they cant keep it the main ip forever....

Well this is a little vague to be honest. From the title of this thread to your OP.
And I think the idea "replacing" Halo as their "main IP" is also a little subjective. But I happen to feel that Halo won't ever go away. There's no reason to unless it stops being successful, which isn't likely. But of course I'd have to think that newer IPs are on their way. And given how quite they've been for the last year or two on the 360, I'd imagine they are working on stuff for the next Xbox console. It should be an exciting time
why replace the greatest franchise ever? keep it going make millions, sell millions, fans happy, sony fanboys jealous cause they never had a franchise even nearly as good is all this boils down to, shut the fvck up and go play/watch mgs4 or uncharted and leave halo out yo stankin ass mouth ok

[...] or a odst 3rd person shooter or something. [...]mems_1224Or a proper ODST game where you play out missions on numerous planets from initial drop to recovery in a kind of Ghost Recon kind of way. But first person (I've never enjoyed a TPS as much as a FPS). When I first started ODST today, I was fully expecting to gain control of the drop pod... but was disappointed it was all automatic. They spent all that space in the manual playing up the "Helljumpers" and them being all badass mother f*ckers and flying manually... then the drop lasts 15 seconds. -_- But other than that, so far it's my most enjoyed Halo game. The atmosphere at night is to die for. And dat music!
If they need to replace a series its Gears of War. Decent mechanics, terrible terrible characters. Meatheaded idiots.
The problem with Halo is there simply isn't enough of it. Halo Wars and Halo ODST were both good. I am not a fan of RTS so Halo Wars was not my thing but most people I know like it. I am wanting to try it again. There is a lot they could do with it if they did it right. Tatical shooter, Space Combat, A Starhawk type game but make the single player actually good.
With a franchise that popular they need to milk it. Look at Mario and Sonic? We get 4 Mario games a year.
MS will replace Halo once Nintendo replaces Mario.

but Mario has no time limit, it doesn't follows anything. Nintendo just makes Mario after Mario just like Square with FF but Halo actually follows a story. I don't think they'd be able to keep pulling off stories out of their arse for 25 more years. Sooner or later Halo will need to be rebooted or something.

I think eventually they could pull a zelda. There is always a man in a green space suit who save the universe but after they end the current trilogy each time it could bea different spartan? Idk exactly what master cheif is to be honest I just play the games and ignre most of the cut secens since I missed the first two games.but Mario has no time limit, it doesn't follows anything. They have an entire galaxy of worlds to choose from. They have several established Covenant races that could be given back-stories. They have any number of types of combat associated with space, orbital, atmospheric and surface warfare. Reach was an entire campaign based around a single novel. There are 9 novels other than Fall of Reach. That is a ton of media to pull from.
i also wish they would improve the main characters and give them more personality. masterchief is kinda ok, hes a bad ass super soldier with some good one liners. in ODST though, the rookie never talked and in reach noble 6 barely said anything.mems_1224I'm totally satisfied with the Chief/Rookie/Noble Six "avatar" type character. What they need to do is properly develop the non-player characters better. Give them more depth and a little less camp/cliche. I also really wish there were no unlocks for armor pieces. Complete aesthetic customization is something I'd like from the beginning, and would rather play the game for the game, than to climb up a ladder of points just to unlock a shoulder guard I really want. There is such a plethora of online content in Halo games, it makes me wonder why they ever integrated the point/unlock system. It distracts from the game at hand. Edit: Also, quick question. Is the Halo 3 MP disc that comes with ODST compatible with people playing online with Halo 3?
Halo will never be replaced.MercenaryMafiaSomeone should of told bungie before they even made halo quake cant be replaced.
It seems like Halo has created itself a nice little universe if you actually follow the lore, so I doubt they will replace it, I can just see them expanding on it. Hopefully in the future they will can bring a new twist to on the universe and spice up the gameplay. My only problems with Halo is that its generic as hell when it comes to the FPS department and Master Chief is one of the most boring characters in gaming at the moment.OhJayDubyasee you was doing ok, till you said generic, do you realize how man games stole from halo?????????? maybe thats why it may seem generic to you if you dont know much about halo, but for those of us that do we know it far from generic it DEFINED fps on consoles

they cant keep it the main ip forever....

Msoft will replace Halo as soon as Nintendo replaces Mario

I grew up with tactical FPS's like Delta Force, SWAT, Rainbow Six and others, so to me I find the Halo format very generic compared to those. Halo to me is more of a pick up and play Run and Gun where even the most careless of idiot can be effective due to the amount of hand holding.

And you should try it on something higher than Normal. Legendary is just stupid, but Heroic gives a very good challenge. Not sure what "hand-holding" you are talking about, other than perhaps pointing the player in the right direction if they can't navigate largely linear levels.

Not sure what "hand-holding" you are talking about, other than perhaps pointing the player in the right direction if they can't navigate largely linear levels. Hand holding to me is the regenerative health and the linear level design that make is hard to die or get lost, I prefer a FPS where you can get lost at any moment if you don't pay attention or die because you made a stupid move and didn't pick your shot or just ran around like a idiot. Regenerative health is good for Multiplayer as it allows the flow of the match to keep to a fast pace but I hate that it is forced in Singleplayer these days. I can understand why Halo would have such a feature due to its Sci-Fi setting and where such technology would be believable but it still doesn't emulate the feeling of panic if you are hurt and don't have a Med-Pack at hand.
halo is the future... babies that is engineered in a lab that is trained all their life then they put on a 2000 pound suit that is a moving tank to fight earths biggest threat. Of course that's just my opinion... :)What's Halo?

[QUOTE="TheGuardian03"]They can reboot it.Sony keeps making GT and nintendo keeps making Zelda and Mario and pokemon, why can't MS keep Halo? IAmNot_fun
But it's biggest charm is the gameplay since it's a game, not a movie or a book. As long as the gameplay is good, I doubt many gamers will be calling for it to go away.

In a game like Halo? Where story and lore is very important? Sure gameplay is probably the most important, but many Halo fans I'm sure are just as mesmerized with its lore as they are with its gameplay. And in a franchise where its lore is so concrete, I don't know if a reboot is even possible. EDIT: well I guess Halo 4 is a reboot, but I think they are stretching too far already. But who knows, it may change my mind. But it's biggest charm is the gameplay since it's a game, not a movie or a book.
