XBOX 360 and Nintendo Wii are your best consoles and will most likely remain on top for years to come. They were better the last gen too. I think gamers are finally realizing that. I can see Sony getting bought out in a few years. Sony = Last.

I really don't think MS and Nintendo are competing with each other even though they both have affordable consoles. They both just want to get paid. Since most gamers can afford both, they really don't get in each other's way.

Yeah.  Sony has really lost base with the people it's selling to.  I mean c'mon what are they doing.  What are the big-wigs up in the Corporate Office thinking.  I know they see the numbers and what kinda plans are they devising.  That's what I wanna know.  You know there has to be some type of plan or idea or something to turn the ship around.  I mean Sony is such a big company.

price is a factor yes. Bad press certainly another factor. Lack of games that are getting people excited about the system another factor.  360 isn't pulling 'miles" ahead btw I don't know where you're getting that from.

Microsoft and Nintendo have actually helped each other in my opinion. I'm sure they would both be glad to see Sony leave the console wars in the next couple of years. There is plenty of room for XBOX 360 and Nintendo Wii to exist together, but I really don't see Sony doing that well anymore. I think they are the Sega Genesis of the new generation. Sega was huge, and then all of the sudden, nobody cared. Nintendo is a proven winner with years of experience in the industry, and Microsoft is a giant in their own right. Sony should be very afraid.

Sony is so much like Sega it's not even funny. I think the closest resemblance was trying to push formats on people. Back then, no one was ready for CDs, right now, nobody is ready for Blu-Ray.

It's funny how the Genesis with add-ons was a hulking mass of black plastic as is the PS3.

I would like to know what the Sony execs were smoking when they thought a gaming console would sell for 599 USD.

I would just like to add my own two (euro)cents to the elaboration of why Sony will fail, with regards to my home country Hungary: Again, it stems from the price. Taxes and everything, the PS3 costs 160 000HUF -- for the sake of comparison, the Wii is 70 000HUF, and the average monthly net wage in the country is 100 000HUF. This is going to turn off a lot of people, especially because the country still has a very, very weak gaming subculture. Now, the ironic thing is that lowering the price would actually make matters worse. As we know, the PS3 is selling with a deficit, and they're hoping to make up the loss with the game licences. Except the problem is that almost no one in this country ever buys original games (seriously. everyone I know has only pirated games for the PS1 and 2), so that's pretty much out the window. Sales indexes will plummet and Sony might very well pull out after a year or so.

sony will always have japan. Japan does not fully trust nintendo, and will never trust microsoft ever. They probably wont like any american company other than macdonalds. That's a huge market, the best game devs are from there, and they'll be pretty much guarenteed it every gen. Sony might still lose, but they'll always have a chance

at 400$ with no next gen drive....no HDMI...no WIFI....x360 is wayyyy overpriced.

thats not all

yopu pay 50$ yearly online subscription.

x360 is the least selling console in both JAPAN and EU.

in JAPAN ps3 is beating it 10:1 (33k vs 3k)

in EU on march 23rd x360 wont remain on the shelves anymore.

dont talk about Wii.......a joke

At the very least, sony doesn't have to compete with microsoft in japan. This gen, I dont see sony losing japan to nintendo either. Handhelds are a whole different story. Maybe japan has forgiven nintendo for it did to sony in the mid nineties (betrayed sony to ally with an american company). If that's the case, then maybe next gen nintendo will be favored.
