Arg pie charts!

Seriously I sell alot of Wii's where I work, yet I see so few games purchased I think most people stick to Wii sports and high profile games. Third party gets shafted bad when it comes to Wii games, most people know 9/10th's of Third party stuff is crap.

Jynxzor

Thats why 3rd party stuff does not sell.

This makes no sense. If third party games are "crap", how are they getting shafted? Crap games don't deserve to sell well. Personally, I've bought two third party games in the last 10 days.

"there are many titles that have sold over 1,000,000 on the 360 which is why we see so many developers making games for it."

There are nine Wii games that have sold over 1 million so far. There will be about 12-13 by the end of the year.

At this point in it's lifecycle the 360 had 5-6 games with 1 million+ sales.

[QUOTE="funnymario"]This just says the games the Wii has right now are selling. That doesn't mean they're any good.mjarantilla

So? If they sell, they sell. If third parties see that even crappy games are selling well, they must then deduce that GOOD games will sell even BETTER.

Unfortunately, this isn't the case.

Of course that's the case. That was the case with the NES, SNES, the PS1, and the PS2. Why should it be any different now?

50 cent bulletproof vs Okami completelyshatters that illusion.

It is not written in stone that because a crappy game sells that a quality game will do well too. Especially on a casual friendly console like the Wii.

The average number of games sold per console. Acquired by dividing total software sales with total hardware sales.

For example, if there have been 12 million 360s sold in total worldwide, and there have been 90 million games sold for the 360 (boxed games only, not demos or XBLA games), then the attach rate is 7.5 games sold per system.

a) That was an extraordinary situation influenced by the lack of (or preponderance of) mass media marketing.

b) I meant it as a general rule of thumb to predict mass movements, not as an absolute commandment applicable to specific situations. And by "good games," I really meant high-budget, high-profile games (which a corporate entity like EA would view as "good").

[QUOTE="eddy_of_york"]12.5 million software sales...something like that? And about 11 million consoles out in the first year right?

And the 360 sold what...11 million pieces of software and had half the hardware sales of the wii?

Maybe I'm reading these wrong, but it doesn't look like an ausome attach rate.mjarantilla

12.5 million software sales in the US alone. And it's NOT first year, it's January to September. The Wii has only sold about 3 million consoles between January to September, averaging 300,000 per month. The 360 managed about 2 million. So yes, the 360 has a higher attach rate, but not much higher. Besides, attach rate is completely meaningless if your OVERALL software sales are lower than your competitions. Brag all you want, but in the end, publishers look at the OVERALL software sales.

Ok that makes sense, thanks for explaining.

I mean the few good ones still tend to need a double take to sell, just because of the large ammount of crap games.
