The economic problems are pretty much Global btw.
Japan has a space issue I believe.
acsguitar
The "space issue" is the result of too many Japanese living in the urban areas such as Tokyo. The Japanese countryside is so underpopulated to a point that some rural areas will pay people to live there for several months. Since there are too many people living in the urban areas, prices are high which explains the "space issue" as it would be expensive to have more living space.
The main reason why the Xbox 360 does not sell well in Japan has nothing to with the console's national origin, but the type of games it has. Games that appeal to Western tastes, such as first-person shooters, do not appeal to the Japanese who prefer games like Dragon Quest and the software that elitists of System Wars often loath, such as WiiFit. Microsoft should know better that what works well in the West may not work well in the East due to cultural differences.
 nice one but seriously M$ is tryin so hardJapan has a space issue I believe. They live in smaller homes then Americans and I believe closer together. Imagine the damage a fire hazard like the x360 could do. It would be awful.
Safety first says PS3. j/k j/k Not a fanboy of any kind

It fulfills every genre and has more games than the PS3 and yet they completely ignore it And anyway thinks that foreign products have an easy time in Japan are completely obliviousBecause it doesn't have enough games they want or care for. Thats the anwser to that. Multiplats they can get on the PS3 anyway.
And for people that say they don't buy foreign products are kidding themselves.

Yet more speculation, tell me what genre is lacking and how the PS3 is doing better? The 360 has every genre covered, some are better on the Wii, but in comparison to the PS3, its way ahead. The whole 360 is an American console only argument has been dead for years[QUOTE="siLVURcross"]It's called brand loyalty.Bigboi500Oh really? PS3 isn't exactly flying off the shelves either. Last gen Japan didn't buy many Gamecubes so I don't think it's about brand loyalty over there. And I'm pretty sure they bought even less Xbox 1. What's your point?

The whole 360 is an American console only argument has been dead for years There are some games that have released for the PS3, that haven't been released here. Give me a couple of games that the Japanese would prefer on that console other then the.... oh I don't know three or four JRPGs that are out for it that aren't multiplatform. Give me a couple that would jusitfly them buying that console over the PS3 and I am talking about in the future too. Take a glance at famitsus most wanted games and only one of the is X box exclusive (Star Ocean: The Last Hope) while the PS3 had like three or four.[QUOTE="Bigboi500"][QUOTE="siLVURcross"]It's called brand loyalty.siLVURcrossOh really? maybe just maybe they dont like the 360... even if it has more Rpgs (and Japanese sure love rpgs) most of them are mediocre/average titles so japanese just dont bother getting 360's...
and its not like PS3 is selling millions over there either... seems like the handheld market is the only strong point this gen in Japan..
Many Japanese are racist. Go read info on it. It was shocking. Heh kinda like going to a soccer game in spain (its terrible how they treat African players). The Japanese really dislike non Japanese (mix) citizens and or legal residents. Hmm why doesnt teh xbox 360 sell well in Japan? Who knows.... They are free to buy whatever they want. Just like I havent bought a ps3. Doesnt make me a racist imo. But yea, racism is a problem in Japan, just like every other country in this ugly world. azell07
Uh, no thats not why 360 is failing in Japan.

Japan was in recession before the US was BTW, they have posted 1 more quarter of negative growth than most of the G7 (not sure if it is all)
First Disc is right, the japanese go out of their way to adviod anything forien, especially electronics. MS has some of the biggest games that the JP market could ever want, the main reason is pure hatred of forigen products.

Amen to that. I would love to see American consumers become alot more loyal to US products, as well. Yes. It sure as hell isn't lack of RPGs like some on here were clamouring on about. The Wii and the PS3 both lack a solid JRPG library. Bottom line is the real winner in Japan is the handheld. Look at the market penetration for the DS AND the PSP for that matter. It's crazy.[QUOTE="Bigboi500"][QUOTE="FirstDiscovery"]Whats that?:|JediRiffProducts made in other countries, jobs in this country outsourcing.

Microsoft have worked their butts off for Japan. They have a lot of Jrpgs over there. It isn't helping sell the 360. Japan loves Jrpgs and the PS2 sold really well in Japan as a result. It is about Xbox 360 being a foreign product, nothing more. Yes, Japanese buy Ipods and Windows, but that is really it. It is a failed effort on Microsoft's part. I bet if Microsoft miraculously ended up with all the rights to Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy...360 still wouldn't sell well in Japan.
[QUOTE="foreverflame890"]The 360 is the greatest console this gen, but thses ppl can't see it. Tsk..What a shame,MS deserves better.naruto7777i agree the Japanese cant appriciate good games Because what -you- think is a good game, is universally a good game, right? Japan isn't America. They have different tastes. As we all know, they love JRPG's and the like, and guess what, each time a JRPG has dropped there, a new influx of buyers! Why would they buy a 360 for Gears2, or Halo 3? Japanese gamers typically -HATE- those types of games. Just because they have different taste to you, doesn't mean they don't appreciate good games. I mean, lets look at your sig/avatar, I'm willing to bet you think FFXII and FFXIII are good games, right? Guess what the number 1 most wanted game is Japan?* That's right, FFXIII. So, going by that, we can ascertain that they -obviously- appreciate good games in -your- opinion, as they want a game that you think is good! Now some people here think Final Fantasy is trash. Obviously, you don't agree. Which one of you is right? Neither. It's called opinions, and tastes. Learn to be more open. This should also explain to 360 fans why the 360 isn't selling in droves there. There's nothing on the console for them. The PS3 is selling there, because there's a number of games that appeal to the Japanese... MGS4, GT5P, WKC. Guess what, only 1 of those is a new IP, and probably earned itself a good word of mouth to get the sales it did, and continues to get. The 360 community in Japan is small, even if there were a good new IP released, chances are, not many would hear about it.
