I hate CS, in my book it isn't fun to get killed in the first few seconds and spend 5 minutes doing nothing while watching everyone else getting killed. I prefer games where if you get killed your back in the action less than 20 seconds later. I enjoy play the POE2 mod for bf2 more than CS in every way.danielsmith2020Ive been thinking of D-loading Point of Existance 2.
Does it have enough players online?
if cs is so good then how come it doesnt have a 1 million dollar tour coming up for it like halo does?NoNam3r
Cause its not a casual fest.

CS is the most widely played tournament game world wide... Secon to it is probably star craft, warcraft 3, Quake and UT.Halo is somewhere down the bottom there :P
I mean World Cyber Games people!
Besides Halo is really the barstard child of many different MP FPS games.

 That's so true, probably because lots of the concepts of CS are also fundamental to Shadowrun. In a way.

If you really played the game, I can't see how you can say it's simpler compared to CS. Shadowrun is basically CS with extra layers on it that actually make it more complex.

Pistols? Deagle.
Shotguns? Don't bother.
SMG's? Don't bother. MP5 if you have to.
Assault Rifles? AK47 or M4. Grab a Famas/Galil if you have to.
Sniper Rifles? AWP.
Machine Guns? Don't bother. Seriously.
So of all the "awesome" weapons there are a grand total of 4 worth using and 3 last resorts.
What a game.

I don't know if this is true for 1.6 or any other variants, but I found so many more useful weapons than just the ones you listed there.
USP, P228, Five Seven and the Deagle have been useful to me. I've even traded up a deagle for a USP on many occassions due to the added accuracy and in spite of the reduced strength. A headshot without a helmet is a headshot, amirite? The glock is useful, but not as useful as the USP IMO.
I found the Auto-shotty to be useful at times, mainly rushing, but for much else to be quite weak. Although I've seen people completely dominate with it alone. The M3 however can plow through an entire team in the hands of someone accurate, at times, even at a distance.
SMGs- Mac10 is too inaccurate for my liking.
MP5 is quite good at a distance and accurate at once so it's the weapon of choice probably because of that but I prefer the P90 and at times the TMP because of the rate of fire and the P90 is amazing for a successful rush on area.
And the only rifle I never really used was the Galil, doesn't gel with me.
Also Scout >> Awp. ;D
i see ALL the weapons used by one teamin css. i suck with the m4, so i use the famas. the best weapon is one you can use well.

Come on. I think anyone that's played the game for a long time will understand that weapon selection is more an art than a hard science. There's always one or two or three weapons that just "feel right", stats be damned.

More complicated does not mean it's better. I think the original poster showed that to become good at CS you need to master it's simple but deep gameplay. Just because shadowrun has a bunch of stuff tacked on, doesn't mean the gameplay is of as high quality as CS.
I just dropped in, sorry if I am repeating an already adressed question, but what is the health system in CS? Fixed? Regenerating? Do you need to take health packs?Mordred19
you have 100 points of health, and getting shot eats away at it. Armor prevents some health dmg though.

But having the played the game, it's hardly tacked on. All the additions are very well balanced and add to the quality of the game.
It's a great tribute to CS that Shadowrun is evolving the CS style gameplay.

Not saying that one is better than the other, but if you've played the game, you'll know that the comparison is totally valid.
And like I said, the creators of CS should feel good that FASA and MS took obvious inspiration from their game.

yup. famas just feels....good to use....
Excellent post. I'd only like to argue with one thing, which is weapon variety. If the only weapons in the game were USP, MP5, AK, and AWP the game would be practically the same. So I wouldn't go boasting the whole weapon-variety thing. Other than that, yes, I agree. Excellent teamwork, and I love the skill that is required.
I've been playing CS since beta 1 and have been continuing thru CSS. It's really strange how long it takes to get bored of the game. My only major gripe is most of the servers will only play a few popular maps, leaving a number of other great maps in the dust. I can't remember the last time I actually played tides.. I'm pretty sure it was over two years ago.
Whoever said not to bother with the machine gun needs to realize that weapon selection isn't all about number-crunching and hard scientific experimentation but individual playstyle. The machine gun is easily my favorite weapon. It has an obnoxiously large clip so it makes it a whole lot harder to get caught reloading. It does decent damage, and you don't have to worry too much about recoil if you fire off in single-shot or two-shot bursts. I can reliably get headshots with the machine-gun on a player standing on the opposite side of de_rats from me. Sure, it took practice, but it makes it all the more satisfying when people who call me a machine-gun n00b get a slug to the face.
Combine the machine-gun with the five-seven, and good times will be had by me!
team based... I would have to say Starsiege Tribes is #1.
CS is great when it came to close-quarter combat and I love it.
But for full scale, with vehicles, radar, turrets, a game that require strategy, tactics, great individual players and also teamwork since this post is about. Hands down, its gotta be Starsiege Tribes v1.

I think I want to play CS, now that I have read your persuasive article. Is it still sold at retail places? Is it hard to find?
I would be a noob, but I am definetly willing to get into this game. So many console shooters have failed me. None of them are tactical enough. This game sounds awesome.

CS isn't tactical. It isn't a sim.
But yeah, it's fun if you haven't played it. Hit it up. You need skill, just don't expect super uber tactics to win over a quick trigger finger.
Hmm.... tactical.... try Red Orchestra, which is a retail game now, but was initially a UT2k4 mod. Battlefield is tactical. Not sim-like, but it is tactical.
COunterstrike is fun, but I prefer more tactical and realistic shooters, like Armed Assault, SWAT 3-4, Raven shield or recently InsurgencyAdrianWerner
Realistic doesn't necessarily mean tactical.
Counterstrike is more realistic than UT.
UT is more tactical than CS.

There are way more tactical games than CS.
I mean, you can get away with everyone buying a Carbine if you wanted to, and they had elite aiming skills. Never mind shotgun in the corridors, or Bullpips or Sig Sauers for medium range.

I have no idea what the heck is going on. What makes these other games more tactical? Are you reffering to weapon selection rules? Are you talking about the rock-paper-scissors of weapons countering? I just always associated the highest level of online tactics as CS, I am confused. Can I even trust the definition of 'tactical' anymore?

a tactical shooter is one that requires many strategies in order to excel at, making it so that just because you are a better shot, doesn't mean you'll always win because the other guy can outsmart you.

so, you mean toe-to-toe headshotting happens more often in CS than flanking/covering/diversion/suppresion/surrounding?
I prefer Halo personally. And I believe that they are both popular because they are a little slower paced then many of the shooters out there. Like UT, which comes down more to reflexes.
I guess the only reason I like Halo more is that it was so much easier to just have 3 friends come over and play then have a LAN party.

yes. division suppresion and crao happens in games like....bf2 project reality, hmmm maybe you could try insurgency.....day of defeat is quite tactical aswell
