[QUOTE="ljlrj"]so it passed the xbox lifetime sales 2Zenfoldor
No, that's its next milestone, which it will reach by next month, since the 360 is only about 2m units ahead of the Gamecube.
In the next month to six weeks, Wii sales will surpass Xbox sales.Following that, Wii sales are on target to pass Sega Genesis sales and Nintendo 64 sales by August.Toward the end of the year, Wii sales will likely approach or surpass SNES lifetime sales.
And it has outsold the Gamecube 5 to 1.
In the meantime, it will take the PS3 and 360 another year respectively to pass the Gamecubes numbers.
Wii sales are absolutely unbelievable. If you would have told them to any person on this forum a year ago, they would have laughed in your face, and said that if that was true, the Wii would already be the winner of the console sales race(which it is, but no one will admit it until they absolutely have to).
On one note, there is no way that the Wii will outsell the SNES by the end of the year. The SNES sold just under 50 million units before it bit the bucket - the Wii would have to sell almost 30 million units this year to accomplish that. Oh, and I love the Wii - and its numbers are definitely unbelievable, as you put it.[QUOTE="Shomb22"]GC was underrated. If people are so against multi media, where were they last gen?sonic_spark
I said it once, I'll say it again. GC was my choice of console, and a damn good choice it was.
fanboy aside. i actually enjoyed the gamecube hardware way more than the ps2 hardware. then again both xbox and gamecube hardware was better than the ps2 hardware.[QUOTE="Cyber-"][QUOTE="VERTIGO47"][QUOTE="Cyber-"][QUOTE="KingsofQueens"][QUOTE="Shomb22"]GC was underrated. Wiimote = hype factor = non-gaming casuals caught in the hype = more Wii sales
Plus $250 price tag helps.
Ya but the casual crowd is fairly small compared to the hardcore crowd. its just so much bigger of a crowd then any other console out there.
Uh, no. Since when do the hardcore crowd > than non-gaming casuals/gaming casuals?
Too much glue?
since when was it not? just because there are more non gamers on wii than the other consoles does not mean they outnumber hardcores.
Trying to downplay the Wii's reality?
Nintendo: "We're going after an untapped market (demographic) that has either given up or never experience videogames in thier lives." Hence the non-gaming casuals, whether little kids, teenagers who are still too cool for videogames, soccer moms, dad the plumber, uncle Joe the trucker, or grandma Moses who loves to bake cookies, these groups make up the non-gaming casual market.
Wii's market = hardcore gaming minority + casual gamers & non-gaming casuals = more sales.
And still the majority is hardcores those are added sales but its not the majority.
well that was not a hard thing 2 do beat the GC sells LOL :lol:NorgYet PS3 and Xbox 360 still haven't reached the GCN Sales yet so it is actually that hard GCN sold 21 Million in 4 years Wii is on its 2nd Year, 360 is close and it is on its 3rd Year, and PS3 has some ways to go and it is on its 2nd Year.
sad thing is GC is way better then Wii
mingo123
but the Wii can do everything the GC does and then some (100% backwards compatibility)

You delude yourself if you think that the Wii is mostly casual. The hardcore is definately responsible for the majority of the Wii sales. Just look at the sales of the D.S., it took a long time to take off, even though it was so targeted at casuals. It was mostly the hardcore crowd for the first few years, and the same can be said of the Wii, only the Wii is even more of an investment.

My proof is in all the hardcore games that are selling well. Wheres your proof? Every non gamer game has had a pull to both the non gamer and the hardcore, but your not gonna see a non gamer going out to get RE4 or MP3 both of which are solid million sellers.

What does it matter casuals and hardcores? Without those casuals buying PS2s and PS1s we wouldn't have franchises like Devil May Cry. Sales produce more money for developers to make more games, and take more risks.
To ignore games like Brawl, RE 4, Galaxy, Z&W, Manhunt 2, BWii, MOH:H2, Mario Kart, Okami, FF CC (2 in 2008), Tales of Symphonia 2, Paper Mario Series, Pikmin, No more heroes is ignorant
you could enjoy games on any system even if they were scarce. an experience like RE 4 and MP make a GCN purchase worth it alone.
Why not enjoy everything you won't kill gaming by simply playing all sorts of games you know?
plus i think Nintendo has nailed a good hardcore crowd that ppl ignore. the adventure fans.
Games like Zack & Wiki, Hotel Dusk, Phoenix Wright, Trace Memory are great games. I know adventure games haven't been that huge since the days of Grim Fandago but jeez!

Phhh if anything the GC was vastly overrated by its zealotous sheep fanbase. Really it deserved to do far worse than just a close third to Xbox. And people aren't against their machines doing more they're just stupid and falling for the gimmick.
