Why Should Uncharted2 even win GOTY??

I recently went to a couple of electronic stores and walmarts and I noticed games like the new Mario game ,MW2, and ODST were all sold out, yet in every store I went too, I saw a bunch of Uncharted2 copies just sitting there, WTF......I thought GOTY games were massive hits in sales and in quality, and we all know UC2 has quality on lock but is lacking in overal public appeal!

I think if sales should/would be counted than this title should be awarded to MW2 , even though I hate Activision, those sales are mindblowing :shock:

To me it seems like just another third person shooter/platformer.

Everyone praises ONE THING.

The graphics of course.

Sales don't determine GOTY. Popularity and appeald etermines sales, two elements that don't factor into the quality of a game.

GOTY is not judge by the sales but by how good it is.

No it won't. There are so many games that came out after MW2 that are much, much better than it. Don't forget the ones that came before it this year too..

Simple, unlike say high school for example, game of the year isn't a popularity contest. The best game wins, not the one that the most people buy. FYI, people don't buy games in large quantities with the idea that its the best game of the year, they most likely don't care.

If you play the game you'd know exactly whyit isthe #1 runner up for Game of The Year...but its obviously the latter in your case.

Because UC2 was all hype. No one cared, but Sony kept plugging at the exclusive because it's 'what we got' The exclusives are increasing, but none of them have even come close to finding a niche like Halo did, which is why people say KZ2 is this much better than that, or MGS4 is better than this because it's 'what we got' None of them will hit the niche.HavocV3

The hype ws Uncharted 2 would be a great game. It obtained that praise. The idea that a PS3 exclusive must hit Halo numbers is insane. Should I just start holding every game to pokemone standards now? "The 360 will not be good enough until it has a game that sells like pokemon". Do u know how silly this argument sounds?

Exclusives don't sell as well as multiplats. If Uncharted 2 was on the PS3, 360, PC, and Wii, it would sell A LOT more than it does just on the PS3. You can't even deny that Uncharted 2 is a high quality game and is worthy of GOTY

I got the Kanye reference (I'd have to be living under a rock not too lol) but the idea is always brought up that Wii fit is some piece of trash because it isn't some multi million dollar epic game. I dislike that reasoning, it is a solid game, it shouldn't be treated as lesser because it doesn't appeal to gamespotters.

Im sure i admire the graphics...alot. But the gameplay, the scripting, the voice acting, the story line are just as good. Plus with an added mp, i mean its a good package. My favourite game so far, even more than mw2.

Ucharted 2 is good but Modern Warfare2 will be GOTY 2009, it is even best game ever made and best selling game on top of that :D

It was 6 million at the begining 0f 2009...if we go by VG charts [yes I know :roll:]and they haven't updated its sales numbers for the PS3 version since last year. Is currently listed as 5.98...a 1 and almost a half year old number. So go figure.

GTA is well known on the PS brand. And it launched in the begining of 2008...by now PS3 console sales have done nothing but increased in overall sales.

But of course this is VGCharts...

You should consider alot of things like the total user base of the PS3 in NA, marketing, brand name for a game like COD, Mario, and Halo.

We are talking about the 6th call of duty game, the 1m mario game and the 4th Halo game.

Sales doesn't always determine quality,McDonald's sells millions of meals everyday I don't remember someone calling them quality, they taste good, thats all.

The game's total sales as of Jan 2009 was 13m so if we go according to to the userbase of both consoles worldwide, 5M-5.5M for the PS3 and 7.5m-8m for the 360, this is my guesstimate.

Cool story except MW2 got a 9.0 here and Uncharted 2 got a 9.5. So there's pretty much zero chance MW2 gets GOTY on gamespot.

And Gamenrakings has Uncharted 2 at 96.20% versus MW2 at 93.30% (for 360). a 3% difference is pretty big on gamerankings.
