I think this sums up the arguments Subrosian, myself, and many others have been making over the past few weeks.

The game, on first glance, is rather underwhelming (I'm looking at you, all of you who played through the demo less than one full time), but, with each passing playthrough, you come to understand it, and, as you come to understand it, it evolves into something truly special.

People really should give the game another chance. You might miss a game that you would've really enjoyed

I'm sorry, but when GI's title of their review is "What could have been" you can't help but feel depressed that this game will not truly give you the experience that you will expect it to give.

I really think this will be another Assassin's Creed: Some sites giving it horrible reviews, and some giving it great reviews. It's pretty much a love-it or hate-it game.

It sounds like the kind of game I'd enjoy, but I have to admit that if a game is difficult to get into, it is a definite flaw with its design. Now I love many games that fit into this category, but when talking about true hit games a la Halo/GTA/Mario, you can't ignore mass appeal and accessibility. Games lacking these tend to be love it or hate it kind.

Not really. Too Human has also been scored high from other places but I don't believe any of them to be that credible. But this is off-topic because we are not talking about the reviews this game is getting. This is about giving that demo another playthrough or two and checking out the advanced combat controls and getting a feel for how the game is meant to be played. The game really is something special

It all depends on what type of game people like to play, not the game itself. If some people don't like it, they don't like it. IMO your gonna see more average reviews for Too Human rather than great review.

I know some people won't like the game. But I do think they should give the demo another chance for their sake. And I don't doubt it will get average reviews but I'm not very concerned with that.

Why should they play the demo again if they didn't like it the first time? I don't think playing the demo again will change their minds.

No wonder why movies like 300 seem to get "best movie ever" tags these days.

Too Human willprobablynever be realized by the public how great of a game it is. I don't think it's a AAA game. But definitely a AA game in my opinion. Never the less, I take reviews with a grain of salt. Usually using them as a guide. Not an answer.

Remember, a review is just one individuals opinion. I don't know about you, but I sure know that were a country of people with different likes and dislikes, so for someone to judge their gaming purchases off of others opinions is downright laughable, imo. I've loved the demo, and it's exactly what I expected it to be, so it's day one for me. Then again, some people hype things up so high, so no matter how enjoyablle something is, they'll still be disappointed.

I think the final paragraph sums it up perfectly:

"So while I can understand why some people have already dismissed it, I think Too Human is absolutely worth another look. It features deep, innovative controls, is built for co-op, and should have fans of the venerable Diablo and Gauntlet franchises creaming their jeans Viking style when it launches this coming Tuesday the 19th. Nevertheless, public perceptioncan be difficult to change… especially after such a bad first impression, but I'd like to remind everybody of another little game that suffered from a lackluster E3 coming-out party. That game was Halo, and I think we all know how that story ended."

I don't think I've seen such a love/hate reception before.

I found the demo boring and bland. I might give it a shot later, maybe, when its in the cheap bin.

Plenty of other games worth my time till then.

Because sometimes the second time is better. It definitely changed my mind-after my first playthrough, I was wondering why the hell I had been excited for it. Then I decided to give it another chance and it just clicked with me.

Nice thread TC. The article you linked is a great read on why this game will be overlooked by many :( . I pre-ordered it and can't wait to get started. The GameStop pre-order includes the 5 extra armors which should be cool. I've played through 4 times and each time I got more comfortable with the controls and liked it more and more with each play through.

We're saying you should play through the demo a few times to get a feel for it, as is the article.

Gamers these days-they want instant gratification. Back in ye oldenne days-my heyday-you had games like Baldur's Gate 2, in which you didn't even level up the first time or get decent equipment for over an hour, you had games like System Shock 2 that didn't even give you a chance to viably customize your character until almost three hours in (the stuff before that was just token survivability stuff like endurance and standard weapons), you had games like Half-Life in which you didn't even fight an enemy for over fifteen minutes, and, of course, games like Fallout 2 in which your first hour was spent killing geckos and ants with spears. Instant gratification isn't the only way to enjoy games.

Assassin's Creed is a terrible game... that I own, and played threw. You do the same thing over and over and over again, with no ,NONE at all, varaitation... and the hideing mechanics in that game... are so stupid... like hide in these piles of hay that are everywhere, blend in to these random schollars who are everwhere..Hide in these rooftop things that are all over the place... and sit on a bench and the guards won't be able to see you... ... like.... ... if that's what TH is living up to... then ugh.

[QUOTE="mistervengeance"]you shouldn't have to play a game through to like it. it should be fun to play the first time through, and that is something it is not IMO. this game is severely flawed.thepwninator

IT's not about instant gratification... it's about making a good first impression... which TH does not.

Hence why people are saying that if you didn't like it, you might want to try it again. If it's that first impression that is preventing people from giving it a fair crack, they might miss out on a game they could reall really enjoy, which would be a shame.

TH is a strange game where there is a sudden point when playing through it that it all just clicks. I just hope a few more people give it another try and experience that moment.

None of the games I mentioned did that either, with the exception of BG2-Half-Life's beginning had my brother and I thinking the game would be rather boring, Fallout 2's had me thinking that if the rest of the game were as boring as that, the money I had spent was well-wasted, and SS2's had me wondering how the hell I could possibly not make a broken character. Some games don't draw you in well or even give decent first impressions, but end up being truly amazing. And I have seen many people say something along the lines of "I played it for ten minutes and immediately deleted it", and if that's not indicative of a generation of gamers that knows nothing but instant gratification, I don't know what is.

Actually both Half-Life and System Shock 2 had great intros that really sucked me into the games. Half-Life is still the best opening sequence of all time IMO.

Fallout 2 was boring in the start and it never stopped being boring. *puts up anti-nostalgia flameshield*
