[QUOTE="wis3boi"]

if it's a lot of content for a decent price I might get it, but then again, I don't really own many games that sell 'maps'

wis3boi

TF2 is the best example of what you said. I mean, even at full price the game was amazing value, but NOW WHEN IT"S FREE

It's like Christmas everyday

I laugh when I look back at how many maps the game shipped with, and then I load it up and see all the ones I got for free, plus custom ones. Poor console version is still vanilla with no tweaks

lmao, the Console tears get more and more tasty every day.

This reasoning doesnt make sense.

Black Ops for instance (a game with hundreds/thousands of hours of replay value) shipped with 15 maps on the disk, and if you buy all of the map packs you end up getting 20 MORE maps than the game shipped with. That is literally an entire game worth of content.

People cry about this all day, when at the end of the day, most FULL games dont even ship with that much content as CoD's map packs, nor do they have the replay value.

MW2 came with 12 maps. Call of Duty 4 came with 16 maps. Paying the same prices for the games every year and getting less. I will not support Activision's shady business practices.

Mw 2 has spec ops. 12 maps and spec ops is more work than 16 maps

I used to buy them back in the day. If their good maps and you really love the game I don't mind. Now I don't play games enough to warrent paying anymore than I already have for the game.

When you have a favorite online game, you play for hundred+ hours, and by that time you're sick of the maps. I only ever bought one map pack, the first in Black Ops, but that was because I put in over 200 hrs in that game and wanted a change. By the time the rest came out I was just too burnt out on that game to care. For some people, it's the only game they play so I can understand wanting to further the experience. What I can't understand is games like Battlefield that ship with too few of maps.

Before developers realized that they were spending their time making free content when they could be making money or making a new game.

I liked the idea when they charged for the maps at first and then later made them free. I only experienced that with Halo 2 though. Not sure who else done this.

Yeah and way before development costs rose, i'd go as far as saying that this gen ended up so ****ed up because game development is simply too expensive at this time, its either indie developers or major publishers now and thats precisely what went wrong.

all dlc should be avoided! gives the companies more room for milking us. if everyone stopped being milked we'd see more of this stuff on the already expensive games we buy.daveg1

Never heard of the GTA expansions, Burnout Paradise DLC, Fallout 3/New Vegas DLC, Rock Band songs, and Shiverling Isles for Oblivion have you?

I forgot to mention Undead Nightmare for RDR, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, and the Borderlands expansions.

Well, back in the day it was a ways of expanding on a current game without releasing a sequel. More maps would released when players demanded them, so to speak.

Dev's shouldn't charge for maps because it splits the players between the ones who will and will not buy the maps. I hate it.

Even if they're a decent deal, EVERY game has them now (just about), and nobody is going to buy ALL the maps for EVERY game. Dev's need to learn this and find a different way to make money and stop splitting the audience.

Because the default maps aren't enough for me and some of the new maps add variety.
