Will God of War (2018) be the best in the franchise?

It has the potential to be the best. I like the new direction they are taking.

They are making Kratos less of a one dimensional character which I think is good. I also like the RPG elements they are adding and how they are adding more meat to the combat system. It should be a great game.

God of war, classic hack n slash brutality. I gotta pass on the new one, I hate dark souls and I'm not a fan of slower third person rpg games. I'm sure the RPG crowd loves the new changes.

No I don’t think so. I haven’t really seen anything that has rekindled my interest in the franchise in this new game myself. My favourite of the series was probably God of War 3.

I love GoW its one of my favorite franchises of all time. But lots of things havent aged well. The fixed camera angles, lack of impact on hits and the invisible walls are not something that would work today. This reminds me alot of RE4. RE is also one of my favorite franchises but it needed something to keep it relevant and RE4 did that. I think this will do the same for GoW.

Voted no only because it has reputation to live up to. It not being like previous GoW games already works against it, plus I have little faith in GoW that emphasizes narrative.

Eh, I don’t think so. GOW was a series that was about as over the top you could get, brutal, nudity, easy to pick up and play, but challenging if you changed the setting. (It was entertaining like watching wrestling in the attitude era was entertaining, just a good time)

It was awesome 13 years ago when it came out, and had some great sequels.

The footage I’ve seen looks just ok, I absolutely hate the tag along kid thing and that kid talking over every damn thing you do.

I hope it still appeals to people that love the series and not this new everything’s gotta be like dark souls crowd.

TLDR: it’s got some big shoes to fill in my opinion, but I hope it’s good.

At least previews i've seen, critics love the kid. They say it adds an extra layer to gameplay and story. I think the story will end up being emotional, even if predictable. This game might really surprise.

I personally believe this will be the best God of War game yet. I love the new direction Santa Monica is taking here, going with Norse Mythology was a smart move, Greek was getting stale, giving Kratos a good personality and making him calmer but still has the brutality inside him is what I'm so glad to see here. I personally didn't like how Kratos was nothing but a raging guy from the previous games. So yeah, I'm hype because I wanna know more about Norse Mythology since I already play games like Hellblade which cover most of Norse stuff anyways. Voted: God of War 2018.

To be fair, games like Last of Us & Bioshock: Infinite had A.I partners and nobody didn't even say about babysitter simulation now did it? Kratos was already a Dad since God of War started on PS2 and not only that, Kratos in GoW3 had a A.I partner near the end of the game and even then, nobody didn't complain about that.

I really don't see what's the big deal now Kratos having an A.I partner again?

I think so. The combat looks less loose and disconnected - there's an article up on GS right now about it that does a better job than I could summarizing my issues with combat in the earlier games

As long as 30fps stays locked on a console exclusive, I can live with that and since I have no way of playing this game on PC, I really can't bitch about it but to play it on a lock down console. That's just the way it is :(

Never owned a playstation until the ps4. N64, gamecube, wii, 360, wii u, ps4 are the only consoles I have owned lol

I don't think so. It looks nice, but I'm not that crazy at all with the game whatsoever, despite the changes. Enjoyed GOW 1-2, but never bothered with 3 or Ascension and the spinoffs. At that point it was GOW fatigue.

I might (or might not) pick up GOW3 at some point to see where the series left off.

Based on the vastly improved character of Kratos and, in my opinion, a much more interesting setting in Norse mythology, Absolutely.

I'll just have to see what the gameplay is like.

God of War stood out from the other Sony exclusive IP's as one of the few that continued to focus on gameplay over been cinematic. It was also gory and over the top for the sake of been gory and over the top, that's what made the series fun.

This new one looks like a hollow shell, they've tried to copy the formals set out by Uncharted and The Last of Us, but in the process have removed the traits that made God of War what it was. They could replace Kratos in this game with grump old guy who runs the corner shop down the street from me and it'd be no different.

Looks awesome so far. The soundtrack sounds awesome from what I've heard. Day 1 buy for me!

It's such a departure from the series that it will be hard to compare directly to the old games. I think it will be great, but many series fans will hate it for being so much slower. What's up in the air is if it will gain enough new fans to offset the loss of the old.

lol, and here is the reason why video games sucked compared to the NES-PS2 era.

Its seems games today are judge mostly on story/graphics/fps/characters or other non gameplay functions.

A game like Tetris would probably get a 5/10 if reviewed today despite having strong gameplay but lacks story.

I'm sure all the young people who believe all games need to be extremely scripted over the shoulder walk and talk movie games will think so.

I've no intention of babysitting some snot faced brat.

When I play GoW I want to be a god of war, an unstoppable juggernaut of destruction. Not a babysitter.

GoW 2 is still the best. Great action, great puzzles.
