Source:http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/85621/rumor-wii-successor-controller-details-publishers-have-dev-kits/

"Sources have confirmed toEDGE Magazinethat third-party studios including those of Electronic Arts, Activision and Ubisoft have had development kits of the Wii successor for months.

The sources also claim that the unit will retain motion-control with capabilities that "better than Move" - speaking of course about the PlayStation 3's own motion-controller. They speak of higher fidelity but no word if this controller solution uses a camera.

The new console might not even have the Wii name, as Nintendo is actively pursuing the Western market and will most likely launch a whole new brand with its new system.

IGN has new details regarding the controller, it says from theirreportthat the controller's display will be far more complex than what we've seen from the Dreamcast and its VMU, and that "working simultaneously with the console to bring interactive elements and even stream full games to the controller."

IGN also have a mock-up of the rumored controller, which you can check out at theirsite."

IGN's concept Project Cafe controller:

This is all really cool, like the article stated IGN has an entire article dedicated to talking about the Wii 2 controller:http://gear.ign.com/articles/116/1162204p1.html

Check it out :) and before people get angry at me for me calling it the Wii 2, that's the only name we have for it right now so that's what it'll be called until there's an official name. Also, the Wii 2 is pretty much a given because these "rumors" are everywhere and we're getting constant information. I find it interesting how they're aiming for the western market with this new system. This looks to be the console I've wanted Nintendo to release for some time now.

Rumor from NeoGAF: The Wii HD is powered by the AMD Trinity

"The folks atNeoGAFhave done some detective work and determined that the Wii HD will supposedly be released in Fall 2012 and will be powered by the AMD Trinity."

In the past NeoGAF members have been correct such as the Mass Effect 2 on PS3 rumor that started up there, so this is questionable, but also pretty cool if true.

I like the idea of the controller, but it won't look like that at all.

and it'd be great if nintendo used the amd trinity, it's around the 5750 level in power but is super compact and energy effecient.

huge jump from the ps3 and 360 :P

Exactly :D and I can see a lot of developers moving on to the Wii 2 since we've heard complaints about hardware restrictions on current gen consoles. I'd love to see what they'll do with the screen on the controller. Maybe we can have the game screen mostly empty, online including a health bar and ammo or stamina/mana for RPG's, and all the menu stuff or inventory stuff will be kept on the screen on the controller. It's a good way of getting rid of clutter, or an Assassins Creed/Elder Scrolls map in controller screen, so you won't need to constantly check it. This is a really great idea that can turn out amazing if used correctly. A 2012 release date would be perfect since they'd be a step ahead of the competition and would rake in the devs and money. My hype just went up 200% :P

That controller there actually wouldn't be too bad, but they're saying the screen is 6". That would take up almost that entire controller. Its gonna be a tablet sort of thing.

If the rumours are 90 - 100% accurate, which i doubt, otherwise they wouldn't be called rumours. It could still be true that there will a screen of some sort, but at 3".

I'd rather go by the rumors I'm given than make up more of my own. You could just have easily said its gonna have a 9" screen that you have to lick to get Mario to jump. I'm just saying according to the current rumors, that controller is way off. But yeah, we'll just have to wait and see.

What about all the people that ARE fond of the Wii?
If this is true it seems that Nintendo is abandoning the whole idea of "expanding the market", so far 'Cafe' looks like a standard old school console. What's setting it apart from the rest?
Giving up on motion control - that works really well - seems like a very odd decision.

If you read the OP it clearly says that they are still using motion controls and that they are "better than Move."

My 'rumours' are just as good as theirs. Who leaked it? What sources? And 50%, at least, is basic speculation using what little they may have. I'm not gonna jump on anything like that, but rather just go with the flow and speculate my self using logic and the little that may be something, 'till E3.

Anyway, here's some well tought speculation, using raw logic.

I'm sure they have a strategy to keep those who were fond of the Wii, but also bring in their N64/Game Cube fans. Nintendo wouldn't just abandon their Wii fanbase. It will be a cross breed between Wiimote and Dreamcast controller probably, maybe when it's vertical it's wiimote, but if it's horizontal, it's a dreamcast controller. Something like that only more complicated.

I'm only saying there's no need to start more rumors. So far everyone is reporting these same rumors and claiming the sources are from within the industry. Game Informer went so far as to say it was confirmed. They're still rumors, though, and the less we have the better. And using logic to determine what a Nintendo console will be like? C'mon, man. Nintendo doesn't even do that. :P

This could be the console that wins me over back to Nintendo. They always make some really fun games and unique compared to the rest of the industry. Always loved Nintendo but not the Wii. Though the Wii is the most console of all the consoles. I could careless about the online; I have a PC to game online. =D

i havent heard of AMD trinity. all i could gather is that its the next gen replacement for the current Llant fusion APUs and will have bulldozer tech. fusion APUs dont tend to clock high at the mo (though clocks dont tell us everything of course) so one wont be offering 360/PS3 beating performance on its own by the looks of it....i think. again my info is very sketchy at the mo..if anyone has a good link handy on AMD trinity then id love to have a look. still even if one is not good enough ninty could be thinking of having 2 or 3 and a lump of ram (assuming the rumour holds up of course..there is a conflicting rumour regarding specs). 3 trinities for example could offer much more umph. basically 6 bulldozer modules and 3 DX11 GPUs with 80+ stream processors a piece. mutli GPU can be a bit of a pain for PCs as drivers have to basically guess at dishing out the workload (though the latest is its much better now in terms of reliability and scaling up performance) but 3 GPUs and to the metal programming of consoles could be very interesting for devs and us in performance.

There in lies the problem. If I have an HDTV, why put a 6" screen on the controller? It will just go unused. Have to give them brownie points for some sort of innovation though and the actual controller looks much better than previous controllers from Nintendo. If they offer one without the screen I will probably be getting a second one beyond the one that presumably comes with the console, I imagine they will be rather expensive.

The screen could actually be pretty useful for checking maps, inventory screen, reading and responding to messages (touch type) while in game, and a buttload of other things. It may turn out to be pretty cool. 6" screen though. That still seems like way too much to me.

Well, what I'm basically getting from all these reports is that in terms of power the Wii 2 will be like the Dreamcast compared to the XBox and GC. Which is really pretty good compared to what the Wii was at least, lol.

Nintendo always sells at a profit and they tend to sell systems at good launch prices, so at least we won't see any "five hundred and ninety nine US dollars :D" at E3.

Just thought of something, BRAINSTORM.

Imagine how low the battery life will be on the controller with a screen, not to mention the cost. If it is going to have a screen then something tells me it will be removable like the Dreamcast VMU and not necessary for every game. This would also make extra controllers very cheap if all you need is a shell.

Also, when this visual unit is removed it becomes a standalone touchscreen handheld. Perhaps with a phone function or even acting as the consoles Wi-Fi adapter when connected to the controller. Virtual Console on the go? Maybe even using it to store saved games and take them to someone elses house. Take your N6 mini everywhere you go?

For motion control games replace the visual unit with a Wiimote, using the visual unit as the sensor bar. If the viusal unit has a camera or camera's then it could work similar to Move, or even Kinect. Double blow to the competition, triple even counting Apple.

Nah, I don't think battery life will be a problem. This is a console so it'll just come with a charging cable, but I like your idea of using it as a base for all controllers. The visual unit is the base controller which can be attached to multiple peripherals or controllers, that'd be pretty cool. No way will it be a Virtual Console on the go though, that'd make the console cost too much, way too much.

Yeah maybe the other way round, with the visual unit as the base and not the controller shell. But I really meant battery life would be a problem if the screen is not removable with its own power source. I think the battery life would be like 6 hours at most with a built-in screen, rumble and motion. Therefore I think the visual unit would have multiple functions as a standalone device. I'm getting myself a little confused now here :P

Maybe not a VC on the go either, but maybe powerful enough to handle something like the PS3's mini's. The Dreamcast VMU played games, but they were really simple so the idea is sound.

Man, now i really have to go to E3 somehow....i wanna see this thing up close

so, how much more powerful is a trinity compared to what PS3 and 360 have? My only concern is that when sony and MS decide to do their next consoles it'll be much more powerful than a trinity and then we'll be right back to square one with the wii 2 not being as powerful as the next MS and sony consoles and nintendo would once again miss out on multiplats

[QUOTE="osan0"]i havent heard of AMD trinity. all i could gather is that its the next gen replacement for the current Llant fusion APUs and will have bulldozer tech. fusion APUs dont tend to clock high at the mo (though clocks dont tell us everything of course) so one wont be offering 360/PS3 beating performance on its own by the looks of it....i think. again my info is very sketchy at the mo..if anyone has a good link handy on AMD trinity then id love to have a look. still even if one is not good enough ninty could be thinking of having 2 or 3 and a lump of ram (assuming the rumour holds up of course..there is a conflicting rumour regarding specs). 3 trinities for example could offer much more umph. basically 6 bulldozer modules and 3 DX11 GPUs with 80+ stream processors a piece. mutli GPU can be a bit of a pain for PCs as drivers have to basically guess at dishing out the workload (though the latest is its much better now in terms of reliability and scaling up performance) but 3 GPUs and to the metal programming of consoles could be very interesting for devs and us in performance.painguy1

3 Trinity's? 1 Trinity is enough

will it? outside of itll have bulldozer CPUs and a DX11 GPU (which could be anything from the lowest of the lowest HD5000 series to a 6990) i cant find much info. how many cores doe it have? whats the GPU? how many SPs does it have? for fast are the CPUs? how fast is the GPU? does it prefer coffee or tea (it better be a coffee lover or it would lead to major dissapointment :P)?

All these rumors about the controllers are absolutely terrible. A 6 inchscreen in a gamepad is seriously one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. For all I know it could sell like gangbusters, but I hope that controller is sooo fake.

this is nintendo we are talking about here....they're crazy and insane and their ideas and innovations are always out of the ordinary....but it somehow always works amazingly in the end for them and all their competitors copy them and ride their coat tail of success

So far it looks interesting but I don't like the idea of the screen on the controller if that was true probably 4 controllers will cost more than the new system.

That controller would rock! Imagine playing an fps and being able to touch the screen on the controller to select a weapon/use something from the inventory. It could be used for playcalling in sports games. It would completely eliminate the need to press start and navigate an invertory in rpg's. It just has a ton of applications.

Yeah, only it's a ds linked to a console that plays games better than the Xbox 360 and PS3.

No, their innovations are not out of the ordinary at all. Touchscreens and motion controlls have had gaming implications for a long time, Nintendo was just the first one that was willing to take a risk with them. The DS controlls turned out amazing, the Wii worked fairly well for what it was too. I firmly believe however that the touch screen in a controller will not work well for gamers at all, commercial success aside. Would there be unique experiences for such a device? Yes there would, but I don't think the costs of adding the screen would be worth the benefits.

I wouldn't be all that surprised if they just released a Wii HD that had graphics almost as good as the Xbox 360. Announcing nothing at all would be much better than that.
