From what I gather:
- CPU based on IBM Power architecture, similar to 360's but downclocked and cost-reduced
- GPU based on AMD R700 series (2008 tech), better than what 360 and PS3 have
- 1.5 gigs or RAM, 512 megs reserved for the OS (sounds like a resource-heavy OS) but still more than 360 and PS3
- proprietary optical disc, similar to blu-ray (won't run blu-ray movies)
- 8 gigs flash memory (no hard drive)
- backwards compatible with Wii (no NGC BC)
- supports resolutions: 720p res with 4x MSAA, 1080p with no AA
- Wii U GamePad: features 6.2 inch touch screen (854x480 res), accelerometer, gyroscope, camera, microphone, ect. (Pro Controller sold separatelly)
- 300-350$ price
- late 2012 launch
So yes, it's supposed to be technically better than the 360 and PS3.
The other question is how developers will utilize it.
