WILL EPIC Put PS3 On the Map Like they Did with the 360?!

Lets face it, Epic is the one that put 360 on the map and made it popular with Gears of war. The question is, can Epic pull it off yet again but this time with the PS3 and Unreal Tournament 3. My guess is Yes!! Things will just get better from here and if Unreal tournament is cross platform play and with Keboard/mouse support. Unreal will be the "Gears" for the PS3 and sell LOTS of systems quote me!!

I think its more likely Halo 3 will overshadow UT3. Hate it or love it, the hype, marketing and presales do not lie.

Epic also has a secret exclusive they're making for PS3, that they claim is on the same tier as Gears of War in terms of ambitiousness and awesome. We shall see.Timstuff

Sony doesn't need one franchise to sell systems..

Thats what people don't understand.

Who cares about attach rate, Sony has alot of franchises that sell systems. Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy all sell systems.

UT3 will suck for consoles.

It's too fast paced for analog controls and was designed w/ a mouse and keyboard in mind.

Gears worked b/c it was designed for a console, not the other way around.

Umm I own a PC "exclusively", save a PS2,and I completely disagree with this. Even though I will play UT3 a year+ before Halo 3, it doesn't matter because Halo 3 will sell more, and anyone denying this should never invest in stocks as you aren't objective enough. UT3 will be a success though, don't get me wrong:)

Disclaimer, IMO Valve>Epic so I may be slightly biased on the PC front.

The 360 was already on the map before Gears of War came along. Unreal Tournament has never been a genre defining game so I don't see how it will do anything for the PS3 other than to give its game-starved owners a shooter worth playing.MrEpyx

nope Gears was a MEGa mega hit that really put the 360 on the map.

that game is entwined with the 360 brand now as much as metal gear solid is for the playstation. i think of gears i think maaaaaaaaaad world and the 360 logo.

in london, there was a newspaper that i remember buyingand on each frickin page there was a 360 advert and most of them had the gears insignia on it.

A PC that can out preform a PS3 is not the mythical object you are trying to make it out to be...My PC can and it almost 2 years old.

Funny... cuz 360 already set itself apart within its first year without Gears. Things like the revolutionary dashboard was the first seen on a console, achievements, massive reworking of Xbox Live, media streaming. Without any competition, there was plenty of buzz with 360. Gamewise, graphics showcases like Oblivion and Fight Nights Round 3 and GRAW were out within 6 months from console launch.

What Gears did for 360 was provide a blockbuster title in time for the 06 holiday.

UT3 will be great, but I don't think it'll have the same impact Gears of War did. Gears had a whole year of exclusivity on the 360.

there wasn't a superior version of gears on a competing platform. it was an exclusive. the better version of ut3 will be on windows. the ps3 dosn't have an exclusive. the inferior version of ut3 will be going head to head with an exclusive 360 mega hit, halo3. ut3 will be overshadowed, even the superior windows version. look at the gamespot home page. at the bottom they rank games based on current intrest. ut3 isn't on the top ten list. go to the ps3 page and click on u in the games search area. then click on ut3. look on the left side of the page. the ps3 version of ut3 is currently ranked #667 and falling. the pc version is ranked 323. halo3 is ranked #3, behind only the 2 microsoft exclusive versions of bioshock. there is nothing that can help sony. they "just waited" too long, and now the flood of AAA 360 titles are starting to flood the market.

It's just a rumour....apparently Sony is also going to pay Epic games a lot of money to make the Unreal 3.0 engine work as well on the ps3 as it does on the 360( since PS is harder to program, the engine doesn't work too good on it). It is all rumours though. Even if it does happen I would not count on a PS exclusive, they will probably come out with one for the PC and Unreal 3 is coming out for the 360 eventually, so it is really not a console exclusive to sony.
