I didn't know that they owned the hotel dusk franchise. Are you sure they do? I'm not saying you're wrong I just wanna be sure.jack_russel
Hotel Dusk is considered a 1st party title (some may say 2nd party, but that is technically not a "real" term, something is either 1st party or 3rd party) so I believe they do indeed own the rights.

are you counting games that they produced?

I'm counting the games or really the franchises they own. It doesn't matter if it was produced by their first or second party companies, because these franchises/games are owned by Nintendo. That's all I'm saying.

I didn't know that they owned the hotel dusk franchise. Are you sure they do? I'm not saying you're wrong I just wanna be sure.

I do believe it says "All ____ are owned by Nintendo." I'll have to check again later, because it's been a while since I powered on that game. I got back into PW. :P Kind of like Camelot's Golden Sun. They aren't owned by Nintendo, but the Golden Sun franchise is. It says at the end of the credits "All music, scenarios, characters are owned by Nintendo."

Heavenly Sword is not first party although Sony is publishing the game (I think?), neither is Resistance ( Sony just published the game, gives financial support). What the hell is HOME? is that a game or the 3D sim thing to interact online, I guess you could consider it a game. Jak and Daxter again is not Sony made, they own it due to the fact they pay for it but they don't make it, it's made on USA by Insomniac.

Smart enough to charge too much for a game console,  oh yeah I forgot it is a multi media center.  That being the case why is it eligible for System Wars discussion?  The PS3 isn't next gen, its just a DVD player that happens to play games.

Nintendo wins.

Mario and Pokemon massively own anything Sony can put out.
foxhound_fox

as franchises those are by far the most sold. True.

BUT each individual game they put out have counterparts from sony.

An average pokemon games sells what, like 10 Million? So does the average Gran Turismo game. Pokemon has just had more games released becuase it's been around longer.

Also, Sony has more million + selling franchises than nintendo does.

Average Pokemon sells around 14-16 million...and then the improved add on (i.e Emerald) sells around 8-10 million...not to mention Pokemon has stuff outside the main series...

But yeah GT is the only game they have that can compete with Pokemon, Mario, and the Touch Gen/Wii Play stuff

thats odd, because the company that makes it is an indepentent 3rd party. I don't really see how that is possible.

they own the Resistance franchise, so that is first party. Home is this free online thing that the PS3 is going to have. it's like a sims mmo. jak and daxter is not made by insomniac, it's made by naughty dog (which is owned by sony).\

Technically Pokemon R/B and GT both came out in the same year, 1998 (best gaming year ever)...but remember that was just the US Pokemon release, I believe R/B/G had been out in Japan since '96, so Pokemon is actually older...unless I'm missing something

Simply put.. 1st party titles.  Sony knows that 3rd party exclusives are a dying breed. Honestly, even if games such as MGS and final fantasy didnt exist. I would still buy a PS3 for these 1st party Sony Published games and franchises..

1.Warhawk

2.Gran Turismo

3.Killzone

4.Ratchet and clank

5.Lair

6.Heavenly Sword

7.God of war franchise

8.Twisted metal franchise

9.Socom

10.Jak and daxter franchise

11.Resistance

12.Singstar

13.Home

14.Eight Days

15.Uncharted

Probably many other games I forgot to mention. But thats why sony is the smartest company out of the other 2 and they have the better business model. Really when you think about it. All MS is Forza, Halo, Mass Effect, Gears Of war, Crackdown that are 1st party published.  Grant it Nintendo has a solid 1st party line up as well. But for the mature gamer, Sony's 1st party line up owns all!!  That is why Sony will come out on top this gen. They have all the great 1st party titles to call their own and they will win

Ahammer80

only game that appeals to me slightly is twisted metal and socom  nothing is confirmed for ps3.

I don't think so....

they just publish thier games all the time. R&C is made by insomniac, which is a completely independant dev.

they could be making an Xbox 360 title for all we know.

Simply put.. 1st party titles. Sony knows that 3rd party exclusives are a dying breed. Honestly, even if games such as MGS and final fantasy didnt exist. I would still buy a PS3 for these 1st party Sony Published games and franchises..

1.Warhawk

3.Killzone

5.Lair

9.Socom

11.Resistance

12.Singstar

13.Home

[QUOTE="nintendo-4life"][QUOTE="jack_russel"][QUOTE="yoshi_64"]

[QUOTE="Ps3Solider"][QUOTE="yoshi_64"]Umm.. you're allowed to have your opinion, but the media and general consumer states otherwise.

Pokemon
Mario
Zelda
Metroid
Super Smash Bros series
Mario Kart
and hell this list would be too long to list, but those are mult million seller franchises right there.jack_russel

nintendo's franchise has hardly expanded from zelda, mario, and donkey kong. its pretty sad how much they have milked these games for the past 20years. Dont get me wrong I love them all and I want them to continue making them since they are always fun to play, but at some point you gotta get ORIGINAL.

Are yous ayint Nintendo hasn't made anthing original?dear lord... ok you asked for it..

- Brain Age
- Brain Academy
- Pikmin
- Nintendogs
- Animal Crossing
- Advance Wars
- Golden Sun
- Wii Sports
- Chibi Robot
- Fire Emblem series (to anyone other than Japan)
- Elite Beat Agents
- Odama
- Hotel Dusk
- Trace Memory
- Excite Truck
- Project H.A.M.M.E.R.
- Disaster: Day of Crisis
- Clubhouse Games

now combing those with some of these...

- F-zero franchise
- Donkey Kong series
- Mario
- Metroid
- Zelda
- Pokemon
- Pilotwings
- 1080
- and much more

Nintendo just holds the most titles, and keeps on making new original titles as well. I think you're just blind to see that though...

are you counting games that they produced?

so the TC is allowed to use produced games, but we aren't? :?

I was just asking if he was or not. I didn't know where Hotel dusk stood.

oh, wasn't HD first party? :?
BTW i'm wondering about some things, and since you know a lot of things about first party and second party, can you please clear some things for me?

1. if an independant dev makes a game, and then let's say MS buys this company, does this make the game they made BEFORE the buy 1st party, second party, or third party?

2. if a second party makes it's own franchise, does it count as first party?

3. if a first party and a third party make a game, where does this game stand? :? (ex. super mario baseball, published by nintendo yet devloped by namco).

BTW i'm not being a smartass or anything, these questions have been driving me crazy :?

1. the old games would be third party, but the new ones would be 1st party. 2. If the second party still owns the franchise then it's second party 3. the game would be 1st party because nintendo owns the franchise.
