I think it seem obvious that the Wii will sell the most consoles between it, the 360, and PS3. I predicted that it would sell the most when I knew the definite prices of the 3 consoles.

Most people who buy gaming systems are fairly ignorant when it comes to games. They are going to see a 250 price tag, and from that they might decide soon after that a funky new controller is cool and that they are going to buy a Wii so they can play the yearly Madden game EA has to offer.

I've been thinking the Wii would sell well from the beginning, but I've also thought the Wiimote was bad from the beginning.

Being "innovative" is nice, but the Wiimote sucks the same way the DS does. I've been disappointed with my DS (un-asked-for present) for a few years now for the simple reason that the touchscreen is almost never used usefully and having two screens is almost never an advantage (and because Pokemon Diamond isn't as fun as Pokemon used to be).

The best Wii game so far is arguably Zelda. It doesn't use the Wiimote to an advantage at all. It's not "innovative" to use the Wiimote when you are playing a game that clearly controls better with a conventional controller. I think there's no question about this.

A game like Zelda will control better with gamepad than Wiimote. A platformer will control better with a controller. A technical racing game will never be as fluid using the Wiimote as a controller or wheel. Shooting games on the Wii so far suck, and I think that's the way it's going to continue to be (other than Metroid which might be another OK lock-on shooter).

I think it's a big punch in the face to the Wii and its Wiimote that many peoples' most loved Nintendo exclusive, Super Smash Bros, won't be using the Wiimote (I am so glad of this).

There's also the fact that the Wii's graphics are wayyy behind, and the system is pretty expensive in hardware/price ratio.

Zelda controls better on the Wii. Faster spin attack and MUCH better aiming with the bow, boomerang, etc. Super Mario Galaxy will prove how much better platformers are on the Wii (since the main control for a platformer is the analog stick anyway). We'll see about racing games.

zelda doesn't use the wii-mote to its fullest, because Zelda TP was never intended to be for wii at first. it was mirrored in short time.... Metroid, won't be a lock on shooter, unless you want it to be.. thats why the wii-mote was made. The graphics are " wayyy behind" because the wii was supposed to be smaller, and take up less power, to be the sleepless console (wifi) and you get what you pay for.. so.. there

I dont think Wii will win. I think it will be close, but wont win. I think by the end of this war the big three will be so close (relativly) in sales that it wont matter who won anyways.

Curious to see how well the Wii continues to perform once the silly gimmick wears off. I still say it's Gamecube 2.

The graphics are way behind because the Wii is very weak compared to PC's and this generation of consoles. There is no way to get around the fact that the Wii will be held back eventually by technical limitations. And using the Wiimote for a shooter, at least as far as the current shooters for the Wii have demonstrated, sucks. And even if it becomes better with time, it will not beat KB/M for precision and maneuverability. As for the "sleepless console (wifi)" I don't know the purpose of it, but it definitely sounds like a fairly pointless feature; something tacked on to your argument. And paying more while having less power for size is stupid. Like you would care if your Wii was a few square inches bigger.
Zelda controls better on the Wii. Faster spin attack and MUCH better aiming with the bow, boomerang, etc. Super Mario Galaxy will prove how much better platformers are on the Wii (since the main control for a platformer is the analog stick anyway). We'll see about racing games.magus-21
Racing games, shooting games, third person games with camera angle control... any game. I still don't agree with Zelda having better controls with the Wiimote. It is more clunky feeling than the GC version.

my brother has owned a Wii since Xmas and hasn't played it for a week or so because Zelda has no replay value (to me or him, anyways) and WarioWare lasted him a couple of days before I proved him right that he wouldn't like it (because it sucks). I've played Zelda up to about where you get the wolf. And the controls feel amazingly clunky to me.

Just wait for another game that interests him and he's good to go. As for Warioware, I suggest beer, girls, and not too much clothing. Fun times!!

There are going to be a huge number of games for every system and most of them are going to suck. As of now, Zelda is the only Wii game worth purchasing. The games that really take more advantage of the Wiimote are way too simple so far.

That's actually pretty bad. I haven't not played my 360 for over a day since GeOW came out (and GeOW isn't even that good a game... a lot better than Zelda though). I'd rather not keep playing a mediocre adventure game that makes you press a button to change camera angle and doesn't give you any decisions to make as far as where you want to go for the most part.

Why would sales suddenly mean nothing? If that were true, why are 3rd party devs scrambling to release games for the Wii? If anything, there should be less games announced, not more. So how do you explain that?

my brother has owned a Wii since Xmas and hasn't played it for a week or so because Zelda has no replay value (to me or him, anyways) and WarioWare lasted him a couple of days before I proved him right that he wouldn't like it (because it sucks). I've played Zelda up to about where you get the wolf. And the controls feel amazingly clunky to me.

Ah but have you played the Gamecube version? On and Zelda and WarioWare aren't the only games on Wii you know...

There are going to be a huge number of games for every system and most of them are going to suck. As of now, Zelda is the only Wii game worth purchasing. The games that really take more advantage of the Wiimote are way too simple so far.

What about Godfather? I've been hearing good things about it from reviews and other players.

Your standards are incredibly low. We aren't the richest people and we can't afford to pay 50 bucks for a game that isn't going to be something special. I tried very hard to convince my brother not to get WarioWare.

Where were you last gen? If you can't understand why sales are important, then no need to step in when the adults are having a conversation. :D

sales mean nothing this gen. wii has half the sales of 360 and wii has crap games while 360 has amazing games.

Why would sales suddenly mean nothing? If that were true, why are 3rd party devs scrambling to release games for the Wii? If anything, there should be less games announced, not more. So how do you explain that?

cuz it's about the games.

For the most part, they are only worth a rental. Actually, for the most part, they are pretty bad. Monkeyball (brother rented it) turned out to be a big disappointment after having a pretty good time with a monkeyball for the gamecube we played a while ago.

sales mean something, but not too much. Because the Wii is selling like hotcakes right now, and so are the crappy games people buy for it. Almost all of the Wii games out so far are what I consider a crappy game.

They can be good but they aren't good. Look at the Wii's lineup. You obviously are pro-Nintendo, but to any neutral, jaded gamer it's a bunch of crappy games with a few worth a rental. Also, it's sad that Nintendo has yet again failed to enter the world of simplified online play. Yay for friend codes and more crappy online.

[QUOTE="PotatoSandWitch"]That's actually pretty bad.

Actually, you can if you look hard enough and play it long enough. You've already given up and you're barely at the beginning. Give the game a chance. It gets better.

I dont think Wii will win. I think it will be close, but wont win. I think by the end of this war the big three will be so close (relativly) in sales that it wont matter who won anyways.

Except for PS3. Ps3 will be dead last.

I haven't come close to beating Oblivion yet and I kind of stopped playing that game a while ago, so before I started playing Zelda again I would have to start playing Oblivion again (it's better than Zelda :))

Great post, and I agree with your thoughts. It will sell the most consoles, but have a low attach rate for software, and less high quality games other than 1st party.

Well, it's all opinion anyway. I happen to think Oblivion sucks, but I'm not going to go out of my way to bash it. Do what you will. That's why this is a free country.
