That so called "dying system" been supposedly dying for a long time now. We still waiting and its still selling. We have awesome fans who still love to play bout every single game on the system. All our games are still full, i play old games and people still posting like crazy on its Miiverse.

It is selling at a slower pace than Dreamcast. Nintendo has to keep it on shelves until NX is ready lol.

Supposedly dying for a long time now ? Who the hell said that when in 2014 all fanboys were rampage that Wii U was the best console ever made ? Lets not talk out of our butts here ... 2015 though is the start of downfall. For the first 2 quarters , Gamespots top 10 Wii U games had only 4-5 games on that list when 2 of them were bad enough ... Lets not speak what happens when someone visits Metacritic ... Thats really upsetting.

So , anyways , back to my point. 250$ for this junk with 2 games ... those 2 games are not free , are almost full paid titles.

$299.99 PS4's and XB1's were in store only, so of course Wii U would be the best selling console on Targets online store. So, don't get too excited .Nintendo fanboys.

This confirms my suspicion.. If Nintendo drops the price of the system, it will sell more.. If only they done that sooner though, as this would have meant they will be reaching 20 million mark, meaning more software to come.

I still disagree. The Wii U hardware is better than the PS3 and Xbox 360 hardware, and those still go for $200, this is just $50 more and you get two of the best games on the system free too. I don't know why you would complain about that.

Funny. The "crappiest hardware" system ironically has a lot of the best games this gen, and some of the best games of several of Nintendo's series.

Really now comparing PS3 with Wii U to justify your claims that price is good ? One , if not the one and only , most costly console ever made production speaking with a ridiculous price start let alone the power gap of those 2 its not big to begin with ? Ok !! 250$ for that crap of a system that next year will be no more when PS4 has 300$ and has a bright future ... Sorry , i still insist those 2 games are not free. Huh. I thought that Nintendo should have made a bundle without a gamepad and used a Pro controller instead. They could have sold it for $149-$199 and had the option of selling the gamepad through the Nintendo site. This setup would be like the 2DS version of Wii U. You get the majority of the experiences of the full version, but without all the bells and whistles of the real thing. I think they would have destroyed this holiday season if they did.

I think at this point, Nintendo is in a state of minimum effort and investment for the maximum possible returns when it comes to the Wii U. They threw their gauntlet, they tried making it work, they failed. The Wii U has no future, they know that- they will give it the minimum possible and acceptable support, all the while spending as little money on it as possible, and then replace it with something that is hopefully more profitable for them.

I don't think it could get less minimum effort than to remove the gamepad and release a new generic box. Add in a few token commercials advertising the price drop and a paper insert that shows how to order a gamepad for full experience and they would be all set. This would be like the Wii Mini towards the end. Basement price to get units out the door. I think that their biggest hurdle with this setup would be to patch games that depend on the gamepad like Splatoon and Captain Toad. Even then I don't think it would be a big hurdle.

I just think that if they did this, there would be a surge in the things that matter to Nintendo. Games, peripherals, and Amiibos. That is where their real money would be. Besides they already released that Amiibo reader. They just gotta include Wii U support and they'd be all set.

@bunchanumbers: Well, the OS would definitely have to be rewritten (there are still parts of it that mandate the Gamepad, for good or for bad, plus they would either need to disable WaraWara Plaza, or completely rewrite it so it is not the default interface, and even when it is active, it can be navigated without the Gamepad or Wii Remote), which is where the effort comes in, I imagine.

That would be silly though, most games require the Gamepad to play, the backlash would be unrepairable. Best thing is to look the the future, the Wii U is what it is mate.

Thats irrelevant .. Why ? Because its still a crappy hardware , few months before its official death supposedly costs 250$ when it costs waaaaaaaaay less than that therefore those 2 games are far from FREE. Everything else its irrelevant.

How is it dying if the sales continue to improve? Splatoon has sold over 3 million mate. Super Mario Maker will be right behind it. Yoshi Woolly World selling like hotcakes also. I actually went looking for the bundle at my local Target yesterday after the craziness died down and the reps told me it was sold out in about an hour after opening. Good for Nintendo they needed this.

@mesome713: I doubt the NX is going to be backward compatible if the hardware reports are true (x86 architecture to PowerPC).

Besides, for $250 including two essential games for core gamers, it's as good of a deal as it gets.

Its not over priced cause for $250 you get 100-1000-2000+ hours of enjoyment. Ttats cheap as crap. In another discussion you touted how well the Wii U is doing when compared to the GCN. When asked point blank why don't you give the numbers for Wii sales at the same time frame on the market as the Wii U, you wouldn't do it. Last week the article I read stated the Wii sold 70 million consoles in the same time frame the Wii U is barely pushing over 10 million. The console is doing poorly and of course there are times where its numbers fluctuate from month to month but don't be naive. The killer console Nintendo pushed it upon us as being has not materialized which is somewhat of a shame since the shot callers have made it what it isn't but should have been.

Nintendo better facking do something though, they are running out of bundles and people are getting mad they cant buy one. This is unaccetable, Nintendo doomed like always, cant even keep bundles on the shelves online nor offline. I was in the store today and there was bout 100 PS4 Uncharted bundles sitting on the floor, wtf Nintendo, get with the times.

The fact a $50 price drop is all it takes to move systems, is a testament to how lousy the board room at Nintendo has become. A $50 price cut, that they make up after two games sell, or start work on a new system and release rumors of an early wii u demise that will cost the company billions in development and lost sales from a disgruntled fanbase and non fanbase that now sees Nintendo as the second coming of sega.
