Mario is in dear need of a retirement. It has reached a point where using the word "milking" is understated.

Platforming Mario (Dozens of games in this category)

JLF1

Dozens of Mario platformers? Lets list em, and before I do I'll say this.. DOZENS implied 24 or more, as dozens is multiple 12's.

Super Mario Brothers(NES), Super Mario Brothers 2(NES), Super Mario Brothers 2 (JP)(NES), Super Mario Brothers 3(NES), Super Mario World(SNES), Super Mario World 2(SNES), Super Mario 64(N64), Super Mario Sunshine(GCN)(man he is super), Super Mario Galaxy(WII), New Super Mario Brothers(DS), Super Mario Land(GB), Super Mario Land 2(GB), Super Mario Land 3(GB),....

Wait, thats only 9(now 14)... lets see, thats 13(9 now) shy of dozens, or did I miss 13+(9+ now) games? I wont list the Paper Mario games as they are not true platformers(cept maybe Super Paper Mario)... How many Ratchet and Clank games are there? 7 of them, wow and even had TWO release the same year (2004).. People(cows) bash Nintendo for releasing a lot of Mario games..OH wait, I just remember a few other Mario platformers.... I'll add those, not gonna add ports to other systems(Super Mario Deluxe, as it is the same game as the original). 14 games spread across 7 systems and 23 years.. so Mario has some staying power but far from old.

Throw in the ports, also add in All stars and its close enough. I'm not going to bother counting the exact numbers of platform releases/rehashes as I was hoping most people would get the general idea of what I'm trying to say. You sound almost offended.

It was a figure of speech with a little hint of sarcasm, which nowadays don't seem to exist. Either ways, you still cant deny the endless number of spinoffs being released under Mario's name. The fact that a spinoff (Mario Party) has already reached its eight installment is astonishing. This is my issue with Ninty, they can make great games, but they honestly need to come up with a new installment once in awhile with a fresh new universe.

Then I strongly suggest that you start hating on Final Fantasy and SquareEnix as well.

I do, I hate them for no longer bringing out great original titles like Vagrant Story and Xenogears. But the thing you have to give to Final Fantasy games is that with each numbered installment, its a completely different storyline with a different set of characters. Yes, I've seen the various spinoffs (chocobo racing) and I dont necessarily like them, however, compared to Nintendo's methods, it's not nearly as bad.

When you mention the term "Mario" being linked to a good quality sports product, its not really saying much when the Wii is abundant with 1/10 sports titles such Kidz Sports Basketball and Kidz Sports Ice Hockey. Mario games are not so much good quality anymore so much as they are an alternative to a library of completely horrible titles within the same genre.

Every new Mario game has a new story, levels, gameplay mechanics etc etc.

[QUOTE="TheXboxgamer73"]I completely agree with TC. I'm not going to say Nintendo wasn't ever a good company, but their current set of progress is absolutely horrible. Honestly, do we really need another version of Mario Party, Mario Kart, or Super Smash Bros? They are all the same, and they are the only games that are half decent ( if you decide you want to play them again for the 20th time). Every other third party title on the Wii is a joke...Kawasaki Jetski? Ninjabread Man? Bubble Pop? Kidz Sports Series? So sad. I wish Nintendo would stop dwelling on their past success and think up some new ideas for the future.Tylendal

Should we list some of the wonderful games for the 360? Like Bomberman: Act Zero, Hour of Victory, and that History Channel game.. How bout we list the Ps2 crap? We don't have enough room for that so I wont try.

Actually, I think we should list some of the wonderful games for the Xbox 360. Lets see, Call of Duty 2 & 4 were amazingly intense shooters, Mass Effect was epic, BioShock was amazing, Dead Rising was a test of open world mall awesomeness, Condemned 1 & 2 were graphic and intense powerhouses, Saints Row was a blast, and Grand Theft Auto 4 is shaping up to be one of the greatest games of all time. And the really funny thing is that not a single one of these games is anywhere to be found on the WII. Oh well, I guess Luxor and London Taxi Rush Hour are good substitutes. Not.

Actually, the really funny thing is that Galaxy is officially better than any of those games.

Actually, no it is not. If you are gonna compare Wii game to 360 or ps3 games, lets also use the same scoring scheme that 360 and ps3 share, shall we?

Rating for Galaxy:

Graphics: 6 (we all know the game doesn't compare in thhis field to what 360 or ps3 have to offer)

Gameplay: 10 (undoubtedly VERY good)

Story: 5 (must i say more)

Presetation: 9.5

Replay Value: 9

Grand Total of....7.9/10.

Now, this is what the game would have prolly gotten if it was Wii had the same standards that 360 and ps3 share, but ofcourse, Wii doesn't , so therefore, SMG got higher, so please stop compairing Wii games to ps3/360 when the expectations aren't even the same. Ok, i know, you guys are compaining about the story, well, ill take that off then and just count the rest, thats still about an 8.6. So you see, don't compare Wii games to other console games with higher expectations. Anyways, i think SMG is really good, and i would give it a score of around 9 cause it was sooo much fun!

The only thing I see as repetitive is military shooter # 1018 on PS3/360. I don't understand why you say that Wii has unoriginal games.. Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, SSBB are vastly different.dracula_16

i really dont see how any of thsoe 3 games are really different from their gamecube/n64 versions...

Halo 3
Condemned 2

Ninja gaiden 2
Call of duty 2,3,4
Dead or Alive 4
Forza 2
Project Gotham Racing 3,4

Yeah the originality:roll:

What are you even talking about? Not once did I mention that I thought Halo 3 was original. You assume since I prefer the Xbox 360 as my next gen system that I automatically take refuge as a Halo fanboy, when in fact I dont like Halo at all. And your post proves nothing, except that the Xbox 360 has excellent quality sequels. Just because a game isn't the first in the series, that doesnt make it unoriginal. Most Wii games on the other hand, have been completely reused and rewashed to the point of abuse. And last time I checked, I believe it was Call of Duty 4 that won game of the year.

Well, aside for the old FF (but good) ports to DS, Square makes new IPs (even though they are labelled FF, they are completely different games), plus, they have ALOT of different IPs such as "the work ends with you", "Final fantasy: Dissidea", "Dragon Quest", "Star Ocean", "Kingdom Hearts"... anyways, you get the idea.

This is just silly. First off, you don't rate the story. The story carries you through the game, and gives you an objective. We aren't expecting a cinimatic game, so it's served it's purpose. Anyway, you already took out the story score.

Next, the graphics. It doesn't deserve a six, it deserves a zero. As do all games ever made. We have the technology to produce photo-realistic holo-grams, so why aren't we rating by those standards?

Well, maybe they didn't want to be bias to the Wii, cause that WOULD be clearly unfair for Wii cause if that were they case, it would prolly never be in the nominations, let alone GOTY. And ofcourse, i DID say that SMG is a good game!

You claimed that call of Duty 2,4 was amazing intense shooters when we all now that these games are casualized from the first call of duty.

Watch this please.

This is all based on GameSpot's claim that Galaxy was game of the year, not any other source. It is hard to believe because, even though the game was good, it definitely wasn't mind blowing, nor was the concept of the game remotely different from Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. All 3 games are based on the idea of Mario going to a bunch of random places and doing mini fetch quests for stars to unlock new areas to catch more stars..yada yada yada..eventually you have enough stars to fight Bowser and everyone is saved. Wow, so epic, someone grab me an oxygen tank I can barely breathe from the excitement...sike... bed time.

Not really, personally i don't really care, as you can see by the number of posts, I'm not a hardcore gamer. So i don't take games too seriously (unlike you and many others, unfortunately). Oh and btw, i've had this account for.... about 4-5 years now, so me joining just now is not an excuse.

It's the second highest rated game of all time.

Why is it so hard to accept this?

[QUOTE="TheXboxgamer73"]This is all based on GameSpot's claim that Galaxy was game of the year, not any other source. It is hard to believe because, even though the game was good, it definitely wasn't mind blowing, nor was the concept of the game remotely different from Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. You expect me to sit here and cry defeat to your mastery of linking me to a website that catagorizes best games of all time based on a compilation of reviewers scores? Why is it so hard for me to accept this? I've beaten Super Mario Galaxy, and like I said, I thought it was good, but I've played a thousand other games I've believed to be much better.

Actually Wii seems to be the most varied system when it comes to AAA games (note I said AAA games not AAAe). It's top games are Zelda, Super Mario Galaxy, Okami, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, No More Hero's, and Resident Evil 4 Wii edition, while the top 360, PS3 and to an extent PC games are Call of Duty 4, BioShock, Halo 3, another shooter, a fifth shooter, another shooter...see my point? So you shoot different enemies with a new gun every game, at least Nintendo gives me action adventure, fighting, platforming, and shooting all in one.

Your missing a few titles for the 360, and PS3 if you are going to use AAAs. 360 also has forza 2, Assassins creed, Oblivion, Rock band, GRAW, Gears, The orange box, etc... Not every single tittle is a FPS. Those titles right there give you a racing sim, action adventure, rpg, party game, platformer, and of course shooters (regular, tactical, and 3rd person).

The 360 is the most diverse console at this time, it even has tittles in genres which the Wii doesnt even have a single tittle in. (RTS, racing sim, Wrpg, etc...)

Personally if I see Mario in another game, I'm going to explode, I know he will never die and he is a timeless character that sells millions of games just because he is in it..but come on Nintendo make a new franchise already. I would have much rather seen a new let say pickmen game than SMG, sure it's the third instalment but mario is on his what...50th? including sports titles?

Give Mario a rest for a while and work with some new material, keep the inovative ideas but give Mario some time off.

Mario is in dear need of a retirement. It has reached a point where using the word "milking" is understated.

Platforming Mario (Dozens of games in this category)

wootasifwoot

Dude, Mario has made appearances in over 200 GAMES within those 23 years. Thats approximately 9 video games every year since then (yeah, i know at times that actually didn't happen, but I'm just making an educated guess, I know in some years he could have appeared more or less than 9 times), versus 7 R&C games? How is that a comparison? Plus, not everyone who owns a PS brags about ratchet as much as people who own a Wii brag about Mario (please, don't say its cause Mario is better, its all about preference).

And if you read what I quoted, and HIGHLIGHTED you would see I was talking about proper platformers... Mario tennis is not a platformer, Mario baseball is not a platformer.. I wont go on cuz I'm sure you get my point... Its not about Mario being better? Mario plaotformers are rated better.... and imo, are better platformers than anything on the Playstation brand.

Yh I am also sick of mario. Nintendo milks him way too much. I hated SMG. It was a bad game IMO. It was basically the same thing again. Collect stars etc. Hell, even the last boss was bowser. (You'd think that stupid giant turtle would have toasted mario by now)

Nintendo really needs to think of something new and stop dwelling in the past. Make more games like NMH. Bring back Pikmin. If they continue soon we will see Mario cooking, Mario gardening, Mario party 156, Mario surfing mario this mario that....

I completely agree with TC. So sad. I wish Nintendo would stop dwelling on their past success and think up some new ideas for the future.TheXboxgamer73

your joking right, ssb only has 3 games in the franchis, mario kart has 4, and mario party has 8, all together they don't even add up to 20

Everything is like super mario and they just use the same characters in most of their games i think that they should start thinking of some new ideas

It's easy to see which people never play Mario, and just base their opinions on some images or videos they've seen online.

Main Mario games come out less frequently than R&C/Jax and Daxter/Halo/COD whatever, etc.

What is a "main mario game"? And the games you named are series, and how many mario parties are there?

You just described any game in that genre. That's like criticizing a racing game because you drove some sort of vehicle on some type of track.

It's a vicious cycle.

They try to make a new franchise with pikmin...no one buys it.

well if you expect to win an argument just using your own opinion...you're gonna lose. Anyone can pull an opinion out of thee arse and slap it onto a forum post.

It's the general consensus that SMG was the best game released in 2007.

If you can't deal with it ...then tough luck

Fanboys complain that Nintendo just repeats itself when making Mario platformers and they're all the same.

This is not true. Every 2d mario has improved a ton since the last one(maybe not the Japanese Mario 2) and the 3 3D Marios are completely different.

Sunshine is very different than Mario 64, and Galaxy too. The fanboys just keep on complaining. Either they complain because there's no change or then they complain because there's too much change.

"I don't like cleaning the world of graffiti, why can't this be like Mario 64?."

"F.L.U.D.D. sucks! I don't want Mario to have a water jetpack!"

"Galaxy is just a gravity gimmick and it has stupid camera-angles. And some of the levels are just like in Mario 64."

Personally I think that Mario platformers are a blast, and I can't wait for the next one.

I think it would get less, because of how ugly and broken Mario 64 is by todays standards.

Yeah this is true, no one cares anymore about Mario kart Mario Sports or Mario galaxy there games with a good character and that is the only reason why people buy these type of games. They were good at first but are getting way to repetative.
