Because consoles shouldn't have install times in the first place... well that's atleast what I've always thought of the subject anyway.
But what about the people that bought the 20GB and 40GB PS3's? They are gonna run out of space really soon, because it seems that devs are actually gonna adopt this system. And my main complain is that a console, should be a console. The bad thing now is that consoles are trying to be more like PCs, which kills their appeal IMO.

i thought this was only an issue on the ps3 and that the 20 gig models are defunct
On consoles, I'm used to having games playable from the start. On the PC, I'm used to installing games then putting the disk back in it's case forever.
Capcom made it so that both console gamers and PC gamers would hate the PS3.
That's my opinion anyways...

i also feel sorry for them but they are so few 20gb ps3s around they have to compromise, but for the overwhelming majority i dont get the problem

I wish developers would just make it standard, though.
Hurray!!! I finally got that new PS3 game I've been waiting on all year, time to make a sandwich and watch some tv!
Hurry up with that DVD attachment Sony so we can have a decient digital optical drive in the PS3 and not one designed to make watching movies better.
Instally takes the whole point out of a console. If I wanted to install my game I would become a HERMIT. And every body in system wars knows that that is not going to happen. SkullboyX
people who are buying games on 360 and pS3 should get PCs anyway. Seriously they are always spouting about graphics when a better alternative is always there.
This is killing me lol. All this time how many people on this board claimed but but teh PC gaming has to install. But but teh PC gaming has to be upgraded every year.
But now its okay to install consoles games? Now its okay to Upgrade after only a year on the market? Hypocricy I sary Hypocricy....

Blizzard finally patched Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 to work without CDs :o maybe others will follow suit.
it just should happen, not on consoles.
ANd also: Because say I want to play Hot Shots Golf, then DMC4, then Lost Planet. That 15/17 GB right there if your a 20 Gb owner. Cant put another game that has in installation in or download many demos at all
Time to upgrade then. Get a 80 gig drive for 40 bucks and install it.it just should happen, not on consoles.

Im all for it if they can drastically cut down load times it a plus. 360 fanboys just wanna pick at anything potentially bad.Cyber-
Took the words right out of my mouth. Because we all know that trying to make a better gaming experience is wrong

i always see people complaining over installations firstly cos of the time it takes and 2nd cos of the space. but whats the problem. say it takes 20 mins, flick to tv or surf the web or something and if the install is large why dont you just delete it when your done. people make waiting 20 mins seem like mild agony.sixpmtvwatcher
imagine playing another game and wanting to play the first game again... you'd have to install again if you have limited space,
[QUOTE="DivergeUnify"]20 gig hdd- 5gigs for installation spaces

Ouch.
also, if you have 6 games with a 5 GB install, you have to install them each time you play another game.... (you have to free up space... or play the game, finish the game and never look back)

Explain to me how waiting 20 minutes for a 5 gig installation with no real benefits is a better gaming experience?[QUOTE="Cyber-"]Im all for it if they can drastically cut down load times it a plus. 360 fanboys just wanna pick at anything potentially bad.hayato_

Yet these games and games like DMC4 load fine on 360 without the need of a 5GB installation. So tell me how these mandatory installations are good? They're not. If they optional then yes they wouldb be amazing but they're not. The installations on these games from Capcom are because the Blu-Ray reads aren't as fast as DVD9. Sony should just let devs put games that aren't over 9GB's on DVD9 like 360 so the games can have good load times without having to install data.
aren't these installs also helping with texture streaming? Always-HonestNot so much that its a noticible difference. The major reason for the installations is the slow speed of the bluray. They're trying to cut back on loading times. You can sit there and do a 20 minute installation for 2 or 3 seconds off your loading screen, but thats really neglible. You're basically wasting 20 minutes.
i always see people complaining over installations firstly cos of the time it takes and 2nd cos of the space. but whats the problem. say it takes 20 mins, flick to tv or surf the web or something and if the install is large why dont you just delete it when your done. people make waiting 20 mins seem like mild agony.sixpmtvwatcherFirst of all, installations are for the PC not consoles. Secondly, if you have a 20, or a 40gig you will be deleting and installing all the time, unless you only buy 4 or 5 games throughout the consoles life. Why do I have to wait 20 minutes to install a game if I go play over a friend's house? I could rabble on all day about how incredibly stupid 5gb installs on a 20-40 gig HDD is, but the bottom line is that it's an inconvenience that you shouldn't have on a $400-$500 machine. :|
Well not to be rude or anything, but I welcome it.
I figured if you have the technology why not use it. Shorter load times are shorter load times There are some areas in the 360 version (DMC 4) that the PS3 doesn't need to load hence why they said no loading in some areas.
It was just something new their trying to exprience with and thats good. And if your buying 5 or 6 games then you probably have enough money to buy a bigger HDD
Just my take on it.
yeah it does suck for those who got a 20 gig but they can manage their games. When your done with the game you can delete the 5 gig install. Also if you havent noticed the only games on ps3 that have taken up 5 gigs was DMC and i guess lost planet will, all these games are campcom games. They must not know how to work the ps3 because all ps3 exclusives, hell all other multiplat games dont even take up that much.
Just bad devs not knowing how to work a game. I mean why can a game like uncharted that is easily the best looking console game not even take a half a gig install and have 0 load times?
Here's some things that bother me about DMC 4. Even with the ridiculous loading time, the game still loads EVERYWHERE. On top of that you are presented with a game that could have been made in 1995.
Small closed in levels- check. Why do you have to load these? most of the areas are small with big back drops.
Stupid closed in Boss Battles -check. UGH.
Dumb ass camera angles -check, check, check. What's up with Japanese games designers and busted camera systems in their games? It's like they use it as a crutch to make the game harder than it actually is.
Hey Capcom, running into an area and not being able to see what the hell is in front of you was stupid years ago and it's even dumber now.
Everything about this game screams ancient game design. So yeah, waiting 20 minutes to play it is a bit of a letdown.
I still like it though.
Cows that defend the installations are as bad as lemmings that defend the RROD. Why can't they just accept it's a bad thing?
Still I do not think installations are there because Blu-ray is slow. The best games on the PS3 have no load times and look great like Uncharted and R&C. I think it's because Capcom is to lazy to compress data and would rather take a shortcut for the PS3 version which is something it can't do with the 360.
Are you really going to be playing that game enough to warrant the 20 minute installation? It only cuts off about 2 seconds from the loading screens. Sure rule of exponential growth, but really now, 20 minutes worth of 2 second intervals is a long time.Well not to be rude or anything, but I welcome it.

What does RROD have to do with smaller loadtimes? And saying "why won't they admit it's a bad thing" is pretty much saying they don't think it's a bad thing or at least won't admit it. Which is still false. I don't think I've ever seen a lemming here that wasn't PISSED when their 360 RROD'ed. And I'm sure everyone here is on the same page that the 360's design is garbage. isnt this a smart move? theyre just future prooofing the console because of the fact that devs will start having space issues on dvds. it might be a disadvantage now, but in future it will emerge as the best choice adopting a larger format
We're already in 2008, and the problem is only barely emergent. But BR is the reason for the installs
Installations are occurring only on the PS3
Space is an issue on the PS3. Music, movies, demos, PSN games and now BR installs will eat up space in no time. i know you can upgrade the HDD, but would that not make the PS3 obsolete out of the box?

Anyway, they don't seem to really use it for that because Lost Planet looks like utter crap compared to the 360 version (and i'm not kidding)
