Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed......Dead Rising and Crackdown deserve a mention.
kankthetank
pretty much
Because the console runs out of memory. Pity, eh?Yodas_Boy
Bingo, it really has to do with Ram.
The main reason why you won't see Crysis in it's current form on them.
Im sorry but none of those games mentioned looks as good or better than Gears....
But I mean a game as large and emersive like GTA: san andreas...!

GTA San andreas doesn't look as good as Gears either...
How about you just wait for GTA4 if you're that picky about this situation. It's a bad analogy anyway. San Andreas was a terrible looking game. Gears of War is an incredible looking game. A world the size of say GTA looking like Gears isn't easy. Mass Effect may have hit it though.
I've played and seen all those games that is mentionedbut lets be real for one second.......NONE of them looks as good as gears of war.

Well thats what I mean. I havent seen a graphic intensive game like gears in an enormous envirment like GTA:SA....
Have you seen anything like it?
lol cows.......show me a ps3 game thats bigger then san andreas and has detail like gearsI've played and seen all those games that is mentionedbut lets be real for one second.......NONE of them looks as good as gears of war.

because they are inversely proportionate...with only 512MB ofRAMthe higher the texture quality the smaller the environment has to be because most of the RAM is taken up by the textures and vice versa...Im sorry but none of those games mentioned looks as good or better than Gears....

there are a couple of exceptions like Oblivion (but it had texture pop and had alot of loads) but its almost impossible to have huge environments and high textures with only 512MB of RAM

the system's memory is limited, obviously, there will be sacrifices. Gears isn't as open-ended as a game like Dead Rising, so more resources will be focused on detail and such. Dead Rising is still a very detailed game, though, and has very good physics and almost everything is interactable....
P.S: I'm just using DR as an example....Assassin's Creed has fantastic lighting....Mass Effect is the closest thing to Gears in graphics (obviously, since its using the same engine).

Didn't really see much in ways of any of those in Gears. Texturing and lighting (or brown and bloom as I saw it) has been done better in Crysis. I've never really seen any kind of decent AI ever, except for FEAR but even then. And I never really saw much physics in Gears besides rediculously OTT ragdolls when you died. Half Life 2 did physics way better, and Star Wars Unleash the Force will just blow that out the water.

amen my brother....thats the kind of info i needed to hear.!!!
now my question to you is, Can PCs pull off such a game?

I've only played part of the demo so I really don't have a wealth of knowledge on the game but apparently Crysis has a huge environment and high detail but I think the recommend RAM is 2GB's thats 4 times more than either console...my PC has 1GB of system memory and my grfx card has another 512MB so my grpx card has the same amount of RAM as either console has in the whole systemthe PS3 also only has 512MB of system memory...as far as I know it and the 360 have advatages and limitation over one another...like the 360's EDRAM framebuffer or the Cells SPE's but they are both limited with their overall amount of system memory

I wish there was more gamers like you around these forums!!!! You know your stuff!!!
Question, Is there a way a developer can compress a game like crysis and make it run on a console with the highest PC Graphics setting?
You stole my thunder - agreed ! :)Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed......Dead Rising and Crackdown deserve a mention.
kankthetank
Isn't that obvious?
In geow they pushed the ardware as far as they could back then for that selected scale..
If the scale would be 10 times bigger then you will need a much better console..
Its like crysis, it could probably be run on consoles if the scale was only slightly lesser then Geow on maybe even highest settings but on the scale the game is supposed too be it slaughters any xbox360...
I thought Just Cause had excellent graphics...and I believe it was the largest console game ever made in it's time.
I'm pretty sure Assasins Creed and Mass Effect alone are enough to shut down this thread anyways.
I wish there was more gamers like you around these forums!!!! You know your stuff!!!Well there are things like installing parts ofa game onto a hardrive then streaming in the data so you are essentially loading the game around the player as the player is traversing the environment...the PS3 has used this technique but as of right now console don't want to go down that route because it requires alot of harddrive space and if you think about how many game you play over a consoles lifetime thats alot of installs/spaceQuestion, Is there a way a developer can compress a game like crysis and make it run on a console with the highest PC Graphics setting?

and the bitrate to read off a game disk is not really enough most of the time to support that kind of thing but it has been used off hand I know SSX 3 used this to load parts of the mountain as you snowboarded...but the amount of data that needs to be read in in alot of nextgen games 2X Bluray and 8X DVD is not fast enough to read in enough info
Crackdown deserve a mention.
kankthetank
What? Crackdown has horrible graphics. If somebody told me it was a XBOX 1 game I'd believe them.

Just Cause says hi.ball_of_air
are you serious? because i thought the game looked pretty good, but too bad everything else kinda sucked.
