I been readin' around and seeing that everyone's hating on modern warfare 2... Why? CoD4 was a great game, what'd I miss, did they take the multiplayer out or something? If it's the price issue, does the price going up make the game bad?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
It's basically Activision hate, no matter how good the game might be. Who wants to support them, not me.
Its not "Modern Warfare 2," its just Modern Warfare with some new maps. Its exactly like Guitar Hero getting a new song list every year (now, its every few months). Everyone should hate MW2 and Activision, they are killing gaming.
Well if you're gonna buy it I would suggest buying it used and not new.Ah so it's pretty much anti - activision. Got it. Yeah that is some BS bout upping the prices, but I'll still buy it. I do agree about the guitar hero thing, man did that franchise go downhill after the 2nd one.

Agreed, same old same old, and it may be doing good financial business for some but as a whole it's just promoting shallow lifeless gaming run by super companies that don't give a rats ass about gamers. Its not "Modern Warfare 2," its just Modern Warfare with some new maps. Now it could be a copy paste, but I'm waiting on more footage of the single-player to judge that. I'll wait until later to say whether or not Infinity Ward was simply lying about their enviorments being more sandbox-like and less linear, which don't funnel the player past invisible triggers and respawning enemies, etc.
I still contend that the MW1 engine has probably receieved a lot of tweaks in the two years that Infinity Ward has had.
I'm not ready to completely throw MW2's multiplayer on the spike just yet. I do see an issue with it like the patronizing amount of points apparently given out for single kills. But it was W@W that was the unwelcome completely uninspired copy-and-paste job. Perhaps there is something deeper behing this game's multiplayer.
Now anything you have to say against Activision... yeah I can't argue with that.

60 Dollars for a PC game. That's what pushed me over the edge from thinking this was just "meh, don't care" to "what is happening to gaming?".
Maybe, but should we see the final version or just jump right to that conclusion? The short vid I've seen of MP looks great, lots of new things brought to the table. I can understand the hate towards Activision, but IW has made (arguably) the best shooter of this gen and deserve some credit. I'm buying Prestige ed. of MW:2 without a doubt... but yah, the whole "map pack" thing is getting real old real fast - can't really hate, all shooters are doing it and the reason is people keep buying them. Its not "Modern Warfare 2," its just Modern Warfare with some new maps. All joking aside its mainly Activision who is going out of their way to make everyone hate them.
SAGE_OF_FIRE
I agree with Sage along with the fact that I find it to be just the kind of "high quality" game that gets a little too much credit. It shouldnt take away from its appeal but quite frankly it does. in the end, it feels like just one more shooter that trys to stand out but really doesnt no matter how flashy.
Long lasting appeal with these types of games never last in my book. 2-3 months and its a dust collector. This is all IMO though and I dont expect or wouldnt want anyone else to follow along with that. Im going to attempt to rent it though. First rental in months? years?
Edit: What I said reminds me of Kz2. Oddly enough I liked it. I guess its just the animations and online chaos. Oh well, pick and choose.

I have never liked CoD games. I'm more of an operation flashpoint type of guy. But i will have to say that it looks just like the last one with nothing new. I really don't care how good the original was, if there isn't anything new than I don't want it.
I'm with you there brother, I have no plans of buy MW2 however I've already preordered & paid for Operation Flashpoint. Personally, I see very little besides a few improvements. Stuff that could be DLC probably. I've lost my taste for shooters this gen. There are too many and the ones worth playing are few and far between. I want a memorable experience from a game, not the flavor of the month.

Tactical and team based shooters for the win. Realism is the way to go.

This is exactly why Activision knows they can jack up prices for games. That have some "good games" under their belt, and believe they can charge more. I used to hate EA and Ubisoft, but my hatred has shifted to Activision (except I still hate Ubisoft, stupid Prince of Persia  )
i enjoyed cod 4 single player but thats it,i dont like multiplayer,i think i will enjoy mw2 single player too,but what activision doing is bad for gaming, things as same series games every year, pricing against the consumer that could other companies take too if succesfull, crap dlc that could be in the disk in the first place but they are too greedy and want more money.
seriusly many worship the cod series and guitar hero and other activision games and think they are one of the best developers.....,how can they ?especially the pricing part has left me furius, what if it ends up succesful cause of some bots and we see other companies too take it?this is what the industry wants, more expensive games ?they tricked the people with dlc to squeez their money isnt that enough?
after activision my hate this gen goes to capcom ,a great old company that turned to trash now, releasing re5 as a hd re4 didnt really matter to me cause i liked it but putting containts that should be in the game as dlc and charge for it was very crappy of capcom to do,i wont even start where did sf4 went wrong ( for dlc ).also they said that they wont be making any rpgs cause their development costs so much.......i want a new breath of fire you %@#$%^& ,but why should you make it?people will still buy this guitar hero and everyday shooter n192349 and will leave the good games aside....
Its going to be a great game, can't wait. CoD4 is my favourite fps atm, and ive played all the greats.Arjdagr8
I feel the same way man, and reallly know what you are talking about being a rpg fanatic. As for Capcom, I would love some MegaMan Legends, but that will never happen as that is too rpg like, making monster hunter 3 for the wii instead of the ps3 because it cost less..bah... what happened to wanting to push technology or pushing your game as far as it can go? I miss the days of ps1 where we had great rpgs and unique games left and right. The downlaodable space on psn has left me with a lot of unique titles, but the rpg genre this gen is horrible! As for Activision, they will eventually get what is coming to them. People used to hate on EA, but it seems like since the arsehat Don Matrox got fired and went to MS, and John Richetello, took over EA they have been rising the bar on great releases and letting devs have some freedom. Dead space and mirrors edge were great and I can't wait for Brutal legends and Dragon AGE (it better be like bauldurs gate bioware!!!!). The problem is there will always be the casual fratboy/ teenager that doesn't look at game forums, is a trend follower buys all the halo and guitar hereo games and will pick up MW2 without question, because everyone else is doing it.i enjoyed cod 4 single player but thats it,i dont like multiplayer,i think i will enjoy mw2 single player too,but what activision doing is bad for gaming, things as same series games every year, pricing against the consumer that could other companies take too if succesfull, crap dlc that could be in the disk in the first place but they are too greedy and want more money.

i personally liked CoD4, take out Juggernaught, Stopping Power, Martrydom and kill streak rewards and it would be in my top 5favorite games.
Seriously. The Stalingrad level of the first CoD alone was better than the entirety of CoD4.[QUOTE="Verge_6"]

One of my most memorable gaming moments, getting the measly stripper clip of ammo. Sure, the first few minutes of that level were taken straight from Enemy at the Gates, but it was amazing nonetheless. In the film, where you see all those guys in line straining for a rifle so they didn't get to be the ones who "Follow the man with the rifle until he gets killed"....yeah, I was frantically trying to get my character ahead so I could get one. The despair I felt when I didn't get it...[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]

Yep this is what I was thinking cod1,2,5 (skipped 3), halo series, half life series, crysis, counter strike, css, cs condition zero, left 4 dead, team fortress 2, quake, doom, final doom, doom 3, far cry (the last half of this game is absolutely horrid), far cry instincts, killzone 2, killzone(this game was pretty boring compared to killzone 2). I might have missed some but these are what i can think of from the top of my head. Be it multiplayer or singleplayer, cod4 is my favourite.[QUOTE="SAGE_OF_FIRE"]

aw cringe? lol. whats up? I mean, most of those games i liked. Half Life 2 episode 2 would be right behind cod4 for my favourite single player and css or left 4 dead would be behind it for multiplayer. But CoD4, I just loved the scripted moments and the take on modern warfare and its addictive multiplayer. You guys will probably mock me, but tbh, i don't really care too much, i just hope i've convinced you that im not actually talking out of my backside.cod1,2,5 (skipped 3), halo series, half life series, crysis, counter strike, css, cs condition zero, left 4 dead, team fortress 2, quake, doom, final doom, doom 3, far cry (the last half of this game is absolutely horrid), far cry instincts, killzone 2, killzone(this game was pretty boring compared to killzone 2). Also please don't accuse me of lying, its really annoying.
I think it's funny that people are hating the game just because of Activision and I also think it's funny that people are saying it's just the same as the first when there isn't even a lot of info on the game yet.
Everyone thinks about the Multiplayer and not even about the single player. Although the Multi is probably the only reason people would buy it, without it, it would suck.
I hate it because 50 cent has a cameo voice in the MP.. Makes me not want to even try the game (cringe)

I will not be giving craptiviosion the support. ... but I feel that the average player of COD is a casual frat boy type gamer who doesn't go to game forums, probably just picks it up because its "popular" and will not even know who activision is or what they do...so they will get money from that crowd no matter what.
This is exactly what happens. Playing CoD is "in" just like GH and games like that. I was referred to as a "geek" for playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma, by some people I work with that strictly play CoD4, and are not even good at it. Each of them owns a PS3 or 360, and they have 2 games, both CoD. If Activision sold the game for $100 for the regular game they all would buy it day one
