I think that if people think that the Wii is awesome now only because it's pulling a SE and porting a bunch of good old games to it, I will call those people c-c-c-crazy!
You act like it's a bad thing. It's really awesome that I can play some of the old games that I missed from a ton of consoles on one machine... legally.I think that if people think that the Wii is awesome now only because it's pulling a SE and porting a bunch of good old games to it, I will call those people c-c-c-crazy!

Oh it is great, but I wouldn't claim that the Wii is awesome again just because of that.
Why would I want to pay for something I can get for free?crazy-player
Because maybe you'd rather not steal something and instead pay the 5-10 bucks?

It's not stealing, and I don't really care if you think it is.[QUOTE="svetzenlether"][QUOTE="crazy-player"]Why would I want to pay for something I can get for free?crazy-player

It's not stealing, and I don't really care if you think it is. Unless you own the games downloading ROM's is considered illegal because it is stealing (making the ROM ultimately unfree). And your "I don't care" quip sounds like you know that.[QUOTE="millwrought"]You act like it's a bad thing. i'm glad you put that because i was gonna say...
[QUOTE="jonnyt61"]Simple reason why the VC isn't as great as it could be. It's very over-priced. AlexSaysNot really. Most of those games are either the same price, or much more expensive in their original form. Very true.

Not really. If you're looking for original carts, probably.
The fact that -most- of the games worth buying can be picked up in collections, compilations and the like, for far cheaper than what you pay on VC is proof enough to me it's over-priced.
The fact that they're all old gen, and practically -free- to reproduce makes it a little annoying to me, to have to pay the equivalent of £15 for one N64 game. I mean, PS1 games which are the same gen as N64 games, go for a maximum of £3.50 on PSN.
Also, point systems suck.

Really? Maybe I haven't looked quite so well, but as far as the EU VC goes, it's not the case. There's a lot of games on there you can't get, probably, but these are also the same games that weren't worth buying then, let alone now.
But most of the good ones? They' seem to have been re-released in some form or another, and, usually, are relatively easy to get a hold of.
Oh, and this isn't a Wii bash. I own one, even if I am disappointed with it.
i dont think so but the Conduit might i know it is revolutionaryEpiphoneMan2008Revolutionary? How can you say that when you haven't even played the game? It looks like a boring, generic first person shooter if you ask me.

I don't said you're bashing it, no worries :P But let's take a look at the important ones: Mario 1, 2, 3, World, Zelda ALttP, Yoshi's Island. Those, indeed, have GBA remakes. But it is pretty difficult to get one of those for less $10. Now come N64 games. That's more difficult because they are rare. For example Paper Mario, Zelda OoT or MM. I don't think you'll get them for such a low price. Next come the impossible ones: Super Metroid or Mario RPG, for example. Never remade, never re-released. And getting an original cartridge can cost up $400.[QUOTE="jonnyt61"][QUOTE="IronBass"] The other way around. Most of those games are impossible to get if not in their original carts form.IronBass

I think this is unfair though, as since I'm in the UK, we've always been lynched on the VC prices.
Well, as it stands, it's roughly £12 for a N64 title, which is about $18, I think. For the GBA games, I can generally pick the original carts Used for around £2~5 depending on the game.
But the worst part, is the Zelda games. They're quite expensive to buy separately on the VC, whereas for roughly £15~20 I can buy a brand new "Zelda Collection" for the GC which has...
Legend of Zelda
Zelda - The Adventure of Link
Ocarina of Time
Majoras Mask
I already own that, but I actually wanted to buy the games on VC, so I could avoid using the disc again. Sadly, then ended up being way too costly for me.
I did get Link to the Past, but I did that with "Star Points" so it was "free" even it did use pretty much 4 years worth of star points to afford [Damn you, crappy point exchange rate] I even own the original cart to that too though, so it was more of a convenience buy.
It's mostly down to the point system anyway. If they instead used a Wallet system, it'd probably end up being cheaper overall. I do like the VC's catalogue, I just see it as -quite- overpriced, not vastly, as I first put it hehe :P

Yeah especially when you realize that these some of these games are over 20 years old. If the pricing system went from NES games at 1 dollar to N64 being the most expensive at 5 dollars I would definitely purchase more games. But paying 5 bucks for Donkey Kong or Mario Brothers, seriously? It's a total rip off.

So if we are basically playing "roms" why are they the same price as the rare carts? Fail more please.

Eh... some of the carts can cost up $400 nowdays.True, but it probably costs next to nothing to port those games to the VC. But hey, Nintendo is doing the smart thing anyway since people are buying the games. If their prices were a bit lower it could stop some people from downloading illegally though.

Considering that some of those games are arguable some of the best games ever created, the price is simply excellent, imho.

You obviously have no grasp of the difference between cost and worth. The game may cost at least nothing, but if one pays 5 bucks for Super Mario Bros, it's worth 5 bucks. To them at least. Also, off topic, but the TP is definitly the most shameful Nintendo fan I've ever seen. Such a one track mind.[QUOTE="RawDeal_basic"][QUOTE="AlexSays"]

Also, off topic, but the TP is definitly the most shameful Nintendo fan I've ever seen. Such a one track mind. Well to me, Super Mario Bros is worth much more than 5 bucks since it's probably the greatest game ever made, but imo it's unethical to charge that much considering the manufacturing cost. But like I said, Nintendo is smart to charge those prices since people will pay. Please Log In to post.
