Except its complete bs when it comes to shooters.
Mouse aiming >>>>> Wii aiming anyday
Same with anything that involves some sort of menu, or RTS games.

but we're talking about consoles here. so the general consensus is:
kb/m > Wiimote > standard controller
I can't believe how many people on here are referring to a xbox controller as "standard". Controllers are always evolving, to call any one controller standard (except maybe M&K, those haven't changed much in the past 25 years) is very short sighted.DaBrainz
would the word 'traditional' make you feel better?
No...
&%^* No...
For many things the wii-mote works just fine, but it's not precise enough for my tastes. That and anything involving lots of menu's (RPGs especially) would be a huge pain.KodiakGTS
There's a nunchuk with an analog stick on there for a reason buddy.
I cant stand the Wiimote, I prefer the standard controller.Vadoc81
That's too bad, because there is a good possibility that a wiimote-type of controller will be the standard next gen. Look at it this way...N64 sold FAR LESS than PS1, yet when Nintendo introduced analog and then the Rumble Pak, they both became the standard during the next gen. Wii is selling more than PS3 and 360, and yet...many people are saying Wiimote will not become the standard next gen.
Then the console gaming industry dies. A rumble pack and analog control weren't drastic changes. Despite having an analog stick there was still a D-Pad and rumble could still be switched on and off. However, changing the entire format of the controller is something that's strongly unlikely because clearly it's not universally accepted(just look at the responses in this thread). It's foolish to even think that the Wii-mote will become anything even resembling standard. Remember gimmicks never last for all that long.
Wiimote works well with EVERY genre except for fighting. It even works well with Mario Kart. You really think Microsoft and Sony will just upgrade graphics next gen, and still have the standard controller with tiny moderations? 360 has the best standard controller I've ever used, yet Microsoft is LOSING to Nintendo in the console war. Sony is losing to Nintendo in the console war. And they damn well know it is because a lot of people are buying Wii because of the Wiimote. Sony and Microsoft know they have to do something next gen to try to regain the top spot. It is just like what happened to Gamecube. Other than the small discs, the Gamecube was really no different than PS2 and Xbox, yet it didn't sell well at all. So, Nintendo had to do something drastic, and it is working. You think Sony and Microsoft aren't paying attention to this?
Sorry, but trying to pass of your subjective opinion as fact doesn't work. I for one, believe that the Wii-mote is worthless for every genre of game that I've used it for. Racing, fighting, FPS you name it. I'm positive that graphics and functionality will progress like it has every generation of console gaming. Their controllers will still remain fundamentally the same. That's mainly because they're tried and proven. While the Wii-mote is just one anomalous instance of something becoming popular. You know, a fad. Also, you're making the mistake of assuming the Wii-mote is responsible for the Wii's success. When it's in fact the price. The Wii started off as being vastly cheaper than the opposition. People tend to buy less expensive products. It's all about the concept of a bargain. This holds especially true for casuals which is ironically the Wii's primary constituency. Think about it. The Gamecube suffered from more than just smaller discs. It also suffered from far less functionality than it's competition. It couldn't even play DVD's. The lack of functionality and costing a similar amount to the competition made the Gamecude a rip-off. So yes Nintendo made a cheap gimmick and no wonder it's selling. It's cheap with a marketable gimmick. It's no cause for a strategy change. It's not like the 360 and PS3 are failing like the Gamecube did.
Nintendo has usually been the one to push controller innovations forward. Seriously, how much further can a standard controller go? I can't honestly see the 360 controller being improved upon. It is the best standard controller I've ever used. However, controllers using motion sensing tech can probably be improved. I think the standard controller should be replaced next gen. I think there is a way to make EVERY game genre work well with motion sensing. Even fighters.

Dear god, I hope not!

Yeah, Gamecube sold so well when it launched at $200 when PS2 and Xbox 360 were $300...oh wait! Bottom line is Gamecube was $100 cheaper than the competition. Then, like 2 years later, it went to $99 and even included a free game. It STILL didn't sell. Price means NOTHING if people really want something. Wii launched $50 cheaper than Xbox 360 core. Wii didn't even come with component cables...so add that to the price. Wii isn't as cheap as you seem to think it is. If price REALLY is the main factor, then please explain why GC flopped in sales when it was always much cheaper than Xbox and PS2.
no way. The wiimote os ok for casual games like wii sports, but not for more complicated games.
the wiimote is ok for casuals, but for everyone else it would be horrible.
NinjaMunkey01
umm have u played re4 on the wii? or super mario galaxy? okami? no more heroes? those are not "casual games" and the controls are absolutely fantastic with the wii mote. i've been playin video games since the nes days and i must say the wii mote is definitely my favorite controller
I, too, would just either stick to my current console(s), and play new games on PC. The current controller designs don't really need to be "upgraded" much. Sony had the right idea with the SIXAXIS/Dualshock 3, that being "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
0rin
then why did they make the sixaxis? its obviously broke since they will stop making it.

They needed an excuse for not including rumble. :P

I don't know how good your math is but there's more distance between $250 to $399 and $599 then $200 to $299. Not only is the Wii cheaper, it's vastly cheaper. The keyword is 'vastly'. The Gamecube didn't have enough distance price-wise but it also didn't market a reasonable gimmick. Surely, smaller discs are cool but it wasn't enough. When the Gamecube lowered the price and gave a free game it was already up the creek without a paddle. Therefore, that time was pretty much irrelevant. Lets not forget the Wii at least touts a decent amount of functionality that the Gamecube didn't have such as, online play and DVD playback. Anyone with a least a shoddy knowledge of economics knows that price is always a major reason why products sell. It's a main reason why many choose one product over another. Casuals look at consoles and see price first then assess whether or not the price is justified by the product. Many people avoided the Core 360 because it's widely known even to casuals as the 'tard' pack. Instead of coming with a HDD like the other 360 the core required a separate buy of a HDD or memory card, no free live subscription and etc. When those issues are taken into account the Core becomes more expensive than the premium. It's doesn't take a remotely hardcore gamer to figure that out. Also, lets not forget that the Wii isn't marketed as an HD console; therefore, component cables would only provide a marginal at best improvement in the display. In other words, they're worthless as far as the Wii is concerned. Lets recap, with no one wanting the Core 360 and the Wii at least providing enough functionality to justify it's rather low cost. It's no wonder the Wii is ahead. With other desirable products start at $150 more than the Wii.

I might be willing to give PC gaming a chance if this happens.
QFT.
Hell no, its the alternative to standard consol gaming. It works for Nintendo, but it doesn't belong on other consols.
I would love, JUST LOVE, for all these wiimote haters to tell me how an analog stick, 4 face buttons, a d-pad, two independent motion sensors, and an IR sensor can't handle any game.
Especially when it's adopted by MS and Sony next gen and to more buttons are added on to that.
 Maybe because people just don't like it?Especially when it's adopted by MS and Sony next gen and to more buttons are added on to that.

How can you not like a controller that's EXACTLY THE SAME as a standard pad, but with more features?

People have different opinions of it than you. How hard is that to understand? If they can find a much better layout than the current Wii remote, I'm all for it. But in its current form, I'd have to say no.
The Wiimote controls are a gimmick and are dumbed down. All video games would MEGA FAIL if the Wiimote became a standard controller.-Sphere-
never played it hu ?
did you have some kind of religion that doesn't allow you too touch the wii mote ?
why only choose 1 way too play games if you can have different types of controller ?
on the wii you can play games with wii mote, classic controller or cube pad ! does it hurts if you had the option ? i dont think so
it do nothing but frustrate people. wah its not reading what im doing oh#$$$ im deadblackice1983this is how you know if someone has never used a Wii remote
so many people are taking this as the current wiimote. Next gen, i'm guessing the motion sensing will be much more accurate.
And the wiimote is the first step(its a long way to go) in the journey to a fully interactive gaming experience, which i hope we all want.
at the very least the controller should be two different parts. that's so much more comfortable. you'll have your hands next to you sides instead of all cramped up in front of you. it's really more comfortable.Always-Honest
I can't help but wonder if all the Wiimote hating is pure fanboyism and Nintendo hatred. If Sony/Microsoft do use a Wiimote like controller next-gen, it will probably be praised beyond belief.BubbyJello
Yep. Especially since it will be shaped more like a standard pad (theough I'm guessing it will be in two halves) and have another 5 years of research and development on it.
Ive done two topic so far about how the wiimote can do everything a standard pad does that both went way over 100 posts. Not a single person in either of those topics could prove me wrong. I really don't want to have to go through it again, but the sheer ignorance of some people here is staggering.goblaa
I remember that thread. Too bad u didn't prove how it would have been better to ALL kinds of genres.
