Ok bare with me, Mass Effect has some great interactive cut scenes and some exelent dialog/ Cienmatic feel and stunning moments. So much so that my Dad actually watched me play it for an hour or so and said he "Really enjoyed that" and expressed a desire to see what else happened in the sorty and some background.

Cinematic gaming is batted about allot these days but what i think makes ME so good is that it isn't just cut scenes, you are choosing dialog but it still feels natural. Not sterile like hearing the one side of a Fallout 3 conversation you are involved in a well shot scene (the camera angles and cinematography in the game can be spectacualr). This is good for the player but i alos very involving even if you are not just to see what the person will choose and how they will hanel it.

This has been ramped up about 12 notches in ME2 and that is why i think this may be the best game to watch unfold yet, just watching the brief assasin cut scene was pretty special.

I think a game like Uncharted 2 would be more watchable. I never finished the first ME (will one of these days) but from what i've played theres a bit of drag and down time visiting galaxies which I personally wouldnt like to watch lol

true adventure games that is. I've done this (group gaming with one person playing for the last 10 years). Point and Click Adventure and horror games.

A game like Mass Effect...no. I'd want to make my own decisions in the dialogue.

Actually, you have a very good point. A friend of mine watched ALOT of Mass Effect when I was playing it, and at the time he didnt have a 360. He got into it so much, he would ask me if he had missed anything, and to fill him in on what happened, etc. etc.

i agree. but i did have an old roommate that used to watch me play games all the time. seriously, he'd start getting into the story. pretty funny, actually. i think he enjoyed RE1 and 2 more than i did.

I find arcade-styIe games, be they fighters, shooters, shmups, rhythm, etc. much better to watch than RPG's due to their quicker-paced and simplistic nature. No matter when you start watching someone play an arcade game, you can pretty much figure out what you need to know in three seconds and start cheering for them or rag on them whenever they screw up.

Something like say, Metal Gear Solid, or anything else story-driven on the other hand, you'll have to watch from beginning to end or you'll be lost in some segments.

I hated the dialogue choices in ME, they are a good idea but did they need them for everything, "So what do you say? You want some ice cream?" "Yes/No/I'll murder your family!" Seriously though they put way too many in, fair enough choosing them for major things but when the conversation stops every 20 seconds to let you choose from a lot of options that are basically the same it does get irritating. And I know they are used to judge how good or evil you are but they could easily have still done that with less of them...

I could not stand to watch someone else playing it, myself. As I would be far too busy tackling them to the ground, trying to pry the controller out of their hands so I could play instead.

Do read the thread title again. This has nothing to do with your enjoyment as the player while someone is around watching. It has to do with your enjoyment as the watcher watching someone else play. ;)

As long as the player isn't able to do whatever you told them the instant you barked a command, you can blame them for not following your orders quickly enough.

My point was that people who don't necessarly want to play the game or can't can enjoy the cinematic stlye, another good watching game is Crysis. I've had a small crowd of people drooling over that game and it's action, awesome game just to stare at. My sister couldn't watch me play STALKER, she gets really nervey with horror things and i had the 5.1 on full, thats a game really for alone time, a game between you and the darkened room, not really a watchers game but a STALKERs game :P

point of it was that you are the character and you make every choice. Might not be your type of game?

Yeah probably not my type of game, I get the whole being the character (that IS the point of an RPG after all) but I just thought they went a bit extreme with it.

Nah, that'd be Heavy Rain.

ME2 still has enough game to sink your teeth into, while also offering what looks to be an amazing sci-fi tale, so I'd like to experience both.
