If I want to watch Blu-Ray movies, I'll buy a PS3 or some other player that won't RROD on me in the middle of the movie, I wouldn't watch them on a device that's in and out of repair.briand07
I agree, and this is why I never bought the hd-dvd add on when it came out. My 360 has rrod'd once already and id rather get the most out of it gaming than use its short life span on movies.

Do you really think people who own a 360 sit there and worry about the RROD?
My 360 died RROD on me a couple of month ago. You send it in and in a couple of weeks you get it back fix or replaced. Big deal.
The only reason am playing my PS3 just now is because i bought COD4 for the PS3 when my 360 had the RROD problem. I would have bought COD4 for the 360 because the 360 has better online option. Send friend invite in the game, send game invite in the game, send messages in the game etc
People who own a 360 will have a choice to buy the blu-ray player if they want one and not forced to like Sony does. Dont even say it needed for gaming as 95% of games could be done without the blu-ray disk.
How many people buy loads of blu-ray movies? I wont buy many blu-ray movies until the price comes down.
Its just one more thing to plug in and will take up space.
Really pointless because it wont be used for games.

Lol ya just like good old microsoft forced everyone to buy AA batterys also the 360 is only $50 cheeper then the 40gb ps3 so i wouldnt call it forced because it practical freeoh and even if the 360 does use a blu-ray add on its a win for sony since they will then get money on every add on sold plus when microsoft have there new 720 out and it uses blu ray games sony will get even more money
Sony won't get money for the add ons as they do not own bluray it's a bunch of companys who are apart of bluray, and i think samsung are the main men in the bluray camp, so Microsoft will just need permission to use it.
On topic: Yes it is pointless to buy a bluray add-on, and the better option is to buy a ps3 for bluray.
Here is my 2 cents. Microsoft should just can this idea (if its true) for the following reasons.
1. Mandatory Blu-Ray player in PS3 means that casuals who wouldnt probably buy a game system will buy it as a Blu-Ray player and then later on they may decide to buy games for it, much like how the PS2 got so popular due to DVDs. On the other hand, no casual who isnt really interested in video games, is going to buy and X360 PLUS a $150-$250 (im guessing here) just to watch a blu-ray movie. They would rather just buy a PS3 which is upgradeable through firmware or just buy a stand alone Blu-Ray player which will probably have more feautres and be more aesthetically pleasing. Imagine having to lug around your X360 and a little square box when ever u want to set up a blu-ray movie at your friends place....
2. Remember the GC DVD addon? remember how it didnt sell well? people dont like added accessories. It just feels like they are being milked and they see it as being time consuming. Think about something like a computer. People will buy the stock premade computers beause its easy, fast and already made, rather than getting sumone to make a cheaper one that will probably cost them $100s of dollars less. Ppl are willing to pay a lil more for a all-in-one package than to have to scavange seperate parts for a little cheaper. Now imagine if the choice is between a PS3 with everything included or having to buy 2 products just to do the same thing as the PS3....most casuals out for just a BR-player will probably opt for the simpler choice, considering most of your parents probably dunno how to set up a DVD player, let alone a PS3, imagine having to set up an X360 and the BR-player.
IMO MS would just be better off releasing an X360 with all the same features as the PS3. I mean instead of beating around the bush, just release and X360 that comes with a harddrive, wifi, hdmi, lots of fans and vents, blu-ray integrated, and controllers u can recharge while playing by using a USB cord connected to the X360. Do they think that if they add these features 1 by 1 people wont notice that they are adding everything they once ridiculed their competitors for?
your joking right ? sony is pretty much the biggest part of the blu-ray camp and they even own the blu-ray logo also i lol at "Microsoft will just need permission to use it" will ya they will need permission along with a wad of cashSony won't get money for the add ons as they do not own bluray it's a bunch of companys who are apart of bluray, and i think samsung are the main men in the bluray camp, so Microsoft will just need permission to use it.

Its amazing that nearly everyone on this board accepts that 360s break all the time. They seriously dont. People think that if your playing a game RROD, if your turn ur 360 on RROD, if you look at ur 360 RROD. Its not all that bad really.
And im sure alot of movie fanatics would buy a blue ray add-on....

They dont break ALL the time but 1 in 3 speaks for itself[QUOTE="briand07"]If I want to watch Blu-Ray movies, I'll buy a PS3 or some other player that won't RROD on me in the middle of the movie.xbox3604lyf

i have to agree with you, ppl overexaggerate the RROD situation. It does happen, but looking at system wars u would think that its lucky to have your X360 work when in reality its the other way around, its UNLUCKY to have it break, meaning that more often that not, your X360 will be fine.

Sony owns the logo, but, like CD and SACD, it was developed with Philips.
Contributing to the development of the format were/are **** Pioneer, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp and Samsung.
The current Board of Directors is comprised of:
Apple
Dell
HP
Hitachi
LG
Mitsubishi Electric
Panasonic
Pioneer
Philips
Samsung
Sharp
Sony
Sun Microsystems
TDK
Thomson
Twentieth Century Fox
Walt Disney
Warner Bros...
Sony does not "own" Blu-ray.
i was making the point to the other guy who said sony will get the money, but they will have to share it out. Bluray uses a codec of microsofts so they will make money too. I know they have to pay for it like developers and the unreal engine, but i was just saying sony don't get paid by microsoft if you know what i mean.
and its not 1 in 3 more like 16% of all in 2 years, so its not that bad rrod.

They dont break ALL the time but 1 in 3 speaks for itselfMines never rrod, so i guess that invalidates your reasoning, as your logic dictates that all 360's will in fact rrod during a movie, when in fact, the majority wont. So i guess i have every reason to buy a BD add on for my 360 then huh? Except i already have 2 bd players. PS, 16% isnt 1 in 3.
I think I'll buy one, if it comes out, coz firstly I already own a 360 and it has been great for over a year and a half now. So for, what I believe, will be a small cost compared to a ps3 or stand alone blu ray player, I can amazingly enough, watch blu ray movies.screamingdoom
Your my new favorite person on SW.

wow so you can copy and past bidg deal i also never said sony owns blu-ray but they do have a lot of say in it withSony ,panasonic & Philips were the founders of BD. With sony and Philips owning the most shares in it in other words sony and philips alone could over turn the decision of every other member of the board
Sony owns a LOT. Sure, there are a ton of companies who are part of the BDA, but the BDA is the promotions group. Sony and Pioneer share the patents for the original technology called DVR-Blu, then BD-RE, and currently Blu-Ray.
And don't forget... having SONY own major movie studios/films is a big plus for supporting a format.
