Vita. Sony abandoned it after a year.
Wii U at least got support from Nintendo and has many great games to play.
Vita, it seemed like a year after it launched,Sony had pretty much given up on it. At least Nintendo kept producing 1st party games for the machine. That being said, I think the Vita is a great handheld and it is a shame that Sony dropped the ball with it.
I have and play both so I guess neither failed.
I play all my psp games on vita
I play all my old nintendo games on my wiiU
Backwards compatibility makes both of them as good or just flat out better than the previous generation ones.
Nintendo supported the Wii U enough for it to be worth owning. The Vita is the bigger failure. There really is no excuse for hardware as powerful and appropriately priced as the Vita failing as hard as it did.
Pretty good topic. Both systems are actually decent pieces of technology. I don't think anyone will argue that the Vita is a great handheld in itself and while many hate the WiiU because it isn't an XBONE or PS4, it's actually a great system to play games on if those games are your thing. Both have underwhelming libraries in the court of public opinion, but both have some pretty great gems. The WiiU by far has more of those gems, and that's not even a question. Both had ridiculously awful sales numbers. For the most part both are considered flops, even by their fans. Both pretty much require you to have a SD card, and both don't come with one. Percentagewise, both production costs respective to their current price point are about the same.
As a current owner of both systems, I'd say the Vita is more of a flop because the library is just so so weak. I've really struggled to find games to play on it. I love it. I really do. Had a library that even remotely challenged the 3DS/DS' I may have even switched exclusively to it. It's honestly the best handheld I've ever experienced in terms of the unit itself. I'm a big fan of the WiiU, but I'm clearly more objective than most. I didn't buy it to play COD online with my buddies or to experience a great racing sim, or to talk on message boards about how amazing the framerate on game X is. I have another system and a PC for that. I bought it to play kick-a platformers like the ones I did as a kid, to play Mario party with my daughter before she left for college, playing old school games I grew up on in my living room instead of an emulator on my laptop, and the occasional drunken nights of Smash Bros when I have a bunch of knuckleheads over at my house. Getting a surprise like Mario Maker, Mirage Sessions, or Fatal Frame was just simply icing.
While both systems are flops, I'm happy with my purchases of both. In the not too distant future I'll be trading one in for its successor, and wishing someone would make a great game for the other so I don't have to put in on eBay.
I don't know as I didn't expect much from either. I guess the WiiU since the Wii was successful.
Ditto.
I point to expectations. Expectations for the Wii U were much higher than they were for the Vita. Wii U was more of a failure for that reason.
Vita by far. It's not even up for debate. Not sure why this is even question.
Another Flop from Sony.
This. Sony abandoned first party support on the thing for goodness sake. That didn't happen on the Wii U.
Depends on how you look at it. Vita killed Sony's handheld ambitions. Wii U was such a huge drop-off of the Wii. Each company dropped support of both their products a while ago.
Having both, Wii U. Both are definitely hurting, and Wii U might just have a last hurrah with Zelda, but ultimately it is a really bad successor. Vita is definitely lacking too, but at least I get some decent time still on it now and then.

You could also spin it as such; the Wii U killed Nintendo's ambition for the traditional home console segment (which is arguably more significant).
I can't say which was worse but your reasoning is flawed Imo. At least Nintendo did support the WiiU with some AAA games. Sony really doesn't with the vita. Much of the stuff on vita was playable elsewhere. According to this board that's a negative.
They both failed. This is like asking which convicted murderer is worse. They're both murderers. LOL ?
I will have to say the Wii U. The Vita was never intended to be the flagship system of Sony. And while the handheld market has forever shrunk. The console market is still very strong. And the Wii U's faliure to catch on; threatens Nintendo's future in the console market.
Not just that. But even with Sony dropping 1st party support, and having a smaller selection of genres. The Vita is still being manufactured and having games made for it. The same cannot be said for the Wii U. Which faces strong rumors of being discontinued.
As an owner of both, I have to say Vita. Sony just gave up on this thing. It makes me sad, because this thing had so much potential. The only thing I would change about the design is add a second set of triggers instead of relying on touchscreen. Also make the sticks have an R3 and L3. Then it would at least have been great for remote play. So sad they just tried to make this a system to play watered down versions of their greatest hits. They should have just made more original games. So sad :(

Why would I want to spin it? They're both miserable failures.

Agreed.
Wii U had some points, a steller and unique library, off-tv capabilities which ended up foreshadowing the NX.
Vita is a nice machine, but it's more like the nVidia Shield than a console in its own right.
Vita: Sony stopped supporting the system and even led masterpieces like Tearaway flop on it. WiiU atleast has GOTG type games on the system
