A few months ago, I posted that the Wii would be known for a wasteland of shovelware.Professional websites and game magazines will write articles on how BAD the crap is on the Wii.

This month's issue of Game Informer covers just how much crap is on the Wii. 69% of the games on the Wii score in the 60 and below percentile.

The 360 has 47%. The PS3 has 40%.

Close to 70% of the games on the Wii are shovelware. I don't care how GODLY you think SMG and Brawl is - this is bad. They also note, that Wiiware could spark innovative games,... or just more crap.

It looks like the Wii has become the McDonalds of gaming.

The Wii hasn't been out as long as the PS2 - and it's already known for garbage.

From a business perspective, the Wii is making money, but - it's off of junk.

No wai! The fastest selling and cheapest to develop for console has the most shovelware?

Good games don't matter because there are too many crap games.

you can thank Playstation for this. towards the end of the ps2 lifecycle, shovelware started to increase once those companies realized they could make a quick buck. now since the Wii is the cheapest console to program for, they migrated to it.

Thanks Playstation

I said it would have this title, and it's just two to three more articles away from holding that crown.

So? Whats the point? Yeah, it has garbage games. So do the other consoles.

The music industry has crap in it too. So do movies.

All have good quality stuff and bad quality stuff.

Those developers are trying to cash in on the Wii's sucess, but they arent selling well enough to do so.

Another reason why we are seeing more garbage on the Wii than PS3/360 is because development cost on the Wii is really low compared to those two consoles. It should have been expected someones going to exploit the sucess of the Wii and its cheap development cost.

Saying that a system has "too many bad games" doesn't mean anything, nor does putting it in percentile form. The PS2 was one of the greatest systems of all time, and it had plenty of shovelware toward the end of its life cycle. Point being, it's not the bad games that define the system.

Are you seriously going to say that 70% of games being shovelware is a good thing because you have more variety and optinos? Seriously? You're really going to go with that arguement?

Did the PS2 have shovelware? Heck yes. Was it 70% shovelware? Heck no. Did it have a massive library of quality games which easily made up for all the crap? Obviously. Can the same be said of the wii? Definately not.

Ah - so, now, the Nintendo Fans are saying; "So?"Well, on the "The Wii is WINNING THE WAR!! It sold 1 million last month!" point - I say: SO?The Sales Point is no longer valid. Since you feel the GLUT of bad games do not make a system bad, then the sales success clearly does not make it a great or better system. You are not acknowledging the shovelware, therefore, we won't acknowledge the sales. Thanks!:)

its all cause nintendo has like no quality control anymore, you wanna put a game on wii it doesnt matter how bad it is if you can get it developed they just let you do it, i mean, nintendo come on. the stuff you let on this system should not exsist, i understand everyconsole has its bad games like the ds, has sholveware alot of it too, but atleast the ds has enough good exclusive games and other stuff that the wii is just flat out lacking,

No, you were trying to twist a plethora of awful games into a good thing, as "variety and options".

Does anyone force you to buy these games? Obviously not. But the whole point here is that that titles make up the majority of the Wii's library, which is a very bad thing for any gamer.

ogvampire

See how that simply isn't an arguement? :? Of course you dont buy them; they're awful. Why even point that out? The whole issue here is that SEVENTY PERCENT of the Wii's lineup consists of these games. That's the majority of the library made up of awful games no gamer would want to spend money on. Can you not see the problem there? These titles should be the lame cash-ins on the bottom shelf of the game store, below the REAL games. They aren't though. This is the library you have to choose from. Where games actually worth spending money on are in the minority.

The wii is a quality system because as long as there are good games (and there clearly are, even if they're a lot of Nintendo titles), shovelware will not drown the system.

Trying to twist large numbers of shovelware titles into a positive thing is simply the definition of fanboyism. It isn't a good thing. It never will be. Why not just accept that it's an issue? :?

Not 70% though. :?

I am sure its awfully close. The PS2 was geting SO MUCH crap in the last few years that a LOT of games never got reviewed by any major site. Games like this...

http://www.phoenixgamesgroup.com/uk/ps2a.html

...and that is one publisher. Notice how they are now infecting the Wii? Blame the PS2 and crappy devs, not the Wii.

TAKE_IT_BACK

But shovelware clearly is drowning the system as we've just read; it makes up 70% of the library. Rather than a bunch of AAA games with a few stinkers, it's a library of stinkers with a few AAAs. Dont you see the problem with that?

im pretty sure he was just saying that its better to have options than not. a shovelware game is NOT gonna take away a AA-AAA game from the Wii.

Ninja-Hippo

Trying to twist large numbers of shovelware titles into a positive thing is simply the definition of fanboyism. It isn't a good thing. It never will be. Why not just accept that it's an issue? :?

Shovelware is a positive thing. The NES, SNES, PS1, and PS2 all had large amounts of shovelware, and by the end of their generations had more good games than the other consoles that generation. This is a fact.

PS2 had a ton of shovelware.

Point is, who cares? Wii is still selling amazingly well.

travt-down

Not 70% though. :?

I am sure its awfully close. The PS2 was geting SO MUCH crap in the last few years that a LOT of games never got reviewed by any major site. Games like this...

http://www.phoenixgamesgroup.com/uk/ps2a.html

...and that is one publisher. Notice how they are now infecting the Wii? Blame the PS2 and crappy devs, not the Wii.

Who's blaming the wii? It's simply a fact that a lot of the games on it - the majority in fact - aren't worth buying. And that's a bad thing, and an awful shame. Simple.

Shovelware is by no means a positive thing. All shovelware does is detract sales from games made by real developers which people should actually buy. See Sonic Olympics sales vs No More Heroes.

Shovelware doesn't sale.. stop, with the nonsense.

Nintendo had previously been highly ridiculed for having to high of standards. Now that their allowing free market, people still complain. You know it gets annoying after awhile.

Also why are you counting games that got 60% range? How are those shovelware? Most of the 60% range games can be decent.

Sonic Olympics isn't a shovelware title, real shovelware doesn't sell well at all. The only shovelware title that sells well on the Wii would probably be Carnival games, and that isn't really shovelware as well.

The wii is a quality system because as long as there are good games (and there clearly are, even if they're a lot of Nintendo titles), shovelware will not drown the system.

Ninja-Hippo

But shovelware clearly is drowning the system as we've just read; it makes up 70% of the library. Rather than a bunch of AAA games with a few stinkers, it's a library of stinkers with a few AAAs. Dont you see the problem with that?

How many games do you buy a year? for me, probably about 10-12 a year for my wii. Now don't start saying thats tiny, because thats about 1 a month. There are more than 12 good games per year that come out, so thats enough.
