Stumbled across this article.

The Wii U experience is so terrible that it took over an hour to update the software on the console recently, and apparently that wasnt that bad. People have told me their updates took over 4 hours when performed closer to Christmas. Do you know what that 7-year-old is doing during those 4 hours you're making him wait? Playing Temple Run or Angry Birds on his iPad mini. Way to go Nintendo.excerpt

What are your thoughts? I personally facepalmed.

On some level I think this has truth to it but overall it just seems to be hyperbole.

Hmm, trying to download anything anywhere near Christmas? Fvck, no way bro! I couldn't even redeem my vita version of PSASBR on Christmas Day. The Internet connection in most places is obviously going to be throttled by everybody and their dog getting online at once. Not that this excuses updates this long, especially on day 1. But common sense here, people. And Nintendo could hemorrhage Sony levels of money for many, many years before they are anywhere near being out of this game. (Inb4 Heil)

I doubt that. Not saying you're wrong but Nintendo of all the game companies? They only have one market.

The console does have some launch issues, but when you're going to say that Nintendo will be forced to go iOS and Android, then you're just spewing BS.

Funny, my cousin was able to download the update in 30 min and we were playing the Wii U the rest of the day. This was on Christmas Day. The 3DS eShop was down though later that night. Doubt it will be Nintendo's last console. I want to see the Christmas sales figures.

Last console?

They outsold Microsoft and Sony in the same months of their releases back in 2005 and 2006. So Nintendo beats both in sales with the Wii, and outselling both with the Wii U in the same release months, and it is their last console. Hmmm

http://caps.fool.com/Blogs/wii-u-sales-data-some-good/783765

So tell me why they would stop selling consoles?

With that said....I love my Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U (but not my Wii.That thing stunk. How in the heck did Nintendo conn so many people into buying that thing?)

Nintendo only posted their first loss in some ridiculous number of years earlier in 2012. They rarely sell anything at a loss, hell I think Mario Kart Wii is still $50. To think Nintendo is in danger of going anywhere, anytime soon is laughable.

Eh I kinda hope it is if Nintendo keeps going the casual and underpowered route on consoles and milks Mario to death. Not that I'm saying the article has any truth to it or that Nintendo will die out lol.

Well that article was awful.

First of all, what the hell does he mean when the Wii-U intface is so Japanese? I never thought or felt that way at all with the system. :?

Secondly, I think it is silly to think Nintendo would put their games on I-phone or androids or whatever. They do have handehlds as well, and those have always done well (outside Virtual Boy), and 3DS is only continuing the trend. That plus I highly highlt doubt the Wii-U will be Nintendo's last console. The Wii did so incredibly well sales-wise so, and a company like Sega had far more issues going for it than Nintendo ever did.

It doesn't help that the hyperbole was through the roof in that article either.

The interface is too Japanese? The menu on the controller is a bunch of small square boxes that launch applications. Yeah way different.

And people complaining about this update. It needs to stop, is it ideal? No. But whatever. You know, you don't have to just like, sit there when your system is updating. You are allowed to do other things.

My PS3 had to install/update for rilly long periods as well. Never complained about it cause I just do something else. Tho it does make consoles less consoly with PC load/install times.

Nintendo really dropped the ball on that dumb Update.

Sad thing is that Update is quite vital for the system too.

Get over it. You only need some patience. Is that really so hard? Even if it was Christmas and you were 7, waiting a few hours ain't gonna kill you. Infact it might teach you a thing or too about patience.

So this is like what, the 6th time Nintendo has launched their last console? Just like people did the N64, GC, DS, 3DS and wii, I'm sure that if we predict Nintendo's demise enough times one day we'll be right... But I don't think Wii U is that time depending on how E3 turns out. This is the third best selling launch in console history behind the PS2 and the Wii but because it falls short of Wii numbers it's considered a sign of doom? Remember, Wii cost a hundred dollars less and had insane hype and yet Wii U is still only trailing by a couple hundred thousand units? What happened to the people who claimed the only reason Wii sold was because of its price?

I don't get why people are bashing Nintendo for this update. The Ps3 launch update took longer than an hour, early games took literally over 30 minutes to install. MGS4 had a 10 minute update between chapters for crying out loud.

Yet, a 1 hour update is creating all the fuss? I don't buy it. Wii-U's launch was pretty much a let down mostly because of the games. The hardware itself and all its features are fantastic. Not up to par yet, but certainly in time. People should be upset over that, but not over some update.

this guy is critiquing the whole of the wii u experience based on one long software update? lol what a stupid cvnt. not only does his reasoning make little sense but his "journalism" reads more like a fanboy's rant than an actual review

i love this crap: "When you see a beautiful iPhone apps interface, theres a good chance you couldnt tell if it was designed by a company in San Francisco or Paris or Hong Kong. But Nintendos interface is blatantly Japanese, and it lacks any and all sophistication." apple product slobber-knocker and the guy seems almost offended that the UI has a japanese feel to it? what the fvck does that even mean?

All consoles have huge updates when you first buy them. I don't understand why this is an issue. When I first bought my PS3 I set it to update and night and just went to bed.

Man, why do you insist on making a fool of yourself in every topic you post in? FYI, if you want to talk tech specs, the N64 was more powerful than the PS1, and the GameCube was more powerful than the PS2. Would you argue that Sony was a generation behind then? No? Then shut up.

True sony went from decent to high tech. But that still makes Nintendo look worse because they went from decent to low tech.

except there is no "impressive tech at an affordable price". look how much wanting to be next gen has damaged sony and, to a lesser extent, microsoft. sony had an absurdly priced machine, and microsoft cut costs on critical areas that led to the insane failure rates of early 360 models, and it was still expensive as hell. and in the end, they were still essentially low-grade PCs.

Incorrect.

The Sega Dreamcast costed, like 200 bucks and it blew away everyone when it came out (even PC gamers).

The NGC was pretty impressive when it came out too and also quite cheap.

And the N64 blew away everyone back in 1996 with it's smooth 3D graphics. (except for some stubborn Sega fanboys)

It's that type of visual jump some of us hoped the U would deliver but that doesn't seem so...

Okay, just read the article, and I agree with the guy who said it wouldn't be out of place as typical System Wars drivel. In fact, I could almost copy-paste this onto an article for System Wars Magazine, and people would have a hard time figuring out if it was real or troll-bait.

Same here, it only took me 30 minutes to install the system update.
