldn't bash other people who do it.

next time you go to your friends house, take something hostage. take the 360 and tell him to pay you back or you will leave it on until it RROD's (I still can't put a smiley face, is that just me? I don't see any of the little faces anymore)

The $50. a year for PSN is charged on your electric bill. The PS3 is an electric hog. By buying a 360 you get the superior library of games with superior online and smaller electric bill.

I'm selling my 360 and going to live in the us .

i have enough money to buy either consoles (PS3/Xbox360) and i realise that i have to pay to play online on the 360 ......so my question is , why is it worth paying ?

CubanBlunt

So you already have a 360 and you're considering selling it to possibly buy another 360? I'm confused.

Also, the price difference between the two consoles is so much that you can get up to 2-4 years of Live and a 360 for the price of a PS3.

Sorry homie, it will only get you 1 year.

Uh...someone hasn't done his math right.

Xbox 360 Pro: $299

2 years of Xbox Live: $98

Total: $397

Cost of 80 GB PS3: $399

All I want to do is play games with my friends/family members and try out demos.

Wow I can do that for free on PSN as well as browse the net, buy PSN games, download movie trailers, chat with people for free.

Thats all I need.

You obviously havent been here very long. The amount of times its been shown why XBL is better than PSN is actually sickening. Personally im bored of it, there should be a sticky for this listing all the reasons why XBL is better than PSN and leave it at that.

Well since we're playing the "Lets add accessories to the price of the Xbox 360 to make it seem more expensive than the PS3" game, let me take a whack at it.

HDMI cable: (since the PS3 doesn't come with any HD cables) $90

52" 1080p LCD TV: $3000 (can't watch all those 1080p Blu Ray movies on a 720p TV, no sir!)

Annual Qore subscription: $25

Man, sounds like one expensive purchase overall. It's a shame PS3 fans are forced to buy all of this.

Oh wait, they're not. So why are 360 fans suddenly required to buy every accessory available for the system?

That's such a poor attempt. What the 360 don't offer is standard on other consoles like built-in wifi.

If XBL goes free I will flip my grid, it has the right balance just now... a free month to start with and test, if you dont like it then dont pay, I certainly don't want my gaming experience ruined by people that want to freeload game, than serious game. Look at the neogafs forums, you need a payed email to grind out the dross from joining. XBL is the same.

I haven't tried PSN so I wouldn't know how to properly judge, but seriously, short of EVERYONE boycotting XBL they will still milk us, and it REALLY doesn't kill you to pay the fee. AND most of XBL's best features are free. (well, no gold membership required that is)

Online on 360 and and the wireless device sitll makes it more expensive.

goodgunda

Again, optional. No Xbox 360 owner is ever require to buy any of those accessories.

That's such a poor attempt. What the 360 don't offer is standard on other consoles like built-in wifi.

dark-warmachine

Still doesn't make it a requirement in any stretch of the word. It's as optional as all of the things I listed for the PS3.

Roofles at the people saying wi-fi should be standard in all consoles, when no one in their right mind would choose it over a direct ethernet connection.

HDMI cable: (since the PS3 doesn't come with any HD cables) $90

The_Game21x

That's about 61 USD too much....

Optional?! Then add $7 for AA batteries for every week

-RROD-

WHAT?!

360 controllers use AA batteries???

Not any more...there is hardly any difference between Live and PSN. Live makes you pay for everything, customization, themes, gamer pics. I can get that all for free on PSN and still have the same great online experience.

"Live makes you pay for everything" ..? rofl. First of all, MS doesn't make you do anything. Second, there's a ton of free stuff and you can always upload your own themes. I can't say for sure what things XBL does that PSN cannot (i suggest you do the same since you don't know what you're talking about) but i can tell you that XBL does everything better (updates are more frequent, voice communication, matchmaking, player control and filter system, more marketplace content, more in-game features and more games that make use of these features etc.)

Also, cows used the "just wait for the next firmware update" excuse plenty of times. What's your excuse now when XBL is getting the Fall Dashboard update?

DUDE.

1)That thread was made by one of the biggest lemmings on SW.

2)All he did was post all the positive things and upcoming features of Live and all the negative things about PSN.

i've been an XBL user since it first launched on in 2002 and i only had one game at the time(an football game..i forget the name). once i started getting more games and found more friends..game invite's became god's gift to gaming for me. :) it was just the feeling of not having to do much after accepting the friend request and putting the game in the disc tray.

so for me, game invites is a nice feature to have.

I'm not paying for XBL but I'm still using it. Downloads are cool and I can chat with my friends. But if you're deciding on playing online a lot, then I would say PSN as I wouldn't pay either. Why should I when other systems do it for free?

I have a 360, and I have tried Live before. I also have a PS3, and what do I like to do with online games? Play online of course. The PS3 lets you do that for free, while I need to pay for Live? I'll stick with PSN from now on.

well all the online ps3 games suck... thats why. Metal gear is the only worthy game to play that is exclusive. Yeah they have GT4 but forza 3 will be even better.

Xbox Live has a lot better community when it comes to playing multiplayer games from my experience. That's pretty much the main reason for paying the $50. But, I don't pay for Gold because... I don't really play multiplayer games. So, I just use Silver which gives me everything Gold has but the ability to play online.

you'll get a service that doesn't lag, access to hundreds of free demo's and other free downloads. Other than that there really is no point in paying for xbox live. Do what you want but overall the xbox games library is still alot better than the ps3's...something you might wanna think about before buying a ps3

Also if you cant pay 5 bucks a month then you shouldn't be buying a ps3 or xbox 360... Im in the "lower class" and i can still afford it.....AND

there are more and better exclusive games for the 360. and more Higher rated games for the 360.

Pretty much what I was thinking and beside I can't affod it because of college tuition. You should really get the PS3 since none of your friends are 360 owners.

It's a good question. Most of the games I have are on the 360. I have to renew my account come october. Will I pay for another year now that I have a PS3 and free online? ABSOLUTELY!!! XBL just feels so much better.
