I recall hearing Sony cut the manufacturing cost by 70%, so they can afford such a cut. Im not saying they will in this thread Im just hypthetically they do and I just want to know from gamers how will it help Sony?
Yet they're still making a loss regardless manufacturing costs being lower than selling price. They have cut other costs too however (16,000 laid off) so I agree, a $100 price drop is possible and probably happening not so much because they can but rather because they need to.

I couldn't care less but I laugh at cows who care about sales. Hypocrites, sales don't matter if ps3 was beating the 360 in sales I wouldn't care. I didn't care that the ps2 and the ps1 beat their competitors in sales and I won't care now..
I say the PS3 should go all the way and drop to $250. Why not? According to the analysts, it would costs around $252 minus shipping. It use to cost maybe around $840 if the analyst's predictions are correct. If they drop to $250, they would lose less money per PS3 than they originally did at launch, and yet probably get more sales because of the extreme drop in price. Not only would it be a pretty big gain against Microsoft (I doubt even M$ would undercut $250), it would start to threaten Wii. Provided Sony came up with the correct marketing approach, Sony can probably woo some "casual" players with such a price drop.

I really don't care to be honest. I already own one. Besides, we are heading into the 4th year of this gen, so it really doesn't matter. It isn't going to change the game at all except to give a few butt hurt fanboys a reason to brag.

Wait, wasn't the PS3 supposed to outsell the 360 right out of the gate. The simple fact that the 360 is still ahead in sales is not hilarious, but sad. Sony really messed up this gen, going from dominating the last 2 to last place this gen. You think what you want, but to me it's sad that Sony is in last, especially with all the great games that have come out in the last year, they should have sold more. Many gamers went elsewhere this gen and that is Sony's fault. Didn't Sony say that people would buy the system even if it had not games? Now they have games and they still sell less than the 360.
I fully expect PS3 to get a drastic increase in demand in the UK if it got the rumoured £85 price cut. Even better, would be the reinstating of BC.
Just from my experience, there are a lot of people holding off on PS3's because of price, and the lack of BC. If Sony were to release a £200 bundle with at least one high profile game, and BC reinstated, they'd sell the system in droves.

i don't think it's about the price anymore i mean the Elite costs 400 which is a lot and it's doing kinda okay it was about the price initially but now the PS3 is suffering because of lack of a good library of games like the 360, thus what the PS3 needs is more games AND a price drop
