Will any genre EVER challenge the Sports Genre in sales?

Wii Sports/FIFA/PES/Madden/NBA2k....all simply top charts for weeks every year....No game genre can touch them....Even the insanely marketed FPS genre cannot reach the monstrus sales of the sports genre....

Will this ever change? I mean which level of quality or marketing brainwash must a genre reach to even scrape the sales numbers that the sports genre pushes?

Sports games are for wannabe NBA/MLB/NFL/NHL players who couldn't make it. It gives them the closest thing to being on one of those teams. So, it's no wonder these games sell.

I got a few responses, but since they're very similiar (read every post before responding, guys) I'll just respond to the most recent one. Have I struck a nerve with some of you guys? Did my post tell somewhat of the truth? I know not making the team for a sports team could be huge downer for some of you, but get over it. You still got your sports games to tide you over your shortcomings. :P

To answer some of your questions. No, I wasn't picked on by jocks. I spent a lot of time in the gym in high school with some of those jocks. Why do you guys keep buying the same games over and over again every year. They make small updates to these games.

Face it. It's for a lot of people who aren't really good at sports. It's like for us, who can't go out slay monsters with swords so we play something like Fable or Final Fantasy. If I wanted to play something related to sports, I'd either go outside or go to the gym when it gets to cold out.

i dont know, but i would think that the 'shooter' genre outsells the sports genre. it would take alot of research though to prove it... i would much rather play videogames instead

He said GAME not GENRE, which upcoming or current sports game can say they will do that this gen, not a total of years and years of sales. If one game alone can beat an entire genre well then **** that is one impressive game.

If the FPS genre becomes any more saturated then it might have a chance, look at how much COD sells and it comes out every year.

Well Sports games tend to be the best, imo so i doubt it :)
