Wii isn't really a main console?

then here's a challenge, pick up a game from a genre you've never played, see how long you can play it b4 you want to throw the controller at the TV (if you're playing on a wii then it's covered by warrenty). :)

I did that recently with Disgaea on the PSP. I had never tried a Strategy RPG. It took some time, but I didn't throw my PSP across the room. And now I'm playing Valkyria Chronicles. I did the same with Guitar Hero.

disgaea is a strategy RPG, so if you'd played strategy games and RPGs in the past, it's not really very different.

It can be. It has more good games available on the system than people buy on average for even the 360 (which has the highest software attach rate atm).

That, mixed with great WiiWare titles, and the Virtual Console you have more than enough games to play, and at a lot cheaper price.

You really won't get your fix with online gaming though. It feels really sub-par compared to the other systems. I know lots of people that don't play games for online though.

The only thing different about it is how you play it. Motion. And I believe people think that wii isn't a main console because its out of the ordinary and not traditionalized, like with a "normal" game controler.

Wii is my main console because it has VC and my favorite franchices.

But this gen you really need a Wii60 or PSWii combo.

PSWii is a better choice IMO.

MadWorld's just alright man and since when is RE an FPS, it's obvious to me that your only console is the Wii. By no means is it perfect and there are many better games that SSB. I have three words for ya:

Personally switch between PC and Wii myself, haven't seen the point of getting a PS3/360 while my PC is top notch and most decent games are multi-platform now days.

Does Wii have decent FPS games? Nope, not at the moment anyway. Does it have decent RPGs? ATM it is getting there. (also see future releases Dragon Quest X, Tales of Graces, FF:CC

The best platformers? Good simulators? How about any decent adventure games? Party games? Or the most unique games in general?

360/PS3 are fine systems, no doubt about that. Nintendo has been far from perfect of course, but they were right... Nintendo is scoring the most cash because they wanted new gamers and the other two systems... Well if you put them behind a cabinet and played around with most of the best games of this gen or this year, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Nintendo got out of that race, and it worked. Nintendo is missing many AAA games, but mostly only because they are a totally different system that can't play the AAA games that get ported from system to system (PC/360/PS3), and of course because Nintendo was stupid and didn't release any AAA titles themselves for a year.

Once Wii HD comes, it'll be interesting to see what happens, ports will be welcomed on Nintendo's console again from other systems (or once 360/PS3 motion controls come in... TBH 360 motion control atm won't keep up without a controller, it'll just be a gimmick if it has no buttons)... But what will developers do about controls? Hopefully a game like The Conduit will establish FPS consoles for the Wii so developers can follow suit on the Wii HD.

am sure that out of the many millions of people who got the Wii, there is a good percentage of them who got it as a main console...

Yeah you say the other consoles are all about censor baiting content but I bet you still get a stiffy for Wii exclusives like Madworld, House of the Dead or No More Heroes.

To the topic(im not gonna take any of those troll flamebaits), wii right now(we are in 2009 right now, i know theres some people stuck in 2007), is a main console with loads of 1st and third party offerings.Personally is my main console and im currently playing 8 new(2009) released games so far,specially Rune Factory Frontier, Tenchu Shadow Assasins,and Madworld in hard. And Punch out! is out in 2 days so...I think the original poster lacks some research about what the wii offers now.

Oh and yes, to the previous poster, you do miss if you only have one console.Im a fan of resistance 2 for Ps3.That however, applies true of just having one of the other 2 consoles.Missing mkart online experience is a big loss too.But im was strictly referring to the fact that you can have constant and new sources of fun with the wii, to stay hooked. I dont plan to miss FFXIII, but im sure as hell i dont plan to miss Dragon Quest X (for wii) either.

But the 360 and PS3 just have Sooooooooo many more unmissable titles, c'mon people we all know this. All the Wii really has on a top notch level is NHM, SMG, SSBB, MK; Wii and Zak and Wiki. Those are the only games you really NEED to play on the Wii, and i have played them. How is the Wii main console for anyone who actually wan't to play consistently this gen? I did just fine without a 360 for almost two years - Yes, the Wii misses out on a lot of multiplats - but after owning a 360 - I don't really care for most of them. Theres a few good experiences here and there that I would have hated to miss (Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia) - but other than those few, theres not much I really enjoy.

The Wii has too many titles on it that makes it stand out to me compared to the other two. I can't imagine not being able to experience MadWorld - NMH - SMG - Brawl - MP3:C with its fantastic controls - Deadly Creatures - a truly unique, creative idea that radically changed the way I personally think about games - de Blob which made me realize what the root of video games are about - fun.

Theres no denying the Wii is missing out on multiplats, but I'd argue that the PS3/360 is missing out on a lot of creature, unique, "Games that would not be found dead on PS3/360" games ;).

No, game consoles are not toys. They were originally treated as toys and still are by nintendo.

But consoles have been more than toys since playstation. They're media players just like DVD players, VCRs, etc. Games can be so much more than "simple fun." Theycan also be more than "childish fun." It's just the fact that nintendo primarily focuses on these two that wii fans say things like this.

Ill admit that the PS3 if anything blurs the line between toy and media center but as long as it plays games itll be classified as a toy, period.
