Why the PS3 is superior to the 360 and Wii, and why I sold the latter two.

Here are the reasons why I sold off my Wii (for a profit) and my 360, and bought a PS3...

Xbox 1 was innovative. It includes a hdd built in making memory cards obsolete, had ethernet built in, it started the online play revolution, and gave you a ton of bang for your buck.

What I realized though, is that with the 360's success, Microsoft has gotten money hungry...

The 360 is the only console this generation that charges for a WiFi attachment, and a $100 at that. The DS, the PSP, the Wii and the PS3 all include WiFi cards inside the consoles. But Microsoft makes you pay an extra $100 just for the WiFi attachment!

They charge $50 to play online. Fine. But guess what, you have to pay another $50 if you want to have a friend play beside you on the same console. That's pretty greedy. If I have a live membership, and I have a friend over, both of us should be able to play on live as long as we are both on the same console. But MS says no, you have pay another $50 for your friend even when they are on the same console as you!!

Despite paying money for live, MS doesn't have dedicated servers, Sony games do!! Seriously, how is that for irony. Call of Duty on 360 was required to operate within the confines of Live. This means that like all live games, it sought out the player with the best internet connection and used them to host the game. Meanwhile on the PS3, CoD4's devs host the game on dedicated servers free from MS's restrictions. So the online gameplay is much smoother! Believe me, I owned and played the game on both consoles.

Game Devs are not allowed to utilize the hdd on the 360 to pool large amounts of data. It's a rule by MS, no game require you to have a hdd. That's going to limit how expansive and free sand box games can be in the future! I paid for the hdd, I want game devs to be able to use it to enhance my experience.

Digital Downloads suck! Seriously, I bought a bunch of Live games. When I sent in 360 for a repair, they replaced my console. But guess what, they were tied to the console that I sent in for repair. And MS refused to refund my money for the live games! If I buy a game, I want to actually own it. I want to be able to return it if it ends up having serious problems. I want to be able to sell it off on ebay when I get sick of it. With digital downloads, you don't get the same freedom, but it's what the 360 pushes.

Blu Ray is awesome. Trust me, I eventually wound up getting a hdtv. And high def video is the future. I am so happy Sony included it in their console.

While all the great games were on 360 last year, this year, all the great games are coming out for the PS3 instead! This was the perfect time to switch.

I got the PS3 for $260 because Target gave a $40 gift card with PS3 purchase and on top of that, Sony gave $100 off of PS3 if you subscribe to a Sony credit card... www.sony.com/sonycard/ps3

I love that the PS3's controllers have a built in rechargable battery. Having to swap out batteries is a pain, and very pricy.

Nintendo is being just as greedy with the Wii. Not only are they charging $250 for a gamecube with a new controller, plus $60 for each of these controllers, but now they're charging for online play too! And worst of all, they only have two games worth getting imho, Wii Sports and Smash Brothers Brawl. Once Brawl comes out, the Wii is going to go through a massive dry spell of games.

In short, thats why I sold off my Wii and 360 and bought a PS3. What about you?

Well it sucks to be you. You had all three systems as I do which gives you the best of all worlds. But sold 2 of them for some pretty lame reasons in my opinion. But hey you will be able to play your PS3 in June when the games start comming out!

A friend doesn't have to pay so you can both be on live on the same console, s/he just has to login as a guest, and digital downloads aren't tied to the console, they're tied to the xbox live account. Seems to me like you're lying about having owned a 360.

I hope you know you can buy a third-party charger for Wii Remotes for $30, right? It even makes the controller look sexier.

Here are the reasons why I sold off my Wii (for a profit) and my 360, and bought a PS3...

Xbox 1 was innovative. It includes a hdd built in making memory cards obsolete, had ethernet built in, it started the online play revolution, and gave you a ton of bang for your buck.

wikitheory
Probably the only thing I will wholeheartedly agree with in this post.

What I realized though, is that with the 360's success, Microsoft has gotten money hungry...

The 360 is the only console this generation that charges for a WiFi attachment, and a $100 at that. The DS, the PSP, the Wii and the PS3 all include WiFi cards inside the consoles. But Microsoft makes you pay an extra $100 just for the WiFi attachment!

wikitheory
It gives the consumers much more options, I agree though that Microsoft does have a stranglehold on the accessories department and most accessories are very overpriced.

They charge $50 to play online. Fine. But guess what, you have to pay another $50 if you want to have a friend play beside you on the same console. That's pretty greedy. If I have a live membership, and I have a friend over, both of us should be able to play on live as long as we are both on the same console. But MS says no, you have pay another $50 for your friend even when they are on the same console as you!!

wikitheory
They don't "charge $50 to play online" that is only if you buy the 12 (+1 month) card. Most of the more popular games come with a guest feature to bypass the added fee (Halo 3 and Gears come to mind). Why would you want 4 people playing on the same TV with a small screen online vs. multiple people with their own TV's is beyond me.

Believe me, I owned and played the game on both consoles.

wikitheory
Not all of Sony's games have Dedicated Servers, most are P2P just like the Xbox360. The glory of P2P games is that they could still be played years down the line where dedicated servers can shut down at any time and leave you high and dry. (See MGS3 Substance).

Game Devs are not allowed to utilize the hdd on the 360 to pool large amounts of data. It's a rule by MS, no game require you to have a hdd. That's going to limit how expansive and free sand box games can be in the future! I paid for the hdd, I want game devs to be able to use it to enhance my experience.

wikitheory
Which is why you get the DLC when it is released, most games that are huge, don't need additional space most fit on one DVD. (See Oblivion, Mass Effect, Dead Rising)

With digital downloads, you don't get the same freedom, but it's what the 360 pushes.

wikitheory
Digital Downloads are edging out CD sales now, Itunes has just pushed up to number 2 (Walmart #1) right past Best Buy and Target. Digital Downloading seems to be the future of gaming now too (with the success of Steam as well). Yea it sucks that you don't have your live games offline but when you sign in you have access to all of them. Continue to call Microsoft and ask to talk with the Supervisor most of the time they will refund you your points to buy back the games. The 360 is not the only thing pushing Digital Downloads bro.

Blu Ray is awesome. Trust me, I eventually wound up getting a hdtv. And high def video is the future. I am so happy Sony included it in their console.

wikitheory
I am not glad that they essentially made every PS3 owner a Blu Ray supporter, many other people support this opinion.

While all the great games were on 360 last year, this year, all the great games are coming out for the PS3 instead! This was the perfect time to switch.

wikitheory
What makes you think that in 09' all the great games will still be on PS3? It's never good to settle with one console if you want to play all the genres of games. Theres is no need to switch, just have all 3.

I love that the PS3's controllers have a built in rechargable battery. Having to swap out batteries is a pain, and very pricy.

wikitheory
Having to pay for another controller with rumble in a few months is going to suck too, Also whenever the battery inside the controller dies... guess what? It's useless and you have to send it back to Sony for a replacement. I guess you never got a play and charge kit.

Once Brawl comes out, the Wii is going to go through a massive dry spell of games.

wikitheory
The Wii is the PS2 of this generation, you may wanna get used to that. So Super Mario Galaxy/Metroid Prime/No More Heroes/Zelda are not worth playing/getting? Way to be shortsighted...

In short, thats why I sold off my Wii and 360 and bought a PS3. What about you?

wikitheory
Me? I actually feel sorry for you that you actually traded in two systems for one system. Oh and next time post on your main account, hiding really does you no good

I have a 360 and a ps3 and my brothers and I always play on line on the same console. As a matter of fact they have there own profile on my 360. blu ray is awesome, the 360 has an awesome friends list you can watch hd movies for a fraction of what it cost to get blurays, and has custom sound tracks,

Yes, because the PS3 is overflowing with them right now, correct? How smoothly are Gears and Halo running on your PS3? Dead Rising? Hmm?

I can feel the PS3 + PC argument coming...

The PS3 gives you excellent bang for your buck, but the 360 is still a better all around gaming machine, at least right now.

Oh so that's the secret! I gotta say though, it runs smoothly enough on my 360 that I would've assumed it was installed on the HDD, if I didn't already know that the harddrive wasn't for games...

I will stick with my Wii for another year or so as Sony's PS3 is absloute lousy for games! Nothing new or actually exciting coming on out untill GT.

Besides FPS's on the Wii are so much better than either of the 2 so called NEXT GEN consoles.

Cows like to dodge the fact that there console has barely any good games by showing off the useless features, such as HD gaming, Blu Ray and teh cell. Blu ray has been paticularly useless at the moment, it hasn't shown bigger more expansive games, MGS4 has already filled up a full blu ray disc, probably with useless crap. The game itself no doubt will be roughly about 6-10 hours long. Guessing it will be announced soon that it will be a 10 GB install which should take a good 40 minutes to install. thats 20GB off the HDD for anyone who owns LP and DMC4. Right...

As for the PS3's upcoming grand selection of games that are apparently coming this year, I can't see them. Theres basically just lbp ,MGS4, WKS, FF13 and thats it? Pathetic if you ask me.

Someone sold his consoles to buy another one, he states his thoughts about the consoles and the whole thread ends up in a discussion about the lousy PS3 and so on. I can't understand why people are so ignorant.

So you basically took some problems other people had(individually) and mashed it as your own? Every single point in your thread has appeared during this month in other people's threads, and i saw them all. This thread fails massively.

You are mistaken, you don't have to pay an additional 50 bucks for a friend to play on Live. Your supposed to keep your HDD when you send it in for repairs, it has YOUR games on it. Ever here of the play and charge kit, and what happens when that rechargeable ps3 controllers battery goes dead, you won't have to worry about that for a 360 pad. Why doesn't sony pack in HD cables or Include a headset with their console, Microsoft does. You can go both ways on this. 360 is a great console and still has great games coming this year, A few include Ninja Gaiden 2, Gears of War 2, and Fable 2.

Geez, if I were you I would've kept all three systems. It's the best of three worlds...

I jumped ship and sold my 360 too I couldn't be happier with my decision. I owned a wii to as sold it also I used to love nintendo but like you said it's a cube with a new controller. I agree with everything you said 100%.jdc6305

I love this comment whenever someone says it. Its magical, cuz I do in fact have a gamecube sitting next to mt TV, with its internal memory(wonder why that memory card is sticking out of it?), its built in WiFi(still haven't figured out how to use that one), its ability to download games from many classic consoles(again, havent' figured out how to do that), its buletooth controller(got wires still:(), I'm sure theres more my GCN can do that my Wii can do that I'm forgetting.. seeing as they are both the same system.. just the Wii has this fancy smancy new controller.

[QUOTE="-Renegade"]I'll give you another reason. Not enough exclusive games on the 360 and 360 doesn't have Gran Turismo.SeanBond

OUCH!!!!

there are so many things wrong with the original posters statements i dont know where to begin. there are some truths like the wifi issue wifi is not as reliable anyway so i could care less but a 100 bucks is pricey. now the faults cod does not run better on the ps3 it is the same experience. you do not have to pay an extra 50 dollars to go online with another person on the same console

Wait, he said that Nintendo is going to start charging for online play on the Wii? Did I miss something?

PopeReal

the tc is confused. nintendo said that for certain games, ie MMOs, they will have a "pay and play" feature.

Online Play is still Free they are just charging for certain games because they might have Downloadable content or else be MMOs those are the only things Nintendo will charge for probably they didn't go into any specs they just said that the Online play is still free.

This news is from Febuary 22nd because it was announced a GDC.

Well kinda agree with you, with the difference i didnt even bother to waste any money for X360 or Wii.

But i dont own a PS3 either because it lacked games and here is pricy yet. But im just waiting the right moment, because i see a lot of potential from PS3 in the future and i like a lot most of its exclusives. This plus the blu-ray is a must for me.

This is a valid question. If PS1 was dudes first console, of course he's going to be a Sony zealot. I don't know about you and your blu-ray but I bought the 360 for games, not for movies. If i wanted an overpriced movie player, i'd have gotten a PS3. If i wanted to play games that are fun and exclusive, i'd get the 360, if I wanted to play casual games, i'd get a Wii. Sony PS2 was a good console, considering it was the most underpowered of its generation, but the PS3 can't keep living off the success of the PS2, 360 is just as good in every way, except with actual games already out for it. None of this "jsut wait" crap. The wii, it's good too, even if it has less 'kill appz'. PS3 exclusives, when they arrive, will be good too, however when it comes to cross platform games, they are almost identical. Personall, i k my biggest problem with PS3 is the crummy controller, its so clunky and uncomfrotable and crampy. 360 is super comfortable. If the games play the same on both consoles, then i'd go with comfort over crampy. I wouldnt buy a ps3 because it has MGS exclusive. what about other good games and exclusives? 360 has more to date. Again, games = fun = better console.

Nice post. I've got all 3 consoles, and you've pretty much nailed each one. The 360 is the only console I play games on constantly, whereas I've got my Wii for the latest 1st party stuff, and the occasional party game (although I rarely play those). I bought a PS3 when I got my plasma, because I wanted a blu-ray player, and so far, outside of Stranglehold (which I bought for the Hard Boiled blu-ray), I don't really play any PS3 games on the system (although I do play Persona 3).

The PS3 is a good gaming machine, but most multiplats run better on the 360 (and have achievements), and I prefer the 360's more solid-feeling controller (and I haven't imported a DS3, so only my 360 has rumble), so I always buy multi-plats on the 360. My PS3 gets weekly use as an excellent blu-ray/dvd player, but doesn't do too much to fill the gaming void in my life.

I own a Wii, admire the other two systems, want to upgrade my computer, but after reading that steaming pile of... nonsense:

No. Just, no.

not to be judgemental...but there goes your chance of playing some amazing games for both systemslink-a-link

I agree. Both of them have very excellent games.
