Wii U Tops Target's Black Friday Online Sales

Target had its biggest online shopping day ever on Thanksgiving.

"Demand outpaced 2014’s record Thanksgiving performance, making it Target’s biggest day for online sales yet," the retailer said in a release.

The record-breaking sales online were driven by three items: the Apple iPad, Apple Watch, and Wii U gaming console, the company said.

Just to be clear, the PS4 and Xbox One Black Friday bundles were apparently in store only.

Still pretty good on Wii U for selling as well as it apparently did, but if you were wondering whether or not it outperformed the other consoles, there's your answer

Thats good to hear, cause the Wii U Bundle wasnt doing good at our local retailer. I didnt check Target though, but i did buy a bunch of games from them for $15. I also bought Mario Party 10 for $20.

That's a good deal, but it still isn't going to move many units. Both those games are niche titles for Wii U. Yes, I know Smash Bros sells well, but it's still a fighting game, and most young players (whom Wii U is aimed at) still don't play it, nor Splatoon. Mario Maker and MarionKart would be better.

Might get it cheaper then that on Cyber Monday.

I was under the impression that specific bundle (and the Xbox One Fallout/Lego bundles) were the only ones that were in store, and that it was still possible to buy the systems themselves online?

I dont think youll get it cheaper then $250. Best might be to buy used from Nintendo for $199 if want it cheaper.

You could still buy the systems online but those weren't part of the Black Friday deal.

Target announced Wii U was number one selling online item, then they stated they sold more Ipads (which was number 2) then seconds in the day. So would this mean they sold more then 87K Bundles online?

is that not the same pattern as the last few years? (right after the X1 in the US, and over it in EU) While not as high I seem to remember that the Wii U's sold pretty good during Black Friday, makes sense in a way, the Wii U is not a good primary console, but for the price, it is an absolutely amazing secondary console.

Sales seem pretty darn good over here too, with sites having sold out, what is kind of eerie however is that the PS4 and X1 deals (also incredibly good, by our standards) were accompanied by pretty decent discounts on games as well, not a single Wii U game has been on any kind of sale here.

@Maddie_Larkin: Weve been getting a bunch on sale, Splatoon was going around for $25-35. Mario Party 10 was $20-30, and plenty more on sale here.

I think 3DS has/had the best deals though, many $15 classics and $25 dollar classics.

I mean that Wii U is a piece of junk and its price shouldnt be more than 150$ MAX .. So those 2 games are not free at all if you ask me. Proof that a low price and quality games in a bundle would sell more Wii U systems. Nintendo really shot themselves in the foot by sitting on $300 consoles with 1 game bundled imo.

Once you realize the other consoles weren't available online it kind of robs this of any real significance. Not that anyone should be looking for a WiiU resurgence at this point anyhow. Nintendo is just spinning wheels until the can get their next system launched.

Compare it to PS4 and make your own clarification when PS4 has 299$ and Wii U 250$ , both considered giving games for free .. I mean really ?

Walmart was doing a same bundle for same price I think. I would not trust either company with my credit card information though, especially Target. Good to see people interested in Wii U. Walmart was sold out of $25 Splatoon, hopefully Amazon has a Cyber Monday deal close enough, I want to play Splatoon but not for anything close to full price.

I bought a refurbished Wii-U a week ago for $200. I bought a PS4 on Black Friday.

Good, their Holiday commercial is actually pretty good! That's all they needed! Wii U needs to do is outpace GC sales, but I doubt it will go above 27 million sales after 5 years.

The bundle is sold out everywhere locally. I saw Mario Kart 8 bundles at a few places though. Theyre all selling like hotcakes, ive seen people buying every system like crazy. That dang 2DS is becoming a ghost. All them 3DS systems selling great.

Xbox One $299 and PS4 $2299 seem to be selling good also, it was hard to tell since so many still on the floors etc, but seemed to be selling.

That's odd too....wtf? I could of swore ive seen that bundle advertised online for that price, like Newegg or something.
