The only shooter I can see Ninty doing is Metroid Prime, other than than, the closest you'll get on a preview of a violent Nintendo game is on April Fools.

I have always been referiing to the technical side and ONLY the technical side. From a technical side it is still good. Can you understand that?

Elebits had simple textures and geometry simply because the Wii couldn't handle anything more while processing the physics, the proof is in the framerate. Also, read up on what Cell Shading is as Elebits does not have a cell shaded look. Don't confuse simple textures with cell shading. The Wind Waker, Jet Set Radio, and Killer 7 are prime examples of that.

Even if Elebits was made on a Gamecube, it doesn't explain the framerate drops on the Wii. I don't think the programmers would purposefully make the game have a lackluster framerate. That would be like designing a game based on old computer hardware and having it run "just okay" and then having the game run the same on newer hardware, it doesn't make sense. If Elebits has trouble on the Wii, I can't imagine what it was running like on the Gamecube.

Half Life 2 on the Wii could be done, but it realy wouldn't look all that better from the Xbox version. The Wii is more powerful then the Xbox but not by much. First of all the GPU in the Xbox is a little bit more powerful then the Wii's and does support shaders (something which Half Life 2 does use). The Wii version would probably have slightly better textures but nothing more. Want to know why? The Wii would have to run the game at a higher resolution (for widescreen) and also support 480p output. Both of these stress the GPU further thus negating any little extra horsepower the Wii offers over the Xbox.

The Wii version won't be pretty and will most likely have framerate problems much like the Xbox version, and overall just wouldn't be worth playing unless you wanted to play the game with the Wii-mote. Valve is better off making a new game on the Wii rather then porting a game that would get lackluster results due to dated hardware.

You lace your arguments with unsupported assumptions, and when you do get more specific (such as the Wii's GPU) you veer off into inaccuracies (the Wii's GPU supports shaders, but they're fixed shaders as opposed to the shaders on the Xbox, meaning they're trickier to use by by no means less capable). I could go more in depth, but then we'd be rehasing old arguments as you grow more and more beligerent. And that would just be a waste of all of our times. this....hell...I'd even go as far as saying brawl (at times, spear pillar, castle siege etc) looks better than farcry for the xbox.

all of gamespots FC:I shots look like that. well not quite that bad, but he didn't have to go looking for those pictures they were right at the begining of GSs screenshots.

Thanks for insulting me, that's what people usually refer to when they can't debate back ;) I can see you have no counter argument for just about everything I wrote in my last post, you say it's not worth replying to but I think it's more along the lines is that you really can't. You accuse me of assumptions but the same can be said for you.

Many devs have said that the Xbox has a better and more powerful GPU and while the Wii does support shaders it would have to be talior made and done through software. Unless they're assuming too, right?

I have a background in computer programming and have a great deal of knowledge of computer hardware. I have a good idea of what to expect from a Wii version of Half Life 2, and it's not much better then the Xbox version. Of course you'll think otherwise.

There is Metroid Prime 3, Red Steel, Medal of Honour heroes 2 for Wii. Also Brothers in Arms soon to be released.

I don't want Nintendo to concentrate too much on fps. I dislike the shooter genre in general. Its usually played by insecure teenagers with bad-ass macho attitude.

I'm a Phoenix Wright fan and even though this thread is pretty pointless, i tend to agree with him because of its style. You see ? I'm a PS3 fanboy and i like a company that style comes first and games comes last !

I never really liked FCI so I don't recall but referring to SMG textures as crisp and detailed is going over board. Its a nice looking game but crisp and detailed defiantly does not spring to mind.

I still think the textures are better in SMG. The water is a tossup having seen those new screens. But in any case, the graphics in FCI is not better. You really can't compare a shooter to a platformer anyway so.... :|

SMG textures and FCI textures are not really comparable. SMG textures are very simplistic while FCI is going for a greater sense of realism.

In 07/08 a game running in 480p, well, the texture work is just not very impressive for SMG. Although the game does look really nice.

The Far Cry textures had no depth to them.

Well, you just provided your own answer: Half-Life 2 for the Xbox, a game that got an 8.3 (Great) score here at GS and has a 9.0 GameRankings average, making it a top notch game. Oh wow. Considering the game out 4 years ago I'm not surprised the reviewer gave it a "great" score with those graphics. Now port the game to Wii with slightly enhanced graphics and it won't look so spectacular. Oddly enough, something you seemed to avoid was the fact that HL2 on PC still has great graphics and physics and could hold it's own against Gears of War, easily. Perhaps if Wii could perform graphics to the PC versions level, I'd give up and lick your foot. Thankfully for me that isn't going to happen, now or ever.

Nice one though, grasping at straws there; trying to make me appear stupid with those pathetic last remarks.

I love the Wii for SMG, bowling,pool ect ect...But, I have tried playing Medal of Honor 2 on it and look like someone is hitting me with a tack hammer the whole time while im blindfolded and spun in circles on my head.

Technically we will never see a Wii game that looks better than HL2 4 years ago without HDR, let alone with the new effects.

The Wii hardware and remote are more trouble than they are worth for FPS games.

gave up on the Wii for fun games. 3rd party arent ambitious about the Wii and they dont give a crap. Even Nintendo is not making efforts. SSBB was good but its online sucks bad. Gonna get a 360 real soon.

Having played both I can safely say that SMG destroys it graphically.

Dont pretend. tHE REAL GAME İS smooth sharp uses complex textures unlike SMG which uses simplistic textures , has more polys in its enviroments and has much better water effects. İ have beaten both games as well.

You have to take into account the whole package Brawl has small levels looked at from side on with graphics that dont really require much work by the system ( great style over technical realism), HL2 has some large open areas with multiple AI controlled units partially destructable enviroments, great physics and a first person perspective with good technical visuals. Its the sum of all that which makes the game what it is. Your processor has to calculate everything that is going on and your graphics card render it (simplified i know) all within a timeframe that allows for smooth gameplay, this is the reason that it's hard to port PC centric games to consoles and get a similar experience, the reason why ther is a Farcry instincts on Xbox and not a Farcry, the reason why the xbox version of HL2 looks terible and the reason there wont be Crysis on the xbox360/ps3 in the way it is on PC.

I don't think the Wiis audience would support shooters like the ones on PC 360 and PS3f50p90

I disagree. if anything they are starved for a good shooter. how else does Red Steel break a million? :)

Honestly whats taking devs so long to develope a complete well rounded FPS game for Wii? Metroid Prime 3 is great but its a single player adventure. MOH:H2 is all right but very average, plus were is the off line 4 person multiplayer?

Its hard for me to imagine Nintendo doing a 1st party shooter thats not Metroid or link's crossbow training. At the same time, I doubt they are prohibiting 3rd party developers from making FPS games. Blame the developers.Senor_Kami


seriously, why people act as if nintendo never made a first person shooter before? if nintendo actually made a sequal to this with a bigger and better buget, you could actually get a way better experience out of this game using the wiimote.

Well, there's no reason that they can't come out with something sort of like Bioshock. A shooter can have adventure elements, even if it's not a full-blown adventure like Metroid Prime. Besides, I thought they were working on a shooter, "Disaster".

Disaster isn't really classified in a Genre yet some screens show that it is first person other screens show it is third person, so you probably have the ability to change your perspective. Also Nintendo needs to make a sequal to geist with a bigger budget and make it more polished Retro could probably do it since they have experiance with Shooters but I would like them to make a different genre.
