[QUOTE="jangojay"]If you think I'm a nintendo fanboy you are wrong, I just automatically discredit everything this man says. I'm sure halo's sales percent dropped drasitically from the first 4 weeks, why single out brawl? Also

The average Wii owner buys only 3.7 games a year, compared with 4.7 for Xbox 360 owners and 4.6 for PlayStation 3 owners, said a Wedbush Morgan analyst, Michael Pachter.

Where is his for evidence to that? I guess I'm going to just run by his word for it eh?

It's okay to cite Pachter when it comes to stuff like this, if he is talking US. He has access to NPD data.

What is he talking US only?

He doesn't have access to Japanese nor European data, so I guess that means yes.

Wii is not a gaming system, Xbox 360 and PS3 is for gaming. Wii is just simple entertainment, I understand why this is trueToriko42

You have to be kidding me. The Wii can only play games. The PS3 and Xbox 360 have loads of multimedia features, thus stripping them of their videogame console status. They are entertainment multimedia machines.

[QUOTE="Popadophalis"]The hardware sales of the Wii are so large it's inevitable that the tie ratio will be lowered. common sense.MikeE21286

the ratio should be lower....but not the number of games bought on average per year (i.e. attach rate) That should be higher.

Are you sure the attach rate consists of the average number of games bought per year?

We only have access to the top 30 software sales. And Top 500 yearly software.

When I mean "access to Japanese sales" I mean knowing the sales of Watashi no Kitchen, which would be impossible unless you pay thousands to Media Create or Famitsu.

Same with NPD, we only know the Top 10. Pachter knows the game at #11, #12 and so on, because he subscribed to NPD.

the correct title would be "wii has the worst attach rate"

the wii has sold more software than the PS3, so that would indicate to me that no, the wii does not have the worst software sales.

MikeE21286

But there are more Wii owners then 360/PS3 owners and more 360 owners then PS3 owners. So by this logic I can conclude.

  1. Wii sells the most software
  2. 360 sells the second most software
  3. PS3 sells the least software

Is that what you are trying to say?

PS3 sales can't equal 360 sales with the same attach rate. Because guess what. There are more 360's then PS3s....

I strongly doubt Pachter would quote off VGchartz, pulling numbers from his own ass is more likely.

He is talking about the US, I'm 90% sure of it.

Because most of the games out for the Wii seem like an excuse to use the Wiimote, rather than an otherwise solid title that happens to use the Wiimote.

ps3 != xbox 360 software. 360 owners would now own nearly 8 games, and ps3 owners 4. what 4? who knwos they dont even have 4 good games.

I'm sure pacther has numbers of overall sales of games. It's his job. I doubt he grabbed the statistics out of thin air.

im wondering if he's just looking at U.S. sales.

That's the only data he has access to.

In Japan it's X360>Wii>PS3. No one knows about Europe.

which would make sense. world-wide numbers tell a different story

how is the 360 above everything else in Japan?

What in two years time when everyone is preparing for the next consoles? And Wii will be so out of sight in total sales the PS3 could never catch up.

You do realize comparing attachment rates is just about useless if the amount of hardware sold is much different between the consoles, right?

All this article does is prove what the more levelheaded of us have known for more than a year.

The PS3 offers plenty of value for many applications, including its primary function AS A GAMES PLATFORM There are plenty of games for its owners to buy.

The Wii can coexist with the "hardcore" consoles because they are the ones that generate sales. The Wii is expanding the audience, and that's a good thing for games in general.

The "hardcore" audience isn't very interested in the Wii - no offense to you "hardcore" Wii-ites. I own one, I know Brawl is fun.

Now can we all go back to buying and playing the games we like?

I'm not surprised. When i do end up buying a Wii the only titles i'll own are SSBB and SMG. Not much else that's too interesting to me. Granted, i'll rent some. But most just don't feel like a buy to me.

New Wii Games Find a Big (but Stingy) Audience

A number of games that garnered critical acclaim in recent months, notably the cartoonish action-adventure game Zack & Wiki and the off-kilter action-adventure No More Heroes, have yielded disappointing sales.

Over the first three months of the year, only three other Wii titles broke the list of top 10 best-selling games compiled by the NPD Group, a market research firm: Super Mario Galaxy, Guitar Hero III and Wii Play, a sports game that comes with the purchase of a much-needed additional game controller. The Wii may not be behind the success of all those titles, though; Guitar Hero, for example, sold 2.2 million copies for the Wii, but 2.8 million copies for the Xbox 360 and almost 5 million for two versions of the PlayStation.

The average Wii owner buys only 3.7 games a year, compared with 4.7 for Xbox 360 owners and 4.6 for PlayStation 3 owners, said a Wedbush Morgan analyst, Michael Pachter. "It reflects the broadening of the demographic," he said. "Nintendo's market doesn't feel the same sense of urgency to buy every game that's coming out."

"You don't see a lot of titles that reach 30 to 40 percent of the installed base," said a Lazard Capital analyst, Colin Sebastian. "My in-laws in Texas have a Wii sitting on their living-room floor next to the TV, which to me is kind of amazing. They have Wii Sports, a Brain Age game, Wii Play. That's about it."

MikeE21286

does people in here read?? or have some logic??

of course the wii has a lower attach rate and not all the games reach the 40% of the user-base because maybe just maybe, has almost the triple of user-base than the ps3??

No they have not both sold more than what the developer was expecting so how is that a disappointment? Also Guitar Hero 3 has sold way more on Wii than PS3 and I believe it has sold more on Wii than any console worldwide. US is not the only place in the world here! The whole article is basically BS!

The title to this thread is misleading. It should say that the Wii has the worst attach rate not the worst software sales. Everyone knows PS3 is dead last in software sales as of right now. NPD numbers is proof.

This isn't suprising to me. It seems a good chunk of Wiis fanbase are as casual as they come that bought it based off its few gimmicks, and only buy shallow games, the typical *********.

the numbers about Brawl that they quote are from VGChartz....but we're not even discussing those in this thread. The numbers from Michael Pacther do not come from VGChartz.

exactly. shouldnt that raise some concerns?

why, were are not discussing those numbers :?

We are discucssing the numbers presented by Pachter (he is not in any way affiliated with VGChartz).

maybe pachter should look at these facts:

Number of 360 games that have sold over million: 26

Number of PS3 games that have sold over million: 4

Number of Wii games that have sold over a million: 21

can we have a link to where you got these "facts" from? because i'm pretty sure ps3 has more than 4. million sellers...

while the ps3 does have more than 4, the Wii numbers are correct, actually probably a little outdated as well.

the point i was tryin to make is still there.

mind you none were hardly advertised. i love how people love comparing none advertised wii games to advertised xbox360 games. most of all wii games from nintendo that do sell are advertised. no third party on the wii can complain about selling, since there not advertising there games. anyway with that being said theres always comments about third parties on the wii selling and how there proud of there sales.

how come we can use wikipedia a information site that can be altered by any user, but not use vgchartz a company that uses estimations on hardware and software sails, that some times are a little of the charts (mostly in software).. it doesn't make any sense...

Wikipedia numbers are correct, all of the games they listed HAVE sold that much.

the problem with VGchartz is that some people use them for numbers BEFORE the officials numbers come out. which would be ownage since they just estimate until the numbers are out

How quickly people forget. Okami and Psychonauts had dismal sales, and that was with an install base of 120 mil (in the case of Psychonauts much more since it came out one the X-Box as well). I dont remember articles at that time stating that the PS2 or the X-Box suffered from bad software sales?

im 100% sure that developers dont give rat azz about attach rates, but the man here Mike wants to make PS3 look good over here by bringing the useless attach rates. Xbox 360 right now is looking like the console to develop for, sorry. Wii is obviously the other, PS3 third.

It's funny that the article mentions Zack and Wiki - considering Capcom said that they were very happy with its sales. It's a niche title - they didn't expect it to sell a million copies. Furthermore, who said that only sheep talked sales? :| I hear more of this crap from Wii-haters than anything else.
