GC was underrated. If people are so against multi media, where were they last gen?Shomb22
Wiimote = hype factor = non-gaming casuals caught in the hype = more Wii sales
Plus $250 price tag helps.

Ya but the casual crowd is fairly small compared to the hardcore crowd. its just so much bigger of a crowd then any other console out there.

Uh, no. Since when do the hardcore crowd > than non-gaming casuals/gaming casuals?
Too much glue?

since when was it not? just because there are more non gamers on wii than the other consoles does not mean they outnumber hardcores.

Trying to downplay the Wii's reality?
Nintendo: "We're going after an untapped market (demographic) that has either given up or never experience videogames in thier lives." Hence the non-gaming casuals, whether little kids, teenagers who are still too cool for videogames, soccer moms, dad the plumber, uncle Joe the trucker, or grandma Moses who loves to bake cookies, these groups make up the non-gaming casual market.
Wii's market = hardcore gaming minority + casual gamers & non-gaming casuals = more sales.

Also, this just in. Your hatred for Nintendo can cloud your judgement.
Casuals didn't prefer the GC because it was only' a gaming system. Were as the PS3 is attracting all of the casuals because it deals with more variety for them to choose from.

Considering the PS3 sold 20,000 units this week in Japan, and the Wii sold 100,000, I'm not sure it's appealing to that big casual market.
Good news is, it's doing much worse against Nintendo in both other territories.
In fact, the lead is growing by leaps and bounds.

I said it once, I'll say it again. GC was my choice of console, and a damn good choice it was.
so it passed the xbox lifetime sales 2ljlrj
No, that's its next milestone, which it will reach by next month, since the 360 is only about 2m units ahead of the Gamecube.
In the next month to six weeks, Wii sales will surpass Xbox sales.Following that, Wii sales are on target to pass Sega Genesis sales and Nintendo 64 sales by August.Toward the end of the year, Wii sales will likely approach or surpass SNES lifetime sales.
And it has outsold the Gamecube 5 to 1.
In the meantime, it will take the PS3 and 360 another year respectively to pass the Gamecubes numbers.
Wii sales are absolutely unbelievable. If you would have told them to any person on this forum a year ago, they would have laughed in your face, and said that if that was true, the Wii would already be the winner of the console sales race(which it is, but no one will admit it until they absolutely have to).

$199 price tag didn't help the GameCube. :(
Considering the Wii has reached more than 20M worldwide in so little time, it's still selling like hotcakes and hasn't dropped the price yet, it's almost impossible to be beaten in this genaration and may be one of the best selling platform of all time.hugo_benAt the rate things are currently going, I can only imagine how crazy things probably will be when the Wii FINALLY does drop in price.

Thanks for agreeing with me. I suppose you really do have to spell out sarcasm when you type it.
one whould asume that haveing many options on a machine means you would get more people. yet Wii hasn't that option. But still as we know its on fire because people like my dad actually think about buying one and do. Wii benifits that GC didn't have Price, and being totaly different than the competitors.
[QUOTE="james28893"]Wasn't a hard task.HarlockJC
Yet the 360 has yet to do it....
Nor the PS3. It's kinda weird that.
[QUOTE="HarlockJC"][QUOTE="goblaa"]GC down. Next up, the xbox. Then, the world! Mwahahaha!!!Willy105
Getting past the PS2 is the key to winning this gen...
No? Why?
A number of websites were claiming that there would be no one key system that would outsell the PS2 this Gen. Also can you say the GEN of game systems is really much better than last gen if there is not has many systems sold.
It may be hard to understand what I am getting at. Each GEN outsells the last, if this GEN does not that means gaming has taken a step backwards.

Surpassing the PS2 will be difficult.
The war is more tighter this time around.

Not really the Wii is kind of an oddball the only game system to sell this fast was the PS2. So yes the 20 million mark may be easy to pass for the 360 and PS3 it just going to take them longer to do it. I am willing to say I think they will get past the 20 million point before the GC did.
well exceeding lifetime sales of the GC is no big deal, since GC was such a flop.... That's why they made the GC 1.5 with a new controller (Wii) to attract more casual gamers... Still its a long way to sell more that PS1 or PS2 considering Wii's lifespan wont exceed 2009... its already obsolete graphically

The gamecube was not a flop.

Your right it will be....In my eyes at least if no system is able to do then this gen is a flop. All gens have outsold the last no matter how good the PS2 did this gen has to outsell the last to be successful in getting more gamers.

The Wii is selling at a faster than the PS2 did.
PS. Willy this is another good reason to keep why
It may be hard to understand what I am getting at. Each GEN outsells the last, if this GEN does not that means gaming has taken a step backwards.HarlockJCThe way I see it is this:
Nothing has to out sell the PS2.
But, PS2 + Xbox + GC = 160 million, give or take, right?
So, if PS3 + 360 + Wii = 160+ million, then this gen moved forward, just had more viable options, yes?
GC was underrated. If people are so against multi media, where were they last gen?Shomb22
in fairness ninty have only themsleves to blame for the GCs failure. they built a great console...powerful, efficent, fast loading, it was the finest games console ever made imho and the model of what a console should be.
however ninty just didnt promote the machine at all and they did nothing to get the markets attention. they made a machine more powerful than the PS2, and cheaper, and they lost. compare ninty now with the wii and DS to ninty with the GC....there like two completly different companies.
anywho no matter what happens now, the wii is a success in nintys eyes. as they said before the wii launched (roughly), if the wii failed to outsell the GC then it would be a complete disaster as far as there concerned. so job done in that regard.

That would be fine as long has each system is moves forward to the following gen and none of them get left behind. I just want to see this gen move forward not backwards. Also add a extra 10 million for the dreamcast for last gen.
i think the 360 is able too pass the 120 million AS LONG THEY DONT REMOVE THE ROD :D
to be honest i dont think the wii break the 120 million
1 .the ps2 was a cheap dvd player = more non gamer + casuals
2. the graphic different between xbox,GC and ps2 was not so big as it is now with the wii and the other 2
3. if its easy too copy games on a console more people buy it
