This is a good read from Chris Roberts, creator of Star Citizen.

Some select quotes:
"Star Citizen IS a PC game. It will NEVER be dumbed down for a lesser platform. We will NOT limit the input options or supported peripherals to the lowest common denominator. We will NOT pass on features and technology just because they will only run on some hardware configurations.
"As for the next gen consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, we have NO CURRENT PLANS, but my stance remains open and is consistent with the many interviews I’ve given - IF the platform holders (Sony & Microsoft) allow us to update the code and data without restrictions and odious time consuming QC procedures, IF they allow our community to openly interact with each other across platforms then I would CONSIDER supporting them...And even then it would only be contemplated as a port from the PC, not the other way around plus we would require a financial commitment by Sony to make it happen. If some of the coolest features or peripherals don’t make it because the PS4 can’t handle it we would never gimp the PC version. This is no different than the issues you face in PC development – we could be like Blizzard or Riot and focus on a game that works on the widest array of PC hardware – but that’s not the spirit of Star Citizen. We are shooting for the stars both virtually and technology wise.

"...The PC is the platform of Star Citizen. Anything else, if it happens at all, will just be after the fact."
I've played Star Citizen. A lot. If Chris Roberts stays true to his word, then Star Citizen simply will not be coming to PS4 or Xbox One, ever. Those platforms simply cannot handle it.
I think they will at least get close, but not on the scale of Star Citizen. Probably some linear corridor shooter or a game full of QTEs running at 800p and 20fps.
Certainly not this gen.
I agree with both of you .
What we're seeing today has only scratched the surface of this games potential. There's still a long way to go for Star Citizen, expect many changes and improvements over the next year and half or so. PBR alone made a massive difference to the visuals.
If Sony play their cards right and PS4 owners are very, very lucky they may eventually see a chopped up version of Squadron 42. Though the mining station alone, that the start of SQ42 is set around is now apparently 6km long! Star Citizen PU will never see the light of day on a PS4 or Xone.
PS5 or Xbox Two, who knows they might be capable of running the game in 6 or 7 years time but MS and Sony would need to accept Chris Roberts terms though. That would need to include things like no draconian Q&A, no patching fees, full access to the game on both platforms for regular updates and the real biggy is full cross platform support. There is only going to be one persistent universe for everyone.
probably not, but who cares right ? only 2% in this world will have these gfx and 0% will on this board!
ps4 and XposBone run the streets in SW and everywhere
Only 140 million people? Man, no wonder consoles dominate :P

I didn't know that gaming was a popularity contest.
Uh....seriously? One...you're in SW where it does matter. Two....popularity translates to sales in the real world which are important.
As for the OP....of course consoles will someday achieve those graphics. What a stupid question. When....I can't say? But unless they stop producing consoles they should achieve current graphics.
I picked Crysis 3 looks better because ARMA 3 looks better.
Make an "ARMA 3 looks better option"
You should rephase the question to "will it this gen" ? Then I'd say no.
If you ask will console games ever reach Star-Citizen's scale and complexity ? No.
Never. In fact many classic PC exclusives could never work on consoles.
First of all the order is 1920 x 800 with 4xmsaa which is more bandwidth demanding than 1080p itself. As for KZ, at least it has density in its horizon rather than an empty space of void with a few floating debris. Honestly if hermits are impressed by this game then I'll really just leave you to it, there is no discussion to be had here lol.

lol stop telling yourself that its just all empty space. Did you actually see the city the ship was landing on a least we actually can visit one unlike KZSF.

I agree with rest of your points but I don't think that ArmA 3 looks better . Just look at character details and that fancy stuff (and Not even close to being released) .
Can you step on everything you see in Star Citizen?
Not this gen no, the NeXT gen of consoles likely will. But then WHO knows what PC game we have in 5 years?
probably not, but who cares right ? only 2% in this world will have these gfx and 0% will on this board!

That's a different context, i was reffering to lglz's post about how no one cares about the game because only '2%' of the gamers in this world will be able to play it at max. It doesn't matter whether 1 guy or a 1000 guys manage to play it, because fact of the matter is that it exists for anyone with the capable hardware to play it. I can't really understand why its popularity has any connection to the subject of this thread, which is whether or not any console game will achieve its graphics.
It's a insecure, offtopic drive-by post rattling about its presumed future gamer base, because he couldn't come up with anything els to belittle Star Citizen.
Obviously, no
Star Citizen is probably closer, from a technical standpoint to what we'll see from ps5 and the next xbox.
Every next-gen game that looked pretty good so far, have had many compromises, usually poor draw distance and/or lod distance even though they are mostly running only on somewhat stable 30fps at 900p/1080p. Console games will obviously get better down the road but to even speculate that they will reach the same level as SC is preposterous.
So far Star Citizen doesn't look better than Crysis 3... I really don't get peoples ridiculously overhyped crap when it comes to this game.
And yes, I'm a backer.... but Crysis 3 looks better than it. not that I easily impressive with space games because theyre just in big open boxes .... but nothing screams "OMG THIS LOOK SBETTER THAN EVERY OTHER GAME" yet... "buh buh alpha" ... maybe.... all I get atm is a ridiculously poorly optimised current-gen cryengine game.
The only standout part is physics and animations...
It really could currently pass as a current-gen PC level game (or previous gen now) but a space sim which is rare.... what competition is there? X rebirth? the garbage project by a small team that didnt have millions thrown at them with no risk?
They used cryengine? so what? how can you look at star citizen and say it looks better than Crysis 3 even...
@aroxx_ab: Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but uhh.. yea. I think you can. There even talking about making planets landable.
Question for those who have played it. Can you just burn in one direction forever or do you hit an invisible wall? For instance that tiny spec of a planet you see in the distance. If I wanted to could I fly towards it without interruption?
Arena commander is a simulation so there are "hex shield" like walls that stop you leaving the area... but expect something similar in the persistant world... I think people are expecting too much for this game.... I dont think hes aiming for what people want at all. from what I gather Star Citizen will focus more on "hubs" much live eve ... and have mirrors of hubs so not everyone is in the same place unless matched up.
People's hype for this game has gone ridiculous... thye just don't see clearly.
"planet landing" .... bulls*it will it ever happen... at least not how people WANT... you wont go through the atmosphere, you will teleport to a probably very pointless surface just to land at a base to shop or conquer on foot in FPS mode.... granted... thats not bad... but again, people's expectations have gone way overboard for this game.
@MBirdy88: Well how about getting out of the ship whenever, where ever I want? Immersive stuff like that is what it'd take to personally spark my interest in this game. Because I don't like Space combat games.. I find them.. unrealistic, stale, monotonous and repetitive.
I like Evochron Mercenary.. kinda. But only because you CAN fly down through a planets atmosphere to its surface. You CAN fly from planet to planet without barriers, load/transition screens.
And that's what I want from this game. A space flight sim. Not a space fight sim. A game that's just about.. shooting.
Well you can eject and wait for rescue or just spawn in the universe when it comes... and you can share big ships without others, walk around them, pilot/use certain turrets ect... but atm its all talk from the devs. arena commander is just like abattleground in an MMO... or a multiplayer fps match.... this whole module is just about the combat... so we dont have much to go on.
Not enough detail to answer that question... though the First Person shooter section of the game is going to be revealed in august (e.g you can board enemy big vessels ect ... or probably planet surface combat).
Its going to have trading ect as well... but like I said, at the moment its all talk and still very early developement...
I honestly dont think you will see flying through the atmosphere.... I would love it... but its not going to happen. This game is pretty much eve meets freelancer meets dark souls (in terms of online player interaction the latter)... its going to be combat/trade heavy.
That being said, given that its a persistant world game... I imagine it will last years and they will add stuff. but having seemless planet traveling on cry engine? not possible imo...
Who cares if consoles aren't up to par with PC when it comes to games like Star Citizen? Will consoles even have anything close to Star Citizen in terms of gameplay? Let's at least wait until that day before we bemoan the graphic disparity.
First of all the order is 1920 x 800 with 4xmsaa which is more bandwidth demanding than 1080p itself.
nah we've had enough of ridiculous comments like that.
the ps4's power is a constant, they'll try use it all up to produce the best looking visuals whether it's at 1920x1080, or a lesser resolution like 1920x800.
