If there's a crash, gaming will still survive. The Wii and DS are pretty much made to prevent/withstand a crash like the one before the NES. In fact, the Wii pretty much is a NES 2.0. EA Sports seems to be turning itself into the right direction, as well.

It could it could not. All depends on outside factors really. The economy is the biggest factor bit at the same time its really immortal, for at some time it will come back stronger then ever before if it does die.

No, I don't think so. But what would really kill the gaming industry is if all three companies were to go full DD next gen. That's right, you'll be looking at the repeat of the video game crash of '83 & '84 all over again.

Why there would still be competition, multiplats would be competitivly price between the consoles.

But the thing is, is that a lot of people aren't ready for full DD yet, not to mention that not everyone has internet & that there hasn't been highly super-duper speed for the internet as of now.

Majority of people have internet, but not all have high speed, so it will be a few years till it takes off, but DD is the future of gaming. It's already the present way to get movies and music.

General industry stupidity has already caused a decline, the economy will just turn it into a full-blown crash much quicker than mere idiocy could.

I have seen alot change in the video game industry over the past 20 years, there's still some alright games but they're all still casual first person shooters no hardcore twitch shooters anymore , but i really do think the quality of games has dropped these days.

in first person shooters today you cant even tell who really is a noob right off the bat or a good player because the character movement has no learning curve takes no skills to move around like quake or unreal no practice.

in quake and unreal on pc if you see a person who isnt using strafe jumping or dodge jumping to a great extent than they are more than likely a noob, who the hell just runs around normal in quake or unreal?
